Do You Pretend to Be Someone You Aren't?

    in Self Help

Do You Pretend to Be Someone You Aren't?

Do you pretend to be someone other than who you are?  Is that a bad thing?  It depends.  The power of the mind is awesome.   As children, many of us pretended to be cowboys, cowgirls, doctors, nurses, fashion models, white rabbits and many other things.  This would transition us to another world.  As teenagers, many of us forgot to use the power of our imagination and fell into feelings of inferiority or not being enough.  As adults, we know the mind is powerful and know that what we believe is what usually comes about.  So could it be a good thing to pretend?  As long as you are anchored in reality, knowing the truth about you and your situation.  Then you can use the power of your imagination for good…for your success.

Napoleon Hill once said, “The imagination is the workshop of the soul.”  This is where we can create who we want to be and what we want in our lives.

Pretending can be very powerful.  If you want to travel the world, why not start cutting out pictures of all the places you want to go and put them in a scrapbook.  Then write out what you will need to take with you to each of these places, who you will go with, what you will do while you are there.

You can use the art of visualization to become whomever you would like to become as well. Picture who you want to be...exactly as you want to be. This doesn’t mean you have to quit working .  In fact, you may have to work harder,  You must see in your mind who you want to be and what that person would be like and then take consistent action to make it come about.

Join Choices host, Judi Moreo, author of You Are More Than Enough and licensed hypnotherapist, to find out how you can use the power of your mind to be the person you want to be.

    General Description:

'In the GAP', is a weekly hour of powerful global prayer aimed at immersing ourselves in the Spirit and letting God direct our attention to current areas of practical need. SwCA Episode 010: Be careful what you pretend to be because you are what you...

SHOW NOTES: This episode is part of our JOYFUL ART OF BUSINESS™ series wherein we explore how to combine the positive benefits of our professional endeavors (“business”) with the overall positive emotional return on our efforts (“joy”). The act of engaging in professional endeavors, in any capacity (i.e., as an employee, employer, entrepreneur, contractor, volunteer, paid, full time, part time, intermittently, etc.) is an expression of our ideas and creative talents (“art”). In this episode we are exploring the specific topic of “Be careful what you pretend to be because you are what you pretend to be.”

Authenticity is a "buzz word" in business. Is it hype, hyperbole or accurate? The episode title is a quote from author Kurt Vonnegut (who I encourage you to read if you have not previously done so as part of our overall knowledge base in life). Are we pretending, is everyone else is doing so and what that means for reaching our desired outcomes in life? In order to discern whether we are pretending to be someone that we are not, we have to address the underlying issue of who we actually are. That may be obvious to some individuals but other people struggle to define what they want, how they feel, what they desire, what their dreams are as separate and original apart from their family, friends, and cultural/ media messages of who they “should” be.

Racism Hid Behind Rose Colored Glasses in America, 1964~2008

    in Politics

America is into rose color glasses. Americans only want to see certain things in certain ways. It may be OK to pretend we are not 50 pounds over weight. We can just buy a larger size of the same outfit. Then we don't have to face the truth. Is it never OK to wear rose colored glasses when it is about our own health and well being. It is not OK when it harms society. This country was once was young, but now we are old. America is old enough to have fixed broken from centuries ago. It is time for America face the facts of our history and grow up. Repent and fix the mistakes past and present. This is the only way we all can begin to heal. America was the land of the Indians. Whites immigrated to America and stole America from Indians. White sea Captains stole Africans and brought them to America to sell to plantation owners to use as free labor. Africans that survived the trip to America were beat into submission to obey White men. Animals and Africans had basically the same value. Property of White men. Africans were stripped of their language to prevent plotting to escape. Africans were property of Whites until 1865. Africans were freed, yet freedom for many lead to sharecropping on some of the same plantations where they slaved in bondage. When Black begin to use their skills to produce and make money, Black code laws were put in place to keep Blacks dependent on Whites. Immigrants entering America were blended into the social order of the country, putting immigrants above Africans. Africans by now were viewed very negatively by all. African either submitted to being characterized as nothing, or they were beat brutally or hung by the neck until dead and left to be seen by all other Africans who dared to not accept racism in America. After the Civil Rights Act of 1965 racism put on rose colored glasses. 2008, the glasses come off.

    Shining Light On Your Shadow

    in Self Help

Each of us has a shadow; those qualities, traits and habits that we wish away and deny. We pretend they do not exist, trying desperately to shove them under the carpet until eventually we trip over the carpet. In literal terms when we deny parts of ourselves we end up indulging, falling off the wagon and seeing these traits take over and hold us in a desperate power struggle.

We beat ourselves up, we get depressed we wonder why is it that we cannot get rid of these horrible traits. The reason is complex and simple all at the same time. These traits are a part of us, what makes us whole. Without the dark there is no light. Without our uglieness there is no beauty. Without impatience there is no patience. We cannot emrbace the light if we deny its shadow.

In the first show back since the birth of Laura's daughter, Artemis, the ladies come back with a bang. New look (AGAIN!), new format and new show ideas designed to help you live fully, boldly and authentically.

Join Laura and Lisa live to share your shadow and work with the ladies as you seek to embrace, not deny, the qualities that the girls will show at one point likely saved your life.
