PharmaGuy interviews Thomas P. Stossel, M.D., visiting scholar at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research, about his new book, PharmaPhobia, and his call to action against the "Conflict of Interest Movement."
In PHARMAPHOBIA: How the Conflict of Interest Myth Undermines American Medical Innovation (Rowman & Littlefield, April 2015), Tom Stossel describes how an ideological crusade, stretching over the last quarter century, has used distortion and flawed logic to make medical innovation even harder in a misguided pursuit of theoretical professional purity.
Questions/Topics of Discussion
What is the "conflict-of-interest myth" (you also refer to the "conflict-of-interest movement" and the "conflict-of-interest narrative")?
What regulations have been adopted as a result of this conflict-of-interest narrative?
Are there legitimate conflict-of-interest concerns that should be addressed by policymakers?
How have bureaucrats, reporters, politicians, and lawyers benefitted by attacking the medical products industry?
What solutions and reforms do you advocate?

The question of how much money to raise through the Open Space tax is a perennial topic in Bergen County. It came up again last week when the Freeholders voted to keep the tax at its current rate of one-quarter cent per $100 of assessed valuation. However, County Administrator Dominic Novelli left the door open to perhaps raising it next year.
In this segment of Record Talk Radio, Novelli talks about the administration's position on the tax. Freeholder David Ganz also weighs in on why he feels that amount is insufficient, given the county's needs.
In the second segment, Retired Marine Captain Ben Cascio talks about what it was like to be asked to give the keynote speech at Friday's Military Appreciation ceremony.
As we hit the quarter turn, Tim and Rich spend quite a bit of time talking about those players that are killing your teams and more importantly, can they get better. The list could have been a mile long, but some notable names are: Jay Bruce, Josh Harrison, Sir Albert, Chase Utley, Robinson Cano, Ian Desmond, and V-Mart.
They also spend time talking about the news items of the week including Thor's impressive start to his career, Steve Cishek and Addison Russell's demotion, and Jean Segura's broken finger and what to do if you are an owner.
Plus, there's Tim's Waiver Wire pickups and Two-start pitchers.

With 14 minutes left, Game 6 felt just like the two in Los Angeles before it. The Rockets were close at the half, trailing by just two, but found themselves again blitzed in the third quarter, with the Clippers pushing the 64-62 edge to 89-70.
In the prior two games, the Rockets folded and lost by 25+ points. This time? They answered with a stunning 49-18 counter-punch to close the game and tie the series, sending it back to Houston for a decisive Game 7.
The wildest part? MVP runner-up James Harden wasn't even playing, making it one of the more improbable and remarkable in-game turnarounds in NBA playoff history.
Our Ben DuBose is joined by Josh Reese of CBS Radio in Houston (Sports Radio 610) and the Red & Orange Report podcast to dissect just how it went down.
