Albert Jack, PHANTOM HITCHHIKERS & OTHER URBAN LEGENDS

    in Paranormal

Where do urban legends, conspiracy theories, and old wives’ tales originate, and are any of them true? Have you heard the one about Walt Disney's frozen body? Does Coca-Cola own Santa Claus? Do alligators live in NYC sewers? More than just a collection of folklore, PHANTOM HITCHHIKERS & OTHER URBAN LEGENDS is also a detective story, exploring the real events behind modern myths, proving that truth is often stranger than fiction. English writer and historian Albert Jack became a publishing phenomenon in 2004 when his first book Red Herrings and White Elephants, which explored the origins of well-known phrases in the English language, became a huge international best-seller, staying in the top ten of the UK Sunday Times best-seller list for sixteen months.
His follow up book Shaggy Dogs and Black Sheep was also a best seller and has sold over 150,000 copies since publication in October 2005. It became Penguin Book's Christmas best-seller - he has now published 12 books in the U.S.
Fascinated by discovering the truth behind the world's great stories, Jack has become an expert in explaining the unexplained. The success of his books has a lot to do with Albert's invention of what he calls the "ten minute read," enabling readers to open his books at any point and be fully entertained for ten minutes at a time before "going off to do something more productive with their time."
Currently hosting a series of Writer's Workshops in England and South Africa, Albert has plans for another ten hard backs that look set to continue his success for many years to come.

Collectors Circle What Does It Mean to Exhibit in Temporary Installation Spaces

    in Visual Arts

Lavon N. Pettis owner of Global Resources ID, speaks about maintaining close collaborations within the "Collectors Circle". Her capital venture took her to the outskirts of the Miami Art Basel in 2015, to KROMA Art Space in Coconut Grove, and to the Black Archives Historic Lyric Theater Cultural Arts Complex collaborating with the Urban Art Collective  part of a Miami Art Week. The festival, dubbed Art Miami, is an outgrowth of Art Basel, a premier annual art exhibition that takes place in the Miami Beach Convention Center.

The Phantom Gallery collaborated with network artists and galleries. Over 200 works representing 24 artists, the art was exhibited from November 22, through January 10th, 2016.

Today’s conversation will focus on how important it is to maintain close collaboration with our partners, who share the common aspiration of creating a global platform for the exchange of ideas that drive the art world forward. Lavon N. Pettis of Global Resources Innovative Development, a project management consultant that finds solutions, strategies, and support in the development of art initiatives.

Partnerships are essential for the support of cultural events. The longevity of our relationships are indicative of how focused and successful Phantom Gallery Chicago Network is in supporting our partners in achieving their goals.

Project logistics held surprises as well. One of the unexpected challenges cited by organizers was the degree to which coordinating projects across multiple partners created enormous complexities.

What does it mean to exhibit in Temporary Installation Spaces? Unanticipated Impacts? How important is brand association and amplification?

Marissa Rooney’s daughter, Brooke, has been missing for days. Her roommate hasn’t seen her since that night in the bar. Standing in the middle of her daughter’s dorm room with a half-used vial of insulin clenched in her hand, Marissa comes to the terrifying realization that if she has Brooke’s insulin, it means that Brooke does not.

The missing person’s investigation takes a sudden and deadly turn when the police discover the body of another college student who went missing a week before Brooke. Desperate to find her daughter, Marissa fears time is running out.

But she isn’t alone in her terror. A phantom from Marissa’s past is lurking in the shadows, waiting in the night, and holding her family captive… In the dark.
