Palm Oil vs. Rainforests: A Tragedy in the Making

    in Environment

Nicolas Alexandre, senior at the University of Arizona, President of the Palm Oil Awareness Initiative

Kim Kelly, Ph.D. candidate in Anthropology the University of Arizona, Co-Founder and advisor/member of Palm Oil Awareness Initiative

Stacey Tecot, Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of Arizona, Co-Founder and Academic Advisor of Palm Oil Awareness Initiative

Did you know that palm oil is the MOST consumed edible oil today? And that because of its versatility, the demand worldwide has tripled over the last few decades. Palm oil is cheap and often substituted for cocoa butter and is semi-solid at room temperature. I like to think of it as one of those ingredients I call “what lies beneath.” It’s in lots of chocolate, frying oil, baked goods, breakfast cereals, cosmetics, personal care and cleaning products. Palm oil is in such demand that much of Southeast Asia, especially Borneo and Sumatra, have grown massive plantations of this crop – all at the very tragic expense of the rainforests and their inhabitants. Because of my deep love and respect for the rainforests, this show will be a tough one for me. But trust me when I say it will be one well worth listening to and I am ready for the challenge. This show sponsored by The University of Arizona.

LivingEden: Rainforests supporting our spirit and health

    in Spirituality

"It is beginning to dawn on us at this perilous moment that moving to a new level of consciousness is NOT an optional extra but an imperative if we are to survive as a species and safeguard the life of our planet." Dream of the Cosmos by Anne Baring

LivingEden and other shows like it are showing us the way as each step co-creates Eden on earth.  This week we will be exploring the spirituality of the rainforests.  One book I discovered, " Wisdom From the Rainforest", is an account of a rainforest forest society, the Teduray, written by an Episcopal priest who became a social anthropologist after a stint of missionary work in the Phillipines. The exploration raises important questions about the fundamental principals of how WE live. The Teduray are a nonviolent society, and to learn how different their underlying guiding principles are from our own is both interesting and humbling. One reader commented, " I never saw a better manual for how to live this way than Wisdom from a Rain Forest."  I found that aboriginal societies and tribes living in the rainforests all have common guiding principles living a spirituality of non-competition, peace, cooperation,  egalitarian, and truly democratic. They also live in harmony with the earth.

Food, timber, raw materials, grazing and gardening land, and medicines are all products of the rainforests which support our life on the planet and rainforests create great biodiversity necessary for us and our planet to survive. We'll explore the spiritual connection with all of these on the show.  Please find pictures of the rainforests to look at while on the show.  Listen to rainforest CD's. We love you so please, email questions, suggestions, experiences to sharonwalker143@gmail.com

He wrote a powerfully moving hardcover book that is filled with stunning photography about his trip across America on horseback in an attempt to bring attention to preserving the rainforest, titled: The Long Ride. “Our ecosystem is amazingly resilient. Given a chance, it will come back strong and vibrant… ecological restoration is a conscious attempt to compensate for our negative influence on the system but we can undo that influence only when we understand it…” ~ Lucian Sparato. * Find today’s featured guest @: http://TheLongRide.com …& you can find the Brummets @ http://Brummet.ca

    Inside Visual Artist: Russell Heath

    in Art

If you’re not living life full out, Russell Heath wants a talk with you. It’s his mission to get people off the sidelines and into the action. He’s been in the thick of the action since he was a kid—in his teens he hitchhiked to Alaska and lived in a cabin on the banks of the Tanana River; in his twenties, he lived in Italy, crossed the Sahara and the jungles and savannas of Africa; in his thirties, he sailed around the world (alone); in his forties, he wrote novels no one would publish; and in his fifties he bicycled the spine of the Rockies from Alaska to Mexico. He’s worked on the Alaska Pipeline, as an environmental lobbyist in the Alaska Legislature, and run a storied environmental organization fighting (successfully) to protect Alaska’s rainforests. Several years ago, he moved to New York City to dig deep into leadership development and coaching. He now coaches business and non-profit leaders as well as people who want to live rich, zesty, kick-*** lives.

    Franny Armstrong, the Paranovel Girl

    in Writing

Franny Armstrong is a mother of three and a grandmother of four. Her husband supports her imagination and has the patience of a saint. She’s been writing since she was a child, creating plays to act out in front of the neighborhood children. She charged them five cents admission to join her in the family garage for the play.

Since 2002, after a serious breakdown, Franny had to express herself on the computer since she couldn’t speak, everything coming out gibberish at that time. She’s slowly healed to the point that she can function fairly well. Writing was the best medicine for her and still is.

Franny, an author of paranormal romance stories, also loves to write about rainforests and Caribbean islands rather than about cities. Her characters are well rounded and share her wacky sense of humor.

The Prayer Project with Master Healer, Paramahansa Jagadish

    in Spirituality

Paramahansa Jagadish, the globally renowned master healer, teacher and spiritual leader, is rallying YOU and your listeners--and the rest of the world--to step forward with nine minutes of beautiful and joyful prayer each day to lead the planet into a time of transformation. Just pray nine minutes a day--3 minutes 3 times for peace! (3x3!)

We have bartered away our future for little gain by destroying the rainforests, oceans, wilderness, plant and animal species, and we have enabled dramatic climate change with no solution in sight. Furthermore, whether it's Sudan, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Syria--or anywhere else in the world--the darkness of unrest and injustice continue...

The need is for good people with good intentions to bring environmental balance and peace back to our world--to reignite the light. Thus, The Prayer Project has been born.

To facilitate The Prayer Project movement, Parmahansa Jagadish has created a timeless book. The Prayer Project Book is unique--a tool box of prayer!--which illuminates the power of prayer, the ways to spread the blessing of prayer, the impact prayer can have on you personally, and a brief perspective of how the world's predominant religions and cultures each approach prayer.

Multiple prayers are presented from the faiths of Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Judaism, Hawaiian spirituality, Christianity, Islam, Sufism and Native American, capped by the individual prayers from historic figures, leaders and peace-lovers.

LivingEden: More perspecitive and mind expansion on being alchemists

    in Spirituality

    Blessings everyone,

Do you ever think of yourselves as alchemists???  Is that an ingredient of LivingEden???  What do you think???  What is an alchemist???  Walking the pilgrimage of the rainforests brought up the essence of alchemy for me along the way.  I also remembered the movie "The Way" which is a pilgrimage of the El Camino.  I highly recommend you watch either for the first time or again.  Watch it as if YOU are the one walking it with the actors/actresses.  Feel what happens to them, be there, taste what they eat, experience what they experience, smell what they are smelling and hear what they are hearing.  Then again take a walk through the rainforest the same way and meet the people who live there in peace, abundance, non-competition, wise, in communion with nature and the animals.  Then think of alchemy, what is it and how does it pertain to LivingEden.  Please send in needs to sharonwalker143@gmail.com and we will be alchemists for each other and discover what happens. We will also pick a card for someone who calls in live while we are on the show. (We will not do the card on the show but will need your information to get in touch with you afterwards.)

Check out my website for more support www.iamgoddessiam.com.  You will also find my empowering CD "The Divine Feminine Garden Within"  You can find powerfully energetically infused jewelry (a result of great alchemy) at www.crystalvibejewelry.etsy.com created by Stacy Goforth and Valinda Salve.  If you feel led to purchase use a 10% discount with this code swalker1004.
