After a few attempts this week, the Bedford & Sullivan podcast finally gets the 57th episode off the ground. On this episode, Carl Erskine and I immerse ourselves talk of pitching.
Carl and I have discussed many a things about Brooklyn and the Dodgers over our many episodes on air. We haven't, however, devoted an entire episode to the art of pitching, which I certainly believe to be a conversation worth having when digging deep into the detail of what this television show could be. What better way than to discuss the artform with an all-time great such as Carl Erskine? We'll dig deep into his philosophy, how he altered it from batter to batter, and what he finds to be the biggest difference from the era he pitched in to the era we currently live in.
So, join us at 9am ET for the latest edition of the Bedford & Sullivan podcast!
Franklin, Dan and Scott discuss:
The team’s recent pitching, and especially relief struggles
Possibly trading a starter for bullpen help
The resurgence of Jason Heyward

The San Francisco Giants win Game 7 of the World Series, carried by World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner, who pitched a masterful five innings of relief and completed the single greatest pitching performance in a World Series. We'll cover the Giants' incredible run to a World Series, an unlikely run coming in as a Wild Card team that started thier postseason on the Road at Pittsburgh, and finished it with a high popup to the red-hot hitting Pablo Sandoval at 3rd Base. The Royals' run to the World Series was also a great story, with standout relievers Herrera, Davis, and Holland, plus their exciting outfield of Aoki, Cain, and Gordon, along with their stars Butler, Hosmer, and Moustakas. Ned Yost got the team a long way, but we'll cover where things may have erred for Kansas City. PLUS The Kids Club returns for podcast football picks, and we'll cover the College Football Playoff Committee's top four selections plus the picks from the NCAA and NFL.

With each team winning two games, we're down to a best-of-three championship series. Game 5 is pivotal for both teams; however, it's the final stand at home for the Giants. Rest assured, they'll be aiming to continue riding their Game 4 momentum. The Royals, on the other hand, need to bounce back in a big way to quickly stop the bleeding. Both of these clubs have now gone through their entire pitching rotations. Starters Madison Bumgarner and James Shields will take the mound for the second time in this series, and they'll have their work cut out for them against lineups that combined for 28 hits Saturday evening. the Bleacherreport
The takeaway here isn’t how things can go so wrong as much as it is the Royals’ remarkable ability to keep things so right over the last month.
“Most nights we do a pretty good job doing it,” Yost says. “It just didn’t work tonight.”The Royals are two wins from a world championship because they’ve kept the trains running on time. Losing game four is more of a reminder of the infrastructure they need in place to celebrate. Sam Mellinge Kansas Star
With apologies to the stats crowd, an all-wild-card World Series has to have an element of pluck. Who outgrinds whom? Were it completely about talent, these two teams would have won their divisions, no?With their bid for another championship slipping from their grasp in Game 4 Saturday night, the Giants channelled whatever fortitude they could muster and tied the World Series at two wins apiece when they rallied from three runs down and steamrolled the Royals 11-4.
