Roman Catholicism: Purgatory, Penance and Justification by Faith

    in Christianity

The Christian stands upon the foundation of Grace, "If the Son will make you free, you are free indeed." This is Justification by Faith.

But what does Catholicism teach? Was the death of Jesus enough to save us? Do we still need works? Walter Martin takes a look at the Catholic Catechism in this exploration of the doctrine of Purgatory and the promise of Salvation through Jesus Christ alone...on Night Watch.

    Stars Clap Books over Bullys

    in Education

Join us each Wendsday as we bring back the joy of reading a book- Our Current Book is Because of the Moon by C.J. Cutayne

Obedience is for dogs,” spouts Jay Roberts, a mischievous teen with a wicked sense of humor. Arrested for his involvement in a chop shop, Jay has two choices: go to juvenile detention or move to the impoverished Indian reservation his mother shunned fourteen years ago where his estranged grandfather will oversee Jay’s penance. Either way he won't enjoy the fruits of his latest prank "Rat-Day".

Jay doesn’t belong in the run-down village and vows to return to the city when his sentence over, if not sooner. He resents his frequently absent mother for making him move three weeks before school is over. A school where everyone calls him "Apple" for some reason. Jay goes through the motions of his community service while planning his escape. His plan to stop the school bully will either win him the respect of his peers or turn him into "apple sauce".

Keeping everyone at arms length, Jay watches with indifference as family by family, the people move away. After thousands of years on their ancestral land the villagers have given up hope of survival. Gradually Jay learns to appreciate his Grampa and the quirky tribe members. When Grampa points to Orion's belt, in the sky, Jay asks "If his belt fell down would we see a full moon?" and the two click.

Jay devises a plan to keep the village together protecting the history and tradition he is inherently a part of. When the plan threatens to fall apart can Jay reach out to the unreliable village alcoholic to pull them through?

Author William Turner Debuts Murder In Our Midst

    in Books

William Turner spent his formative years in New England. He was educated in the private, parochial school system, and is presently retired from State Service (State of California), as a Supervisor.

He has one son (Ontario), and three grandchildren. His grandson is serving in the United States Air Force. His daugher in law Bridgette, is a practicing Pediatrician. William has apsired, so long ago, to be a priest, but felt at the time, he had not been exposed enough to life to walk away and close the monastery door. His subsequent exposure to life sullied him beyond any aspiration to the priesthood.

William now lives in Lancaster, California, spending much of his time doing penance, reflecting on his countless errors in judgment. William's penchant for writing mysteries stems from his exposure to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's stories and those of Agatha Christie. He mentor was Sister Anges Bernard - his high school English teacher.

Deepertruth: The Virgin Mary Reported To Appear At Heede Germany 1937

    in Religion

The reported message of Heede is very similar to that of Fatima. Our Lady appears to have said little. She appeared to the girls with the Divine Child in her arms, smiled at them and was content to have them enraptured with the beauty of the Divine presence.
When Our Lord -- as a grown man -- appeared to one of the seers, Greta Gansforth, He had a solemn and sad warning to give her.
"Men did not listen to My Most Holy Mother when She appeared to them at Fatima and admonished them to do penance. Now I Myself am coming at the last hour to warn and admonish mankind! The times are very serious! Men should at last do penance, turn away from their sins and pray, pray much in order that the wrath of God may be mitigated! Particularly the Holy Rosary should be prayed very often! The Rosary is very powerful with God! Worldly pleasures and amusements should be restricted."
"Men do not listen to My Voice, they harden their hearts, they resist My grace, they do not wish to have anything to do with My Mercy, My Love, My merits; mankind is worse than before the deluge. Mankind is suffocating in sin. Hatred and greed rule their hearts. This is the work of the Devil. They live in great darkness . . ."
"Through the wounds that bleed now, mercy will again gain victory over justice. My faithful souls should not be asleep now like the disciples on Mt. Olivet. They should pray without ceasing and gain all they can for themselves and for others."

Lee Gutkind’s Creative Nonfiction Law and Order Yellow Test Writers’ Prompt

    in Writing

In May, nearly 200 folks descended on the historic city of Pittsburgh to rub writing elbows with authors, essayists, journalists, and editors at the 2015 Creative Nonfiction Writers’ Conference.

Maybe you were there. Maybe you weren’t. If you find yourself in the latter, shame on you. Your penance is to listen to this great episode of Behind the Prose featuring an amazing structure analogy by the “Godfather of Creative Nonfiction” Lee Gutkind. If you’ve ever struggled with how to pull together the narrative in a nonfiction piece, this excerpt of his opening presentation has got your name all over it.

Plus, some folks in Michigan are giving away houses to writers. The innovative and perhaps pioneering initiative by Write A House takes the concept of a writers’ residency quite literally.

And of course, I’ve got the check in for you and my web find of the week.

From Jailer To Jailed To Knight Of Liberty - The Incredible Life of Barry Cooper

    in Spirituality

Barry Cooper was once considered one of America’s top drug agents who worked joint operations with the ATF, DEA, FBI, U.S. Military and Border Patrol. He received specialized training in narcotics interdiction methods such as undercover operations, reversal operations, search warrants, K-9’s and highway interdiction. In 2006, Barry was the first to blow the whistle on drug dog false alerts.

Barry is currently a law lecturer, criminal defense expert witness and filmmaker who operates the popular website, NeverGetBusted.com. Seven years ago, as a form of penance, he used his experience as a former drug agent to produce a series of instructional videos titled, NeverGetBusted.com, that teaches citizens how to avoid being arrested for marijuana crimes. Flanking NeverGetBusted.com, he produced an Internet reality show called, KopBusters, where he brought attention to a mother of two illegally incarcerated after police planted drugs in her car. The sting was designed to embarrass the police and trick them into raiding a trap house rigged with hidden cameras and a fake marijuana grow room. Although he and his family suffered severe government retaliation for the operation, the sting was a success because Yolanda Madden was released from federal prison and remains free today.

At the time, Barry’s critics viewed his style of activism as a personal attack against god, children and the police. Now, most see NeverGetBusted.com and KopBusters as a clever humanitarian operation designed to protect citizens from a country who now holds the all time world record for the number of citizens it incarcerates.

On behalf of the gang at Candid Frank Live CFL Talk a deepest and sincere thank you for the immediate response requesting inclusion as cohosts on our show. I was tickled pink to get a few die hard Lady CFL Fans wishing to make a contribution, assisting me in feeling less of a troglodyte today. Living with 5 women and female cat can cast self-doubt in my opinion as man interacting with women daily outside the home. WE NEED female voices on the Program. Dozens of legitimate intelligent talented people have asked to join the team of CFL Fancasters on our Show. I make this promise to all of you, "none of us are here, will in any way reject ANYONE!". I will say this, the show will make that decision for some. Make me a promise though, don't let a decision be made by yourself or others, based on being unfair to you, please. This show has been therapy for me as has the CFL, CFLPA, CFL Alumni and all of their members. These are Wonderful big hearted group of people. Losing my ability to do what I worked hard at, and for over 50 years was a inexpiable disaster. One of my Loves of my Life, my career evaporated suddenly and painfully. Recovering is difficult, but thanks to people whose kindness, sympathy and understanding, or have like issues have helped by assisting me in finding my way towards happiness and contentment. Yes there are and have been a much smaller group of pompous judgmental people who seem to only find happiness in the misery of others. Not to mention those who don't care about anyone, even them.
