State Rep. Mary Flowers Examines Police Misconduct In Laquan McDonald Shooting

    in Women

What are the consequences when public servants, employed by the taxpayers, violate the public's trust? The city of Chicago erupted in protest over the Thanksgiving weekend after the release of the dashcam video graphically showing the killing of 17 year old Laquan McDonald by police officer Jason Van Dyke in 2014. For an entire year, this video has been withheld, and with its court ordered release came a series of questions as to who was involved in the coverup. Young Laquan, a ward of the State, should have received more care, support, and intervention, it seems, rather than to be shot to death for carrying a knife with which he allegedly was puncturing car tires. Illinois State Representative Mary Flowers joins us today to discuss the many levels of official misconduct that need to be addressed by elected officials as well as the voting public, in holding those accountable who violate the public trust. Can new laws and new regulations protect citizens from police abuse? Should the entire police force be scrapped and all forced to re-apply? Should mandatory psychological exams be instituted before an officer is hired? How do we weed out those who have already racked up complaints for excessive force, before they kill someone else

This is I.T. (Inconvenient Truth)!!! – Being the seed of Hope

    in Motivation

This is I.T. (Inconvenient Truth)!!! – Being the seed of Hope

We need to start encouraging people that suffer from a chronic pain or illness starts within first by realizing that “H.O.P.E.” can be easily explained and put into a daily habit in life in which we tell ourselves and others what we know deep inside. H.O.P.E. (Hold On Pain Eases) means that despite the daily struggle you still hold on to the fact that you made it another day. Build on the knowledge that with H.O.P.E comes a mental attitude that reminds you to keep fighting and believing that better days are still ahead. No it will not be easy or stress free but knowing that if you still move ahead you will walk through the storm. The road may be muddy or rocky but through determination you can continue down your path in life taking each step towards your destination in life. During the holiday seasons many struggle with anxiety, bills, family, friends, and self worth, but if we all know that our worth is how we define ourselves in our mind. No one wants to face things along but know that many may suffer right along with you so become the seed of hope to inspire and encourage others to “Hold On Pain Eases.”

Ross Delafield was born and raised in New York City.

A walk across the United States was the daunting idea – 2,700 miles from Camp Pendleton, CA to Washington, DC, all to raise awareness for their wounded brothers and sisters in arms. In April 2013, Adam and Chris started planning their journey – planning their route, notifying friends, and spreading the word of wounded veterans in need.Over several months, thousands of miles, and many pairs of shoes, Adam went on to complete the journey and inspire a nation.

To create experiences that empower veterans to help themselves and others. The Wounded Walk is a nonprofit organization located in Leesburg, Virginia. Our goal is to challenge, motivate, and empower physically and mentally wounded military veterans by leading wilderness excursions, camping treks, and mountaineering expeditions. The Wounded Walk also advocates for the advancement of post-combat treatment for wounded veterans.
The log is a 40lb Memorial that represents those who have taken their own lives. We carry this everywhere we go in honor of those who lost their grip.

Nearly 22 US Veterans take their own lives EVERY day. That is over 8,000 per year. 40,000 since 2010.

    Kenneth Clark
    SFC, USA Retired

My name is Kenneth Clark and I grew up in South Florida in a city called Coconut Grove with my family of six. Life was difficult. The vast streets bore challenges to our curiosity, and as kids we took to the opportunity to the local parks for our adventures. As we got older we had to experience the life without a farther. This situation put us in a fast track life where we had to mature immediately.

I quckly understood the importance of preparation, hard work, and respect. I applied these values to my endevours by making an inventory of resources, planning my activities for efficiency, working on my goals every single day, and giving my body the necessary rest, it needed to operate. My upbringing has completely supported my development and I am thankful for it.
In December 1986 I enlisted in the United States Army and shipped to basic training on August 13, 1987. I never thought I would be a career soldier. I was an enlisted soldier for 20 plus years.
During my Career I was involved in the follow campaigns, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom

My husband and his best friend had the idea to go kayaking. They said they'd be back and that I couldn't go because I couldn't hack it lol so I was like "screw you" and went out and bought a kayak. We arrived late on Saturday and were supposed to be out late Sunday. But I got super sick on Sunday and by Monday I couldn't hole anything down. Our friend left to find help. And we had two night out there. Tune in for the rest of the story!!!!
