Random Thoughts with Random Excess Ep 6: Mindful not Mind Full

    in Personal Journals

In the previous Episode, Episode 5, I talked about the din from thoughts in my head competing for attention. I talked about being Mind Full and today I want to take about being Mindful

I have done years of therapy of all kinds including lots of DBT (Dialectacle Behavioral Therapy), indicated for personality disorders and obsessive behaviors and a few other diagnoses. DBT, if you permit me to oversimplify it a bit, is the merging of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Zen Buddhism... and relies heavily on doing things mindfully.

Every DBT group I have ever been in starts with going over what it means to be mindful and talks about three states of mind, Reasonable, Emotional, and Wise... and as an aside, I think the Resasonable mind should be called the Rational Mind. The rational mind is the seat of contemplation and analysis. Basically the executive function of the frontal cortex

The Emotional mind might also do with a different name more suggestive of its function, something like the Motivated Mind, or Triggered Mind, or even the Action Mind. It is the seat of taking action. It sits down in what some call the lizard brain and involves the functions the hippocampus and amygdala and is very closely linked to our memories, espeically those experiences of deep personal meaning.

The Dark Underbelly of Leadership: Chaos

    in Culture

Linda Lombardo and Joss Rowlands explore Chaos, as a leadership tool and an opportunity for creativity.

As we move from a Deterministic Era into a Quantum Mechanical Revolution, complex systems – like humans - continue to seek patterns. As humans, we seek patterns in our thoughts, our work, our lives and in the world. Our prefrontal cortex, it turns out, is a pattern making machine.

No wonder so many of us are asking, "Who turned up the dial on chaos?" and "What's there for me in all this chaos?"

Voice of Evolution Radio seeks to find answers to those questions in this LIVE Dark Underbelly of Leadership episode.

    Zach Polsfuss: Higher Brain Living

    in Self Help

Head for Your Prefontal Cortex through Higher Brain Living! Remarkably, the videos show that following a patterned set of light touches to a reclining body, the body begins to move in a coordinated, patterned rhythm, movement that accompanies a person accessing the ability to live in the Higher Brain. Decisions are easier, confidence soars, and you can figure things out that have been stumping you! I’m looking forward to this visit with Zach Polsfuss.

If, indeed, we’re entering a new way of being human, then we need to learn to access new parts of ourselves, relate differently to our minds and bodies, and change our relationship with ourselves. Chiropractor Dr. Michael Cotton has devised and teaches one method for shifting energy into the prefrontal cortex, awakening human potential, for a lifetime. The Higher Brain Living® technique is a revolutionary gentle-touch process where a trained facilitator activates specific points in the body in a specific sequence with specific timing, creating a surge of energy from the primal fear-based lower brain into the prefrontal cortex, the seat of the Higher Brain. Zach Polfuss is a trained facilitator. Click here to visit Zach Polsfuss' LinkdIn page.

"The Science of Healing" sermon by John G. Lake Pt. 3

    in Religion

First today:  reviewing Dr. Lake's statements about the comparison between human digestion and assimilation of God's Spirit by your spirit.

Then the experiment he had done upon the cortex cells of his brain and the results.  The great dynamo of prayer and then some wonderful testimonies from which we can learn to 'grow up in God'.

I focus on the 'chair of pneumatology' and this program includes the statement of Dr. Lake where my interest in such a thing began.

"One of these days there is going to be a new chair (in the great schools of the land).  It will be a chair of pneumatology....the science of spirit, by which men will undertake to discover the laws of God.  And by the grace of God, men shall know that God is alive, and the living Spirit of God is no dearm."

There is the 'fire of God' in Dr. Lake's words today, and much to learn from them.

Ask the Holy Spirit to give you insight into the 'science of healing'.

SATURDAY WAKE UP CALL - Your Mind Powered Up and Harnessed

    in Spirituality

The Power of Mind is not in our critical analysis or rational thinking. The Power of Mind is in our IMAGINATION.

Neuroplasticity is the ability of the brain to continuously create new neural pathways. When we repeat a skill that we are trying to master, we strengthen the neural networks that represent that action. The same happens physically in the brain whether we perform the action, or simply visualize it—Your brain cannot tell the difference between an action you performed and an action you visualized.

In a Harvard University study, two groups of volunteers were presented with a piece of unfamiliar piano music. One group received the music and a keyboard, and was told to practice. The other group was instructed to just read the music and imagine playing it. When their brain activity was examined, both groups showed expansion in their motor cortex, even though the second group had never touched a keyboard.

Albert Einstein, who is credited with saying that “imagination is more important than knowledge,” used visualization throughout his entire life. Why not take advantage of what we know about brain plasticity and take the time to add visualization as part of your rehearsals of anything you are trying to master, such as delivering a flawless presentation? ~ by Bruna Martinuzzi, President, Clarion Enterprises Ltd.

    Living Fearlessly

    in Self Help

What would change in your life if you chose to live fearlessly? Well in order to begin doing that, we must first understand what fear actually is.

In this episode of I Am Healing Austin and Jo discuss that very subject and include insights into how important fear is at a survival level and how potentially harmful it can be when triggered over a long period by an inaccurate conscious or subconscious perception. They also offer ideas on how to begin to release fear that may be holding you back.

Warning: This programme also features lots of screaming from Jo who - in a recording she made several years ago- faced her (now healed) fear of flying in a very extreme way. A good, if somewhat noisy example of how facing a fear and doing it anyway can sometimes work!!!
