What Matters: When You Dare to Choose with Paul Sherman & David Garten

    in Self Help

Paul's a corporate refugee, David a serial entrepreneur. They created "What Matters" to eradicate needless suffering in the world.

Life can become almost intolerably complex and demanding. Working, earning, parenting, teaming, dealing with health issues—even playing and enjoying time with friends—can come to seem like an endless task list with little fulfillment and way too much stress. At best, we go on auto-pilot, just putting our heads down and plowing forward as best we can through each day’s demands. At worst, we feel desperate, depressed, anxious, and alone. Yikes, we’re bumming ourselves out writing this! Sadly, we’ve been there. That's what has led us to create “What Matters?!”…born of our own needless suffering.

What Matters?! is a powerful antidote and preventative tool. At its heart is a set of five practices and mindset that help people engage in regular self-reflection, have open and courageous conversations, explore previously invisible options, and dare to make powerful, life-affirming choices. When you focus on What Matters?! you suddenly realize how much DOESN’T matter. Choices for where to focus time/resources and where to jettison thoughts, behaviors and yes even people who weigh you down become a natural part of your daily routine. When we dare to choose to do what matters, we improve well-being, gain clarity that guides us forward, decrease stress, and become more effective. Simple? Yes. Profound? We think you'll agree.

The Actions of a Spirit-Filled King and You (1 Samuel 11)

    in Christianity

When trouble comes, the newly anointed king of Israel had been plowing oxen. But then things change, and he steps into his role as king of Israel.

1 Samuel 11:6-7New Living Translation (NLT)

6 Then the Spirit of God came powerfully upon Saul, and he became very angry. 7 He took two oxen and cut them into pieces and sent the messengers to carry them throughout Israel with this message: “This is what will happen to the oxen of anyone who refuses to follow Saul and Samuel into battle!” And the Lord made the people afraid of Saul’s anger, and all of them came out together as one.

Sticking a Thumb in the Eye of Anti-Christ Archies

    in Religion

What did the archies do when they stumbled on the Ark, they tried to burn it. What did these do when tens of thousands of slate tablets and other artifacts were discovered by farmers plowing their fields, digging cellars, etc at the turn of the century, they cry "forgery" to murder against the light, of course.

    THE CONTROVERSY

    Chapter II

One crisp Spring morning in 1874, a farmer newly arrived from the East, clearing timber nearby the village of Crystal, in central Michigan northwest of Detroit, unearthed a beautifully worked piece of black slate in the form of a shuttle covered with curious markings adjacent to a drawing of a man's head wearing queerly fashioned head gear (Fig. 1). Within the course of the next few months, additional unexplainable pieces came to light in an area between the villages of Crystal, St. Louis and Edmore-a copper stiletto, a small clay box and a large slate tablet-each bearing undecipherable markings-together with some strange looking cryptic characters.

Wonderment stirred the community. Never suspecting that any large group, other than Indians, had preceded them on this land tucked away in the heart of Michigan, farmers in Montcalm and Gratiot Counties stood in profound amazement at this assortment of copper tools, pictured tablets, spear-points and bracelets now spread before them. How could such unrecognizable material come to have been buried in this sparsely populated farming community? Who, they asked, might have buried them? Were they remains of a race long since wiped out? Certain it was that human beings once occupied this land-here was tangible evidence made by human hands. Markings unmistakably bespoke a writing. No one could read it. Wonderment spread as a bewildered country-side found itself the center of nation-wide attention. Curiosity-seekers flocked to the tiny village.

Everyone offered suggestions. The Mystic Symbol by Henrietta Mertz; 1933.

Dissecting the Job Description as the CEO of Me, Inc.

    in Jobs

There is probably nothing more tedious than plowing through a long-winded job description to find out if a particular job is a good fit for you.  But as CEOs managing a business, we know they are crucial to our success. The job description is your first clue as to whether a particular position is a good fit for you or not.  If you can adequately match your skills to those required in a particular job description, then this document becomes the “trigger” for developing a value proposition. In fact, you won’t be able to create a value proposition without one.
