Somer Dawn: Army Veteran and Widow on a Mission to Combat PTSD

    in Writing

Somer Dawn wears several hats: veteran, widow, mother, nurse, author, PTSD awareness advocate, and founder of her nonprofit that supports PTSD victims and their families. Somer created True Blue Patriots Inc. to address the unaddressed issues concerning the consequences of PTSD sufferers. Its mission is simple: to support our soldiers and their families dealing with the effects of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and be part of the solution. in Spirituality

My name is Meilin. I am here to guide you to live an adventurous life. As a medium and healer, I am interconnected. Together, we will bloom and grow, gaining awareness of our potential. I speak or act with guidance to help you remember what you do. I assist you in acknowledging your true self so you can own your own wisdom.

When the flower is ready to bloom, she blooms so beautifully and everyone can see her beauty, Schönheit. There is nothing to study, you are learning to understand who you are so your strengths and gifts can be reclaimed; this is how we flourish. Our teachers, friends and families members have crossed our paths to nudge us along our journey to see our magnificence and connect us with the ancestral energy of light beings and starnations.

Life always presents experiences to grow and blossom anew. When you become calm enough feel free to expand into lightness, that’s when you know that you have foundGeborgenheit, the feeling of peace and security. And once we begin to live in light, our petals of perception open and welcome a deeper awareness of interconnectedness,Verbundenheit. Our awareness helps us rely on our experiences to give us insight into our consciousness and materialize beauty.

Once you begin to rely on insights from your experiences, you can begin to see how everything materialized from the heart, the source, it is beautiful. You have come to me because your own gifts and your intuition have brought you here so an exchange can take place.

My expertise has evolved through remembering and reclaiming who I am and what I can do. Through all my experiences, far beyond my expectations, it has become natural for me to say there is no “I”, but a “We” in my body at all times. The connectedness to everything and everybody is so clear.

This is a black arts and culture site. We will be exploring the African Diaspora via the writing, performance, both musical and theatrical (film and stage), as well as the visual arts of Africans in the Diaspora and those influenced by these aesthetic forms of expression. I am interested in the political and social ramifications of art on society, specifically movements supported by these artists and their forebearers. It is my claim that the artists are the true revolutionaries, their work honest and filled with raw unedited passion. They are our true heroes. Ashay!

This One Step - Older Adult Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse

Wednesdays we talk about finding support after breaking our silence.

Polly Moore grew up with six siblings in Mobile, Alabama, but was only 8 years old when her father died of lung cancer. Soon two neighborhood boys began to molest her, friends of her older twin brothers. A couple of years later she was assaulted by another neighbor and later by her older brother. She was able to break away from the abuse at the age of twelve, but was by then deep in the darkness of isolation. Polly is now a mother and grandmother, and has lived in Atlanta for the past 15 years. She is contemplating returning to finish her final year at Western Carolina University where she majored in Accounting, and has become a devoted advocate for adult survivors of Child Sexual Abuse.

She began her organization, This One Step, to help older survivors of Child Sexual Abuse deal with the trama of being part of what she has named, "The Unknown Generation"  A generation of survivors who had nowhere to go for support.  In her late teens she began writing as a coping mechanism to deal with the PTSD.  Her three books, "Cider Blocks and Oven Racks", "Billy Wayne's Christmas Train" and "The Unknown Generation" will be available in early 2016.  She has written many southern short stories which have been published in different publications.  She is now hosting her own blogtalk radio show Monday through Friday beginning at 6:00am.

    Anger: Hypnotherapy and Domestic Violence

    in Health

This month of November 2015, Nick & Joanna will be talking about Anger; first discussing the perspecive of Ayurveda on this intense and sometimes mysterious and dangerous emotion, and then on the 25th, as it relates to Domestic Violence and how hypnosis can be a  helpful tool for addressing and manging it.

As with all things in Ayurveda, we go back to the doshas.  Anger is primarily a Pitta emotion (Fire). The fire of Pitta, when out of balance can rage out of control and create havoc emotionally.  And as Ayurveda views all symptoms, we ask the question, what is it telling us; about our physical, mental, emotional and even spiritual well-being?

Are there some people who are just prone to an anger response when under stress?  Should anger always be judged as a bad thing? Is it ever justified? What can be done to manage anger from a Vedic perspective?

We will be talking about these things and more as well as providing some suggestions for keeping that internal fire burning brightly, but not out of control.

On the 25th, the focus will be on hypnotherapy as a tool to deal with anger as well as answer all of the questions above, from the perspecive of the hypnotherapist. We will also be focusing on domestic violence as a serious problem in our culture that must be addressed, and what we can do individually and collectively to be a part of the solution. It's more than just raising awareness.
