Those who are dedicated, and their are many, to their careers and lives to providing a public education to our children should be recognized for their contributions, supported and included in our efforts to continuously improve our education system and to ensure that the students in every public school have equal opportunity and access to highly qualified teachers, staff and instructional resources. Their are many challenges facing public education. These challenges require a public school environment that fosters thoughtful solutions, shared responsibility, consideration of proven strategies and programs and public education policies that help ensure access to the excellent education every child deserves.
Our January 13 show features Dr. Kati Haycock, President of the Education Trust in Washington, DC.
Kati Haycock is one of the nation's leading advocates in the field of education. She currently serves as President of The Education Trust. Established in 1996, the Trust works for the high academic achievement of all students at all levels, pre-kindergarten through college. The organization’s goal is to close the gaps in opportunity and achievement that consign too many low-income students and students of color to lives on the margins of the American mainstream.
Known for years as a powerful force on education policy, The Trust is often described as “the most important truth teller” in American public education. But the organization also works hand in hand with educators and civic leaders in their efforts to transform schools and colleges into institutions that serve all students well.
Join us for a fantastic show on January 13 at 2pm for what promises to be a very informative show! Call in and "be the conversation".
Teach the Children Well: The Battle for Public Education featuring Diane Ravitch, one of the foremost authorities on education in the U.S.,former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Education, whistle-blower etraordinaire, author of the best-selling The Death and Life of the Great American School System, Reign of Error:The Hoax of the Privatization Movement and the Danger to America's Public Schools and other notable books on education history and policy " incisive, comprehensive looks at today s American public school system that argue against those who claim it is broken and beyond repair; an impassioned but reasoned call to stop the privatization movement that is draining students and funding from our public schools.
NYS Governor Cuomo manipulated the state budget, holding up its passage, until it included the hugely unpopular and anti-worker practice of pegging teachers tenure and evaluations to standardized tests grade results. While dropped from inclusion in the budget the Governors desire to see the proliferation of charter schools remains a mainstay on his educational agenda. These issues have been been heating up ever since Pres. Bush s No Child Left Behind plan, but especially since the roll out of Race to The Top and the Common Core State Standards so Building Bridges decided to tackle these issues with with Diane Ravitch, who infuses research, about the recent history of education policy reform, the strategies used for fighting back against these policies, and who proposes solutions that work to create sustainable, equitable, anti-racist, democratic and meaningful public education. Our conversation with Diane Ravitch is for anyone interested in an insider s look and leading a resistance or forming an organization towards reclaiming our public schools and reclaiming the public narrative around education policy.
Today we have a very special topic planned – “Where Is Public Education Going? And Where Should We Be Going?" We expect to have an open forum (which is only local) to begin at 10 AM Pacific Time and then to simulcast on the Internet and blog talk radio at 11 AM Pacific Time until 1 PM.
Unfortunately, especially for Blogtalk Radio because we will be unable to technically connect the panelist to the Blogtalk Radio platform, we do anticipate some technical problems when it comes to the panel portion [which is scheduled to begin at 11:30 AM Pacific Time]. Consequently, I recommended that during the panel portion [for Blogtalk to listeners] you go to aclearunderstanding.net where the broadcast will be streaming live from Oakland beginning with the panel at 11:30am.
My portion which is scheduled to begin at 12 PM Pacific Time should be without a problem. Insha’Allah
If you can't join the class locally then you can go to the link below and attend online starting at 11:30am til 1:30pm

Dying To Live - What's Holding You Back?
Todays education system is broken. The Government's ever reaching legislation arm is reaching into states rights by offering them money they desparetly need. Common Core is the program of choice, led by Bill Gates and the Gates Foundation. Meanwhile, the rights of students are being crushed in lieu of the golden rule, and the Government is the bank. Meanwhile, to garnish votes, the NEA and unions buddy up to each other to gain control over the system. Doug and Bill go in depth to talk about the differences between today and yesterday for the education system. Now, students are rebelling with rediculious stunts and cries of racism leaving most to say that the inmates are running the asylum. The students dope up (ADHD, ADD, etc) so teachers that are not allowed to discipline any longer, cam control unruley ones. The Unions push rediculious benefits and what they want for their constituants (voters and money=power), the progressives push socialist reforms upon the system (agenda) and the parents? Where the hell are the parents? They have given total control over to teachers because they are so smart and they are out making a "career". The United States spends more per pupil than any other country, yet we rank as one of the lower "educated" countries on Earth. Ronald Reagan said that it only takes one generation of bad to change a country forever. Folks, we are at that time. Join us at 7pm EST Tuesday December 1st.
