World Footprints returned to New Orleans for our 7th annual French Quarter Festival 2-hour broadcast. This year we set up at Tableau Restaurant, Dickie Brennan's newest culinary gem in Jackson Square. This second hour of our FQF broadcast explores the unique history of New Orleans with two prominent professors from the University of New Orleans.
The diverse heritages of the people of New Orleans makes this city very unique, interesting and alive with traditions that are not found in any other city in the country. New Orleans is a place where Africans intermingled with Native Americans and european settlers ultimately creating a sustainable culture that distinguishes New Orleans today. Dr. MaryMiitchell, History Professor at UNO, joins us to discuss the African contributions to New Orleans and the dynamics that slavery played in the development and culture of this city.
Most people don’t equate compassion and beauty when they think of Voodoo, but Voodoo historian, Professor Martha Ward, says that is what she discovered when she first began researching the practice. Prof. Ward is a Professor Emeritus at UNO and author of the book, Voodoo Queen: The Spirited Lives of Marie Laveau, the only academic account of the famous New Orelans voodoo priestess and her daughter, Marie Laveau II. Professor Ward offers a Voodoo history lesson and her belief that Hollywood and media have incorrectly racialized and stigmatized Voodoo.
Enjoy our FQF hour one discussion of New Orleans art and history.

Tinga Stewart (born Neville Stewart in 1959 in Kingston, Jamaica) is holding strong as a purveyor of dancehall reggae. He started recording in the late '60s; his first recording was "She's Gone" in 1969 but the release of "Hear That Train" with Ernest Wilson, who was a member of the Claredonians, really got the ball rolling. The pairing with Wilson was spur of the moment as Stewart also led a group (the Wildcats) that performed in Kingston's hotels and clubs. From that, he joined Byron Lee & the Dragonaires and gigged all over Jamaica with the popular group. Though reggae-rooted, Stewart was popular with tourists because of his love for American pop hits, especially soul music. A stint with Boris Gardner Happening Band was his last group venture before going solo in 1973, when he enjoyed a local hit with "Funny Feeling." In 1974, he won the Jamaica Festival Song Competition by singing "Play de Music," written by Ernie Smith. Roman Stewart -- his brother -- won the contest the following year with a song Stewart and Willie Lindo wrote, entitled "Hooray Festival."
Stewart was voted the Most Popular Artist in Jamaica in 1981
JUDAH! O JUDAH! JUDAH! I HEARD IT ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT! A STRONG KING must GOVERN for the GOOD of OUR PEOPLE! Therefore, from whence then come the multitude of DIVISIONS and CONTENTIONS that exist today among you? (Romans 11:25-27, 2:29-3:4, 1Cor.3:1-4, 3:14-<18-4:5) Will you exalt yourSELF in your many INfirmities? (Isaiah 48:1-<22-49:10>-<22-23>-51:8) Will you seek to preserve what must surely be dissolved? (Daniel 2:44, 2Kepha chapter 3 ... Isaiah chapter 19) Know ye not that YOU were appointed FIRST of the TRIBES of ISRAEL to HONOR the MOST HIGH? (Genesis 29:35) You were FIRST chosen give raise the STANDARD for ALL the TRIBES,even the STANDARD-BEARER that YOU were thusly CHOSEN even OBLIGATED that you FIRST NOW must NOW AWAKEN? (Hosea 11:10-12, Revelation 7:5) Discern that seeing the DIFFERENCES of BELIEF and OPINION that exists among OUR PEOPLE, YOU O JUDAH, of ALL the TRIBES should NEVER have allowed yourself to be so easily resigned unto SELF-SATISFACTION! Certainly not seeking unmerited PRIDE at the expense of the IDENTITY of ALL ISRAEL! A STANDARD must unto the HONOR of the HOLY NAME be raised for the RE-STRENGTHENING of OUR PEOPLE! Will you now be wise to discern the STANDARD-BEARER that RIGHTEOUSNESS shall RULE OUR PEOPLE?
YOU WHO WOULD RULE! REMEMBER NOW THE SHEMA! (Deut.6:5, Mark 12:29-31) LET NOW THE WAY OF THE PROMISED KING OF THE EAST BE PREPARED! (Isaiah 11:1-12, 40:1-<27-41:4>-43:15)
The Wardlaw Brothers on NiACOM Platform Tonight @ 7pm CST!!!
When thinking of 5 biological brothers that have made a huge impact on the world through music, two names automatically come to mind: The Jackson 5 and The Winans. Now, with a unique and extraordinary blend of vocal harmony, emerge five brothers known as THE WARDLAW BROTHERS (TWB).
Dubbed the “Boyz II Men of Gospel”, TWB consists of four lead singers, and one dynamic bass man. The eldest brother, Carl Anthony “Tony” has the traditional, soulful voice. Martin Luther “Lute” is the lead vocalist with a voice that speaks to the spirit. He is also the primary songwriter, musician and producer. “Jamie” Cornelius is the melodious bass man that defines TWB’s distinctive sound while Carl III “Carlo” melds in the urban/hip hop flavor. Lastly,Rodney Allen “Baby Boy”, contributes the smooth, serene voice of the five. Georgia natives, TWB are the sons of Rev. and Mrs. Carl Wardlaw Jr. who taught their children early that ministry was a part of life.
Over the years, with the discovery and nurturing of gifts, music ministry evolved. But, whether assisting others in need or mentoring troubled youth, TWB take pride in helping others and do not compromise that which was inspired by their parents.
They began to revise the original songs they sang as youth and sculpt their own distinctive brand of harmony and acclimation. The brothers realized how God had blessed them and they began composing their own songs.

