Conflict in the workplace is inevitable, but Toxic, difficult workplaces are not. Mediation is a tool that can help. And sadly, most HR professionals don’t know this. They think mediation is not for them, when in fact they are effectively mediating all the time. Come learn why mediation is vital for your career and also your workplace!
John Ford is the founder of the HR Mediation Academy and author of Peace at Work: The HR Manager’s Guide to Workplace Mediation. He mediates; trains; and consults to organizations that have accepted the inevitability of conflict and are seeking to approach it with greater clarity and confidence. He was the managing editor of Mediate.com from 1999 to 2011, and is a past president of the Association for Dispute Resolution of Northern California.

Right now, it's the wild, wild West in this industry. So many certifications and organizations trying to manage those certified and uncertified and newly certified instructors, while simultaneously branding themselves as the leader in group fitness innovation. Who is advocating for the instructor? We must advocate for ourselves. We must agree on our own standards. We must work together to build a product that is 'as sold/ as delivered'
I want to know what you think. Please connect with me through social media or as a guest on the show.

Dr. Marjorie Melnick Heymann, Psychologist and former theater director, is a Lecturer in Psychiatry at Columbia University. She will be interviewed by
Dr. Evelyn Montanez, Ph.D, from NYU's Silver School of Social Work and is currently the program manager of elementary school based mental health promotion and prevention programs at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Dr. Heymann's program, Communication Through Theater, uses professional theater/acting techniques to help medical professionals improve skills that are critical to the doctor/patient relationship. Using dialogues, scripts, and written characters/patients specially created for this training, doctors get to practice and observe each other as they improve their communication skills. The main components of the program that will be addressed during this interview include:
- being present;
- active listening;
- active empathy; and
- the final component where doctors, as themselves in their real life roles - interview patients played by other doctors.
Dr. Heymann can be reached at: email@example.com

Host Kevin Hunter features guest Linda Leon of Book Marketing Professionals on The Business Forum Show. Ms. Leon states that her best learning experience was simply having to sell. Here on TBFS Radio, we sometimes meet business owners that are getting ready to get ready. In Ms. Leon's case, she just had to do get out and there make it happen.
Here's a note from Linda:
"My challenges came as a result of the personal learning curve that I had to take to learn to sell books. I had been ripped off by a predatory company, that is why I have the passion for authors. This was before print on demand and was left with a garage full of books to sell. It took me several years to get those books out of my garage but it was the best training I could have received in book marketing."
