Father Donald E. Mowery is the retired leader of Youth Services globally. He has had a radio show, Talk it Out with Father Don, on WHBQ radio in Memphis, Tennessee, for the past 45 years. This month Joyce Graff appeared on his show. Joyce and Father Don have a great conversation about Powerful Patient and its mission, and also about Youth Services and its mission, highlighting many parallels. In both cases, they work to empower people to work through the issues they cannot change and tackle constructively the things they can change.
Learn more about Father Don. A new book, Spiritual Networking, by Darrell B. Uselton and David Yawn, recounts the history of Youth Services in Memphis and worldwide.
Networking these days is becoming more and more important for career related advice. It can be done at any age, any time. Networking should start with an elevator speech. The idea of an “elevator speech” is to have a prepared presentation that grabs attention and says a lot in a few words. What are you going to be saying? By telling your core message, you will be marketing yourself in a way that will make people want to know more about you.
If you want to network with people in a specific field, go to events where you think they’ll be – make your own luck. Opportunities to network may arise from planned events or spontaneously at on- and off-campus functions.
This week on The Networking Diva Hour my co-host will be Kathleen Saltmarsh-Voss, owner of Sip And Splatter – Social Art-working with a Heart. Every Sip and Splatter painting party is a fundraiser that raises money for worthy causes and 30% of the proceeds goes directly to your chosen charity! Kathleen also host a LADIES NIGHT NETWORKING with Valerie Crisp from Waddel & Reed, a free event that allows up to 30 business women to talk for about 4 minutes each about their businesses

Let's face it music in and of itself is a powerful influence in todays culture as well as the Church. Its just another way for Satan to get to us. And these influences can fit into the categories of pure or impure, for good or bad. There is an influence in the words of the music we listen to today, and we must be sober and vigilent as to what we allow in our minds. There is a number of secular songs, literature and balads that convey many negative and degrading meanings that are filled with sexual talk, degrading women/men, and encourages you to go with your feelings no matter what. The christian music industry also must be extremely careful as to the messages and beats it creates> Thankfully though we have God's holy word to help us know and discern what should go between our ears. Romans 12:2 says" Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." It seems to imply that we must seek a transformation of mind and heart each day and rid ourselves of the temptation to "go with the flow" even with what we choose to listen or relax to. How can we have a stronger desire God and his word in this culture today? What can we do to be more proactive in understanding the influence of music so it does not pollute who we are in Christ? How can we speak in love to other believers about this subject?

11 Rules to Follow for Powerful Presentations is our topic on The Core Business Show with Tim Jacquet. Though it’s important to be credible and knowledgeable, speakers must also be interesting, exciting and motivating. From an introduction that will capture your audience’s attention to an ending that will leave them wanting more, it’s important to structure your speech and perfect your delivery. Be energized by what your present and learn to give take-aways on very practical things about writing and how to use writing talent to build and share stories that inspire people to act on behalf of any organization. Great balance of strategic/big thinking and practical. This show is sponsored by Apple Capital Group, Inc. #applecapital #thecorebusiness
