He Said, She Said - Double Survivor Episode on Recovery Now with Kim Justus

    in Radio

My guest tonight is Timothy Guetling, who suffered his brain injury in 1972. Timothy is SSGI retired 2013. The recurring repercussions caught him off guard, but he was able to work, paying income/payroll taxes for 40 years. Little was known about brain injury back then, and repeated TBI's altered his ability to perform as he once did. Now he is on several TBI,PTSD, BI/Disabled Groups offering his assistance to others, from his vast experience. Those  experiencing what he has can also practice daily "recovery evolution."  We'll talk about changes in how brain injuries were handled then and now on many levels ... Support, Family, Physicians, Education.

Darlene Krause was born with her first aneurysm. The second came as a result of a TBI on 7/7/12. She has had several strokes, seizures, and balance issues. Her journey has been a long one, but even more so in the last few challenging years. Her life, the life of her family and friends, has all been effected, and she continues to find her way.

This show is a gathering place for anyone seeking recovery from the challenges of life on life's terms. We discuss useful tools that have helped us lighten the load, of our journey through recovery. This is a "we" recovery program, because it is in the "we," that we find the new "me."

We focus on the four A's of Recovery: Awareness, Acceptance, Action and Adaptation. This is a place for survivor's striving to become thrivers.

Front part of show is a featured guest. The second is Open Mic and some great Indy Music, sure to inspire! Host is Kim Justus, author of In a Flash: Miracles Here and Beyond found at www.inaflash.org & "Like" at www.facebook.com/inaflash.org and www.facebook.com/braininjuryradionetwork

Empower Yourself! Author and Psychotherapist Rita Soman!

    in Spirituality

    http://ritasoman.com/

What if you learned that it is possible for you to create a life you desire to live. And if so, how would you like to visualize living your life today? Author and Psychotherapist Rita Soman, is an expert in helping people with issues related to physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of their life, including addictions and mental health related problems. She creatively uses a blend of psychotherapy and scientifically proven known as PSYCH-K® (developed by Robert M. Williams), which has been highly recommended by Dr. Bruce Lipton, Author of book, The Biology of Belief. With over 25 years of experience, Rita believes that the methods she uses in her practice, are the most effective and life-transforming, work very well with most other healing modalities.

Most psychotherapists & mental health professionals work only with the conscious mind. They are unaware of this very important fact, that the subconscious mind controls 95-99 percent of most behaviors and biology and plays a big role in decision making. So it is not that by choice that people keep suffering and relapsing, but it is because they hold beliefs that are contrary to their goals, automatically cause them to make improper decisions & engage in self-defeating behaviors. As a result they experience failure after failure. Once the limiting beliefs are replaced with positive and self-empowering beliefs, success then becomes a self=fulfilling prophecy

    Wednesday

                            Help Me!

Wednesday is dedicated to survivors to call in and let us all know how they are seeking their support.  How are they making the effort to find a support group, volunteer at a non-profit, researching or professional counseling?  It is hard work learning how to find your healing and it takes time to learn how to live in your new life.  Living in healing is something very new to survivors who have broken their silence and it takes a while to get a rhythm and security in their daily walk.

Black Love &Relationships: Adoption, Foster Care and the Black Family

    in Culture

Generation after generation, our Black families have suffered through slavery, poverty, and drug addictions.

With that being said, there have been instances where Black children have been placed in the system under the umbrella of foster care and then sometimes adoption. What is the system like that has been taken from their family? Does it matter that their are cultural differences between what white people think and what Black people think is different such as the way you discipline your child? What is a CASA or Guardian Ad litem?

We will discuss this matter and discuss how we can be more involved in caring for our own.

Enabling or Empowering in Weight Loss: Know the Difference, Michelle Edmonds

    in Weight Loss

An enlightening, often overlooked topic. This tough love conversation about enabling , (a term more often used in addictions and substance abuse counseling)  and how the term applies to the relationship between a participant and their weight loss program.  In essence, the  weight loss program becomes the  enabler; as long as it is  there AND it WORKS, I can eat what I want and just start again!. The game is this: The clinician thinks the person is motivated to release weight; the disconnect in communication is that the client is really just testing their safety net, before  returning  to their old habits. This cycle needs to stop and  is physically dangerous, hence the reason for this broadcast

The program director and author of the program is Michelle Edmonds, M.A., M.Ed. Ms. Edmonds is affectionately  known as "The Godmother" of Wellness,  A/K/A  the "drill sergeant".A trained counseling psychologist, she is a dynamic  speaker in the area of  wellness and personal development. Ms. Edmonds is also the CEO and Station Manager of Serenity Radio Network (SRN), an empowerment  station that focuses on MIND, BODY, and SPIRIT

    Tuesday

Speaking the truth to your family.

Telling your family that you were molested as a child is about the hardest part of breaking your silence.  Many of us were molested by a family member who is respected and loved by most.  You will begin to stack the reasons and excuses as to why you can’t or shouldn’t tell your family in your head and it sounds very reasonable in your head, but you know that it has to be done.

Breaking your silence to someone you trust is just opening the old infected wound and letting the poison out, but as adults we all know that our wound is not going to truly heal if we don’t let the doctor cut it open and clean it out completely.  We are adults that were traumatized as children.  We know better now.  We are not little boys and girls and we have to set the example for others and show ourselves that we deserve being healthy and getting healing.  We have to refuse to allow our molesters have power over us another day!  You have to stop looking over your shoulder and walking on egg shells.  This is what happened and it was not your fault and it is time to experience your life as it should be!
