    Welcome to Positively Autistic: Sarah's Autism Chat, presented by Sarah Scrimshaw and Joe Westlake. We are back with the first show of the New Year! We will be live at 9:30pm BST, 4:30pm EST and 1:30pm PST.


    On the show we will be joined by the very talented singer, Colin Brennan and his father. Colin, 13, is on the Autism Spectrum and lives in Canada. You may have heard us play Colin's wonderful music in which he has sent us over time to play on our radio shows. Colin has been invited back to attend Autism's Got Talent in London in May. Therefore, the show is going to be all about the fundraising we are doing to help Colin's dream come true. Our lovely team member and radio show host Marilyn Francis will be joining us too to read some of her great poetry.

    This week Jeanette talks all things research with Sylvia Rodger, Director of Research and Education at the Autism Coperative Research Centre (CRC). The CRC is doing a load of valuable research and drawing on the wisdom, experience and expertise of Autistic adults - some of whom are also researchers.  


    Sylvia Rodger is an occupational therapist with more than 30 years’ experience working in clinical practice and higher educational settings. She was head of occupational therapy at The University of Queensland from 2001-2012. In 2013 she became Director of Research and Education at the Autism CRC, where she oversees the research strategy for the CRC and the educational programs to capacity build PhD scholars, researchers and adults on the spectrum in peer research. She is passionate about enabling the next generation of researchers and ensuring the voices of those on the spectrum are heard in relation to research direction, engagement, and its operationalisation. She is a mother of two adult children and enjoys yoga, pilates, walking, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

    The guests: Wenn Lawson is an Autistic author, academic, and amazing advocate. Wenn has written a number of books, including 'Sex, Sexuality and the Autism Spectrum', 'Friendships - The Aspie Way', the autobiography, 'Life Behind Glass' as well as many others. Wenn and Jeanette were both featured in the documentary 'Alone in a Crowded Room' and he speaks at conferences around the world.

    Positively Autistic: Sarah's Autism Chat

    We have a very exciting show lined up for you this week. On the show, we will be talking to Dani Bowman, 20, who is on the Autism Spectrum and founded her own animation company, Powerlight Animation Studios at the age of just 11. Today, Dani is still championing her wonderful abilities and skills with animation. We will also be talking to Dani’s friends, Keaton Bicknell, who is also on the spectrum and has worked on a recent animation short with Dani called ‘The Adventures of Pelican Pete: A Bird is Born’. We also have Rachel Barcellona on the show. Rachel is also on the spectrum and has been a pageant in Florida for the past few years. Adam Ricketts, a friend of Rachel’s, will also be on the show talking all about the short film clip ‘Ability’ that he has worked on with Rachel. They have all attended The World Arts Film Festival in Jacksonville, Florida over the past weekend, so we will be hearing all about this and what it involves, too. We also have a colleague and close friend joining us on the show, Marilyn Ann Francis.

    This is a new programme within Jeanette's Autism Show - the Joel, Tori and Jeanette Hour. This will be a monthly show where Autism self-advocates Joel Wilson and Tori Haar join Jeanette to have a conversation about all things Autism. Joel Wilson is a young Autistic researcher and advocate based in Pertth, Western Australia. Joel travels around Australia sharing his insights around Autism. He speaks at conferneces and is a young leader in the Autism community. Tori Haar is an advocate and professional who lives in Canberra, Australia. Tori is a blogger and public speaker who is also a leader in the Autism community. Joe, Tori and Jeanette are also good freinds who have a habit of meeting up at Autism conferences and events.
