Mary E. Weems, Ph.D. is a poet, playwright, author, performer, and imagination-intellect theorist. She is a former Poet Laureate of Cleveland Heights (April 2007 – April 2009) and the first African American.
Dr. Weems is the author and/or co-editor of Cleveland Poetry Scenes: A Panorama & Anthology, Poetry Power , her educational text Public Education and the Imagination-Intellect: I Speak from the Wound in My Mouth, to name a few.
Dr.Weems work has appeared in numerous anthologies, most recently Go, Tell Michelle: African American Women Write to the New First Lady , Boomer Girls, and Spirit and Flame: An Anthology of African American Poetry.
Dr. Weems won the Wick Chapbook Award for her collection white in 1996, and in 1997 her playAnother Way to Dance won the Chilcote award for The Most Innovative Play by an Ohio Playwright. Her most recent chapbook Tampon Class, is in its second printing.
Her play Closure is about the foreclosure crises told from the perspective of the objects left behind opened the season at Karamu, the oldest theater in the United States to showcase the work of African American playwrights, and her new workTruth Out which explores what happens when Sojourner Truth returns to the Unitarian Stone Church where she gave her “Ain’t I a Woman” speech in 1851, which is now the Department of Jobs and Family Services, just had a dramatic reading at the Cleveland Playhouse as part of its FusionFest.

S.E. Schlosser is the author of the Spooky Series by Globe Pequot Press, as well as the Ghost Stories deck by Random House. She has been telling stories since she was a child, when games of "let's pretend" quickly built themselves into full-length tales acted out with friends. A graduate of both Houghton College and the Institute of Children's Literature, Sandy received her MLS from Rutgers University while working as a full-time music teacher and a freelance author. Sandy is the webmaster and writer of an award-winning, internationally-known web site called American Folklore that features retellings of folktales from each state. This site was created as part of a graduate study at Rutgers the State University of New Jersey in October 1997 and is used daily by teachers throughout the world in lesson plans for students of all levels. Stories from the site have also been used in college text books and in Masters level programs.
D.S. Scott returns to our show with several new Dark Poems! When D. S. Scott was fourteen, a friend suggested he write a short story. He began writing and immediately took an interest in it. A couple weeks later he finished and was surprised to find how much he enjoyed writing it. In the years since, Scott has written in several genres but has found a particular interest in horror and suspense. He enjoys writing poetry, short stories and has started on a novel. Finding writing to be a creative outlet, he kept with it and followed his goal to publish. “He Comes In Many Forms” is D. S. Scott’s first book and collection of dark poetry. Author Rasheemah known to the literary world as Real Divas was born in raised in the mean streets of Newark, NJ. She has witness how grimey the street can be so she decided to put here pen and pad to work. Rasheemah is a mother of two and a college graduate. Monique ‘Being True’ Thomas is a mother, partner and “life author” who has been embracing her love of words since adolescence. She is a native New Yorker to the bone and will remain in the city that never sleeps until her time on the earth is finished. She is a former teen journalist who wrote several articles about her time in the foster care system for Represent,formally known as Foster Care Youth United, a nationally published youth magazine for teens in the system. Monique has lent her voice to the spoken word circuit as well as Blog Talk radio when she joined the ladies of Lesbian Memoirs and other internet radio shows. Her sensual, highly erotic and thought provoking poetry has been well received by many. She has also been featured in anthologies that were published by Lesbian memoirs.
In 2012 Monique decided to finally fulfill l her dream of sharing her work with the world by self-publishing her first short story and poetry collection in her ‘Forever Tangled’ series. The following year she released not only a follow up to her short story collection but also three novellas, ‘Love Relived’, ‘In its Rawest Form’, and ‘Feeling for the wall’. Each book touched on Monique’s feelings of romance and the realness of the presence of drama and the fight it takes to maintain a true love. Her latest book 'Surrender' is the first book of Two Hearts and a romance series. She is currently working on the second book of the series that will have the upcoming Christmas season as its backdrop.
