Nia AKA Marni M. Williams, Esquire defied all odds as a teenage mother when she graduated from Penn State University with a B.A. in Social and Behavioral Sciences. She later graduated from Temple School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree and practiced in the areas of corporate and commercial litigation, human resources, stock transactions and contracts. In June of 2002, Marni started a publishing company and released her first book, My Little Book of Poetry: as a one of a kind, limited edition collection. As one of the winners of the Power 99 Def Poetry Contest for her poem, Idolatry, she launched her spoken word debut on the air at the Philadelphia radio station, Power 99 FM on July 7, 2002. She released her poetry book in paperback in February, 2003 and has shared her poetry throughout the Delaware Valley and beyond, including Georgia, Florida, Washington, D.C. and California anywhere an audience would gather... churches, comedy shows, community events, private affairs, colleges, radio stations, poetry events and anywhere in between . Responding to requests from readers, Marni released her first poetry CD entitled, Marni Speaks, Marni Seeks Truth: in July, 2003. Marni has devoted her life to the submission of God’s will in using her testimony to inspire others. She speaks regularly as a keynote speaker, poet and workshop facilitator at churches and special events. Marni Williams who now is known as Nia Poet, Spoken Word Artist, Advocate, Inspirational Speaker and Orator.

THIS WEEK’S MESSAGE:
Intersectionality is a term that was coined by American professor Kimberlé Crenshaw in 1989. Intersectionality is most commonly defined as the interconnected nature of social categorizations such as race, class, and gender as they apply to a given individual or group, regarded as creating overlapping and interdependent systems of discrimination or disadvantage. This scholarly and progressive view of "valuing diversity" originally encompassed "women" and their experience of oppression in varying configurations and in varying degrees of intensity. Yet, the prospective has been extended into include all people who have experienced cultural patterns of oppression. The theory is that cultural patterns of oppression are not only interrelated, but are bound together and influenced by the intersectional systems of society. Examples of this include race, gender, class, ability, and ethnicity. According to one leading expert, "through an awareness and the leveraging of intersectionality, we can better acknowledge and ground the differences among us, gain the benefits of inclusion within both academic and corporation environments and enhance the global society as a whole."
