Warrior Talk with GI Jenn & Jeff Gonzales: This week we have two very special guests joining us. SF CW2 Mark Roland & SF Lt. Col (Ret.) D. Scott Mann.
First, CW2 Mark Roland, an SF soldier who confronted Post Traumatic Stress personally, will be joining us to talk about his experiences (when it started, how the symptoms progressed, what led him to get help, some of his misconceptions and barriers to treatment, and what he has learned since then. Mark's candor made him and integral part of the Breaking the Stigma Project. We will find out how it is going and the impact the project has made.
Then, we will have SF Lt. Col. (Ret.) D. Scott Mann, 23 years in the U.S. Army, most of that as a Green Beret doing missions all over the world, with three combat tours in Afghanistan, as well as in many other conflict zones such as Iraq and Colombia. His last few years in the Army, I was an architect and original implementer of the Special Operations Village Stability Operations (VSO)/Afghan Local Police (ALP) programs in Afghanistan.
Now, Lt. Col Mann is the Founder and the Chief Executive Officer of the Stability Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to brokering knowledge and connecting stability professionals on complex stability issues around the globe. Fuzzy Manning, CEO of PTS Treatment and host of “PTS Treatment Worldwide” Blog Talk Radio Show – interviews Co-Founder & COO Tess Cacciatore of GWEN Network, to talk about “Living a Life Beyond Abuse.” Global Women’s Empowerment Network (GWEN) envisions a world free from violence and abuse, a world where women, men and children grow from mutual respect, support and love. GWEN is every woman, man and child who is committed to take a stand for victims of abuse; empower them to find their voice, and have that voice be heard. We are inviting you to be a part of the voice for change. Every week, every day, every minute and every second reality becomes a statistic. Worldwide women and children are being unbearably and brutally attacked, whether it be emotional, verbal, sexual, physical, financial or even spiritual. Manipulation and mutilation scar the human psyche and innocent victims fall prey to the vicious cycle of abuse.
Abuse comes in many forms. Whether physical, sexual or emotional, abuse scars its victims. In some cases abuse can be so subtle victims live for years not realizing how another person compromised their quality of life. Unknowingly, victims can continue the abuse by placing themselves in unsafe places and life-threatening situations. The reality and ramifications of their past and present abuse often eludes victims until a third-party steps up to intervene, support, and listen. Often only then can abuse victims escape the abusive relationship or situation, seek justice and heal.
An Urgent call went out..we had a Missing War Fighter in Idaho. Little did anyone know at the time, it would change several peoples lives , and inspire them to never let another Warfighter go missing without us Stepping in and going into action to find them. Erik Jorgensen sent his family a heartbreaking text from his phone, indicating that he wanted to end his life. He was suffering from PTS and TBI at the time. His Battle with the PTS and TBI was wearing him down, and he felt like he could not take it for one more day. Several Warfighter groups, organizations, and individuals, all pulled together to strategise a search to find him in time. His family was en route from California and we needed to take action. Several road blocks were thrown up and hindered our efforts to find Erik. Law Enforcement refused to work with us and to put a search party together. They hindered media covering the case, and we were left to our own devices. Several outside Organizations pulled together along with members of the community, and we went to work. Through the weekend, several areas were covered, and people scurried through the Mountains, and through areas that they thought he may have went. We were only able to get 1 news Media to cover the case and to let the Community know that one of Warfighters were missing. Fliers blanketed the town, and all efforts were made to find Erik in time... BUT we were to late. On this Show, we have Erik's Mother Cindy joining us to give you an amazing insight to who Erik was as a person, his passion, his struggles and more. We vowed to never let Erik's death go in vein and worked together to create a bill to change the laws so that we are able to help others live and not meet the same fate as Erik. Also on the show, 2 special guests about the programs and support system that is out there right now for our Battles in Distress and also many other resources come from Warrior Pointe.
Fuzzy Manning, CEO of PTS Treatment and host of “PTS Treatment Worldwide” Blog Talk Radio Show – interviews CEO of The Arms Forces Pam Hays, to talk about “Listening to Veterans – Making a Difference.” The Arms Forces was founded in 2009 as a nonprofit organization by Pam Hays, a severe traumatic brain injury survivor, after years of research on traumatic brain injury. She found a major gap in services that can keep veterans from fully utilizing the often cumbersome system of supports and services that exist for them. She found that many veteran TBI and PTSD survivors were not reaching their full potential. Understanding that the system of services is supposed to exist for the survivor, not the other way around, she developed a plan to find a way to bring services to veterans that matched their unique challenges from their invisible wounds. Services used by The Arms Forces for veterans are: Life Navigation Coach (LNC), LEEF Family Support Experience, and TBI/PTSD Training, Presentations a
We maintain a network of trained volunteer Life Navigation Coaches who give individual assistance to our wounded warriors who have the invisible wounds of war, at no cost to the veteran. We understand the impact on lives that traumatic brain injury or post-traumatic stress disorder can have and we provide a compass that allows our veterans to reach their highest potential and improve the quality of their lives.
