WHO'S TO BLAME: Man and Religion, for Better or Worse

    in Politics

Religions are guised as tools to make mankind better.  We have seen the worst of what mankind is capable of in the name religion over the past week.  Who's to Blame?

Is there a specific religion responsible for violence?  Christianity?  Islam?  Scientology?

Or is it isolated to a geographic location?  Middle East?  Africa?  Florida?

Are religous texts responsible for the confusion over good and evil?  Remember Islam, Christianity and Judiasm are like a torn family.

Is mankind just inherently evil?  Yup.

What Does God Think About That?

    in Books

Christianity today can be confusing. There are so many churches and it's difficult to know which one to go to, what each one believes and how to choose a church that is a true Bible-believing church that will teach only what God says.

There are many churches that do not teach exactly what the Bible tells us. There are churches that teach the Quaran and the Bible are the same and call this belief "Chrislam", this is wrong and a lie from the devil. Some churches teach that when you die there is no hell and that everyone goes to "Paradise", this is not true either. Some churches teach that "once saved, always saved", this is also a lie. Others teach that all roads lead to Heaven, but that is a false teaching as well. Only Jesus can lead you to Heaven. Some churches are called "mega-churches" because they have thousands of members and they teach only the "happy" things, or "feel good" sermons that don't tell the members that there are consequences for our actions after we die. There are even some who believe there is no God and when we die, that is the end and there is nothing more. Don't let any of these false beliefs leave you standing before almighty God and His Son, Jesus, to explain your life or why you didn't answer the call of the Holy Spirit to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior.

The Bible is very clear about salvation, Heaven & Hell; don't let false teachings rob you of your salvation, or lead you to believe that there is no Hell. Our spirits leave our bodies after death and we have to answer to God and account for our lives on earth - if you stand before God today, what will you say?

Chicago, Rahm Emanuel, Koran and Tax Cuts

    in Politics Progressive

Richard Daley’s announcement that he won’t be seeking re-election next year, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has made no secret about his desire to be Chicago mayor, telling Charlie Rose in April that it’s “always been an aspiration of mine.” And he did nothing to tamp down the speculation when he released this statement yesterday: "While Mayor Daley surprised me today with his decision to not run for reelection, I have never been surprised by his leadership, dedication and tireless work on behalf of the city and the people of Chicago." If Rahm wanted to tamp down the speculation because he was leaning against running, he would have done so. What’s more, he can leave on his own terms and do so without embarrassing himself or the president. What will this mean for blacks living in Chicago? Who replaces Rahm if he decides to run? It is a total Washington outsider (Mike Bloomberg, GM’s Ed Whitacre)? A former insider (Tom Daschle, John Podesta, Leon Panetta)? A politician with a business background (Mark Warner)? Someone who won’t rock the boat, gets along with everyone, and is already on the senior staff (Ron Klain, Phil Schiliro, Tom Donilon)? Or what about a Republican (Ken Duberstein, Ray LaHood)? Would Barack Obama name a black person for the position? Also tonight, bigots are ready to burn the Koran, and the middle east is ready to re-act.

Let's talk about this and other hot political issues that we have missed over the past week. Tonight on the slugfest. "if you can handle the truth.'

OUR COMMON GROUND "The Attica State Prison Rebellion of 1971"

    in Politics Progressive

OUR COMMON GROUND with Janice Graham and Co-Host ALFO of The ALFO SHOW

The Attica Prison Rebellion of 1971" Audio documentary and discussion.

The Attica Rebellion was more than a prison insurrection. It was a window into the time and culture that produced it. It offers activists, scholars and non-scholars alike an opportunity to examine closely a facet of our society that most of us rarely see or experience yet which is increasingly viewed by other nations and cultures as a fixture of American life. We lock away millions of people every decade in penal institutions; occasionally, as in the case of Attica, their inmates rebel and become socially and politically visible. When they become visible, so do our prisons and our criminal justice system.
