OPEN CONVERSATION - WHAT 'S ON YOUR MIND?

    CALL # (347) 308 - 8131  Press #1 to speak

Religion restricts this play of choice and adaptation, since it imposes equally on everyone its own path to the acquisition of happiness and protection from suffering.  Its technique consists in depressing the value of life and distorting the picture of the real world in a delusional manner — which presupposes an intimidation of the intelligence.  At this price, by forcibly fixing them in a state of psychical infantilism and by drawing them into a mass-delusion, religion succeeds in sparing many people an individual neurosis.  But hardly anything more.  There are, as we have said, many paths which may lead to such happiness as is attainable by men, but there is none which does so for certain.  Even religion cannot keep its promise.  If the believer finally sees himself obliged to speak of God’s ‘inscrutable decrees’, he is admitting that all that is left to him as a last possible consolation and source of pleasure in his suffering is an unconditional submission.  And if he is prepared for that, he could probably have spared himself the détour he has made. /

How to Tell True from False Prophets, and the Holy Ghost

    in Religion

Section 29 of The Revelations of Jesus Christ read and discussed which contains keys for detecting true from false prophets.  Also Section 17 which gives the same for discerning whether a spirit or singing or trembling, fainting, etc is of God or a false spirit.   From Section 29: Yea, thus saith the Lord, can a bitter fountain bring forth good water, or a can a man being evil, do that which is good?  2 For it is, saith the Lord, that by their fruits ye shall know them.
3 For the fruits of my spirit, saith the Lord, do they not testify of me, even Jesus Christ, whom ye have hitherto not known?
4 And that which testifieth of me, is it not by me, saith the Lord God of Israel?
5 For I am he that doth speak unto thee, through the medium of mine appointment as in times of old, O Israel, who have been scattered among the nations.
6 Now is the time, saith the Lord, for thy regathering unto mine anointed as in times of old that I the Lord God shall remember thee, O Israel, and lead thee by  power such as has not been seen before or since, yea, even from Babylon with an outstretched arm as Moses, which is fallen.
7 Therefor that which is sent of me, doth not conflict and  contradict my words and my purposes which I have spoken through the mouths of others of my servants the Prophets, even Brigham Young and others, concerning Israel, and anything which contradicteth these my servants who have gone before is of the devil and is false, though it be a Spencer Kimball, who is a false prophet, saith the Lord God of Israel.

Haman’s Plot against the Jews (Esther 3:1-15)

    in Christianity

    TEXTS

After these events King Ahasuerus promoted Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him and established his authority over all the princes who were with him. All the king’s servants who were at the king’s gate bowed down and paid homage to Haman; for so the king had commanded concerning him.

But Mordecai neither bowed down nor paid homage. Then the king’s servants who were at the king’s gate said to Mordecai, “Why are you transgressing the king’s command?” Now it was when they had spoken daily to him and he would not listen to them, that they told Haman to see whether Mordecai’s reason would stand; for he had told them that he was a Jew. When Haman saw that Mordecai neither bowed down nor paid homage to him, Haman was filled with rage. But he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone, for they had told him who the people of Mordecai were; therefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews, the people of Mordecai, who were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus.

In the first month, which is the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, Pur, that is the lot, was cast before Haman from day to day and from month to month, until the twelfth month, that is the month Adar. Then Haman said to King Ahasuerus, “There is a certain people scattered and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom; their laws are different from those of all other people and they do not observe the king’s laws, so it is not in the king’s interest to let them remain.

If it is pleasing to the king, let it be decreed that they be destroyed, and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver into the hands of those who carry on the king’s business, to put into the king’s treasuries.” Then the king took his signet ring from his hand and gave it to Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the enemy of the Jews. The king said to Haman...