Well if you're looking (or listening) for one last hurrah before the summer officially ends and school and the fall season star, why not listen to Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse broadcast, airing this Saturday at 6pm EST? Join Daryll B., Capt. Kirk and Dburt as they borrow the keys to Fred's "Mystery Machine" in order to anaylze this week's latest conundrums: actor/comedian/rapper, Donald Glover appears to have gotten his Spiderman wish ; has Wesley Snipes really been confirmed to revisit the Blade franchise for a cool 3 mill plus?; and speaking of reboots, our thoughts on Fox rebooting The Greatest American Hero series; Dburt and Comics Alliance's Chris Sims are both asking about the skewed trajectory of one of DC's original characters, Cassandra Cain (Batgirl); Spike Lee has a new comic but the crew must ask what is the overall end game for celebrity created comic books?; and how cool is it that the Black Nerd Problems site has dubbed the Afropunk festival the new "Wakanda" (we can dig it); and lastly, what would the crew like to see character development-wise in mainstream Black comic characters (Falcon, Panther, Storm, Black Lightning, Cage, etc)? Call live at 646-915-9620.
And in a display of designated hitter status, airs at 7pm. The topics on the table are: cleaning up some of the issues we failed to address during the last show (i.e. the #iftheygunnedmedown campaign, Kevin Sorbo rant; Megyn Kelly vs Bill O'reilly on White privilege, Mo'ne Davis); is that a budding "afronerd" we see in a car seat viral video? (how exasperating!) ; 71 yr old bodybuilder, Sonny Bryant reminds Dburt that it's time for Operation:Rebirth and our thoughts on the N-word being used on the front page of an Egyptian newspaper.

Empty Nest Syndrome on Dr. Carol Francis Talk Radio, August 30. Mothers and fathers who dedicated the last 18 plus years of moneys, marital bliss, prodding, laughing and sweating through parenting confusions launch their college students out of the house. Relief and parenting pride intermix with loss, depression and sense of “now what.” Dr. Carol Francis as a Clinical Psychologist has helped teens and parents successfully move to this day. Empty-Nesting is for real and Dr. Carol Francis for over 37 years has helped parents regroup after their household becomes quiet and their time is once again their own. Program is available on podcast and archived at this link as well on Dr. Carol Francis Talk Radio.
The primary caretaker, still typically mothers, are the ones most suffering from this sense of loss. Empty Nesters feel depressed, frequently crying. Beyond the loss and this type of bereavement, Empty Nesters experience a type of existential crisis. This “now what” reflects a type of meaninglessness. “Effectively, raising children is all-consuming. Every minute become consumed raising the child by either doing, planning, thinking, worrying, helping, struggling, and losing sleep. Now, suddenly, those children are not dependent and not needing the daily demands, at least in the western world,” explains Dr. Carol Francis.
“Unless the Empty Nester create sdynamically enjoyable and meaningful activities which replace the importance and time-consuming nature of parent, the Empty Nester is doomed to confusion, feeling impotent, unimportant, devalued; bottom line the parent feels completely empty,” describes Psychologist Dr. Carol Francis in Los Angeles South Bay area at 310-543-1824.
