The dry lake bed of American political posturing: case study Lake Owens

    in Elections

Jimmy Carter is still teaching Sunday school in his 90s.  He has built a lot of habitats for humanity houses.  He keeps on trudging onto the eternal light.  Who else can set an example?  This year we look to leaders who will guide us to better decisions to determine our future.  We discuss the course of our religious values and sources of inspirations among the vast field of candidates beyond Trump.  All three co hosts somehow get into a metaphor of greed of how the L.A. aqueduct system drained Owens Lake in Calif.  We talk about political campaign donor limits and more....

Guelph Lake Sled Dog Race: Concept of friends to the reality of a new race

    in Entertainment

It helps to be a little crazy when you love sled dogs, and the people I'm going to be speaking with love them with their whole hearts. This group of friends via mushing and Siberians, put their heads together one day after a mush, and decided to put a dream into motion - to host a sled dog race. This group of friends that form the Guelph Lake Sled Dog Race committee are Jen Gastmeier, Ralph Shade, Sally Kirkby, Deb Langlois and Richard Meldrum, with consultant Joel Robert Jamison.

Those of us that mush and have been to races, see all that goes on, and we know it is hectic. For those that don't, imagine putting on a huge wedding with guests from all over North America, juggling food for a fancy sit down dinner, rooms for the guests, seating arrangements and more. Add to that the happy couple wanting a million dollar wedding for about $300 bucks, guests bringing teams of loud sled dogs, and then doing in in less than a few weeks. Although these friends have had more time than that, it is still quite an undertaking, with everything from securing a location to insurance, sponsors and more.

This first time race isn't just about all of us having a great time, and having the public come in to see some of the finest folks on runners with amazing dogs; this group wanted to give back too. So in conjunction with Grand River Hospital Foundation, they have Mush for Healthcare. They have 14 health care departments, and a musher choses a departmen to raise monies for that particular specialtiy area. On the day of the race, a representative from that department will be present to help that musher and team to the start chute, and totals will be tallied. All procedes go to the department of the team has raised funds for.

Several of these fine mushers are going to take some time and talk to us about the race from concept to reality, the trails and so much more!

The Metal Hammer of Doom - Celtic Frost - "Cold Lake"

    in Music

You're nice and full, just had dinner, maybe even seconds, topped it off with a little dessert and ready to slip into that tryptophan coma, when SUDDENLY there's a forceful pounding at the door. Who could that be at this late hour. All the guests have gone, don't they know its the holidays? And where is that loud music coming from? You reach for the door when its kicked open!

Standing there with evil grins are Robert Cooper and Jesse Starcher... THE THANKSGIVING METAL HAMMER OF DOOM CREW! But what is it they have on that plate they are holding? Another TURKEY?!? But not just any turkey. This is a very very bad turkey in the form of an album by Celtic

    Frost called “Cold Lake.”

Power of Perception music with ,Charise "Lake Lady" Sowells

    in Spirituality

As a teenager, Charise "Lake Lady" Sowells began writing songs with a Tascam 4-track and her voice. A singer with a penchant for interesting harmonies and an eclectic taste in music, her tone harkens back to an era before her time. Playing shows with her acoustic guitar and singing a capella early on led to a multitude of collaborations with singer-songwriters, bands, electronic DJs, pop producers and rappers in LA, NY, and abroad. In the midst of it all, Charise turned down enrollment to Berklee College of Music, opting for life in NYC where she graduated with honors and awards from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.

After working in film, TV, theater and the music industry for nearly a decade, Charise went on a national tour as a lead singer in a band. She then joined more bands and released a debut album under the moniker Sydney Miles. After a couple years she started her own tripped out duo, Lake Lady and the Mountain Man and most recently, her soulful folk pop trio, Lake Lady Ukulele Project. In addition to those collaborations, Charise is preparing to release her solo Lake Lady debut EP in 2016.
