She was on Coast to Coast last month. Tonight, Washington Times staff writer Cheryl K. Chumley joins us.
WND Books has a hot new title out. It’s called “Police State USA: How Orwell’s Nightmare Is Becoming Our Reality” by Washington Times staff writer Cheryl K. Chumley. It’s got a foreword by Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas.
She’s a well-spoken expert on the subject of how we are losing America to a brave new world of surveillance, drones, warrantless searches and the militarization of local, state and national governments, as well as government intrusion into all facets of public education (i.e. Michelle Obama and school lunches).
This is scary stuff, but unfortunately it’s all real and well-documented. Stories published on a daily basis makes this topic timely and even newsworthy.
Washington Times news writer, Cheryl Chumley visits “The REALLY, Real, Deal” with the scoop on her new book, Police State USA. In five years we might really start to wonder what happened to America. In 10 years, kids may not know the same America of their parent’s youth. And, in 25 years we just won't recognize America at all; with the Constitution a relic and tossed on the same trash pile as the Bible. The notion of God-given rights is currently being replaced by government control, and privacy rights are crumbling along with Fourth Amendment guarantees that protect us from warrantless searches of home, possessions, and self. For release on May 27 by WND Books, Cheryl K. Chumley's timely book, Police State USA: How Orwell's Nightmare is Becoming Our Reality, makes the clear case that we now live in a total surveillance society that is far more frightening than the one in George Orwell’s 1984. A news writer for The Washington Times, Cheryl was part of the start-up team for The Washington Times' digital aggregation product, Times247. She's also a 2008-2009 Robert Novak journalism fellow with The Phillips Foundation. So, Join the conversation with Cheryl and “Brother Craig” about Police State USA and share it with a friend.
A police state is a state in which the government exercises rigid and repressive controls over the social, economic, and political life of the population. A police state typically exhibits elements of totalitarianism and social control, and there is usually little or no distinction between the law and the exercise of political power by the executive.
The inhabitants of a police state experience restrictions on their mobility, and on their freedom to express or communicate political or other views, which are subject to police monitoring or enforcement. Political control may be exerted by means of a secret police force which operates outside the boundaries normally imposed by a constitutional state
With the growing conflicts in Ferguson over the death of Michael Brown, as well as the document released this week by the Department of the Army titled “Civil Disturbances,” we will be discussing the growing Police State within America that is starting to resemble Martial Law.
Despite the lack of confirmation of details regarding the death of Michael Brown, we have seen clashes every single night between protesters and police within Ferguson Missouri. We have seen wrong doing on both sides – there have been demonstrators reportedly throwing Molotov cocktails. There has been reports of gunfire coming from the crowd. The police department has deployed tear gas nightly. They have been using LRAD Sound Cannons, shooting flash grenades and rubber bullets and the media. One officer has been caught on video cursing at peaceful demonstrators and threatening to kill them.
We will also be attending the National Day of Rage in Dallas Texas as locals in North Texas gather to show their support for the demonstrators in Ferguson. We will be collecting sound bytes to play during our show as well.
What is becoming of the Land of the Free?
Join us as we discuss Police State America.
Events in Ferguson opened a lot of eyes to the fact that much of America is becoming a police state, with militarized police at that. The overwhelming response to nonviolent protests of the apparent execution of a young man by police was frightening to many people who always believed that if they weren't doing anything wrong, they had nothing to fear from the police.
How did the police get militarized? Will Congress do anything about it in the aftermath of Ferguson? Is it possible that the war on terror is an excuse for preparing for domestic unrest in the face of what many are predicting will be a complete collapse of the Ponzi scheme that the American and global financial system has become?
I address these and other questions with our resident political and economic expert Karl Eysenbach in this episode of Taking Back America. Eysenbach is a frequent guest on this show and blogs at Old New Lefty.
This show will be rebroadcast on September 13 at 9 AM PST/ 12 PM EST on the Star Com Radio network.
