Roman Catholicism: Purgatory, Penance and Justification by Faith

    in Christianity

The Christian stands upon the foundation of Grace, "If the Son will make you free, you are free indeed." This is Justification by Faith.

But what does Catholicism teach? Was the death of Jesus enough to save us? Do we still need works? Walter Martin takes a look at the Catholic Catechism in this exploration of the doctrine of Purgatory and the promise of Salvation through Jesus Christ alone...on Night Watch.

Deepertruth: The History Of Lent, and The Sign Of The Cross

    in Religion

One of the most visible signs that identify Catholics together as a group is “The Sign Of The Cross” which depicts the cross as a sign and a prayer of the Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

In Baptism, we are given a mark sealed by the Trinity. Jesus instructs the Church to Baptize the nations in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. The Sign of the Cross reflects this mark given to us at our Baptism. Just as in the time of Ezekiel, we have a choice to follow God or follow the way of the world.

The book of Revelation also speaks of another mark on the forehead of those who reject God. We definitely do not want this mark! Through the Sacraments, we are made clean so that before the Lord, we are made innocent (Rev 14:4-5). Just as it was in the day of Ezekiel, we have a mark that is like the original “X” and it is made into a “+”.

Deepertruth: Eucharistic Miracle of Cimballa, Spain, 1370 (7:00 P.M Central)

    in Religion

During the celebration of Holy Mass on Sunday, after having pronounced the words of the consecration, Don Tommaso  saw Blood flowing from the Host which had transformed into flesh; so much that the altar-linens were saturated.

The penitent priest began to weep from remorse. The faithful, seeing how he was troubled, quickly looked to the altar and saw the miracle. The relic was then taken in procession and the news spread everywhere. There were many miracles attributed to the “Most Holy Doubtful Mystery” and since then has always been a great object of devotion on the part of the faithful. The episode re-enforced the wavering faith of the priest who penitently retired to a monastery, dedicating himself to a life of penance and prayer. Every year on the 12th of September, the memory of the miracle in the parish church is celebrated where, even now, the relic of the corporal soaked in the Blood is kept.

The relic of the altar linen soaked in the Precious Blood has been exposed on the 12th of September every year; the anniversary of the feast of the miracle of the Precious Blood.

IndieReview Behind The Scenes with Author William Turner (Maverick Moments)

    in Entertainment

~~Hello Everyone! My name is Michelle Cornwell Jordan, I am your host!

~~The definition of Maverick is an unorthodox or independent-minded person.

Also called a TrailBlazer! I have the pleasure of chatting with one of these "Thinking Outside The Box Artists"  tonight  Author William Turner.

William Turner  spent his formative years in New England. He was educated in the private, parochial school system, and is presently retired from State service (State of California), as a supervisor. He has one son (Ontonio), and three grandchildren. His grandson is serving in the United States Air Force. His daughter-in-law, Bridgette, is a practicing pediatrician. William had aspired–so long ago–to be a priest, but felt at the time he had not been exposed enough to life to walk away and close the monastery door. His subsequent exposure to life sullied him beyond any aspiration to the priesthood. William now lives in Lancaster, California, spending much of his time doing penance, reflecting on his countless errors in judgment. William’s penchant for writing mysteries stems from his exposure to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories and those of Agatha Christie. His mentor was Sister Agnes Bernard–his high school English teacher.

    Blessed Matthew Rossi

    in Religion

Rebroadcast of the long running radio program, "The Ave Maria Hour", a presentation of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement. www.AtonementFriars.org

Matthew Rossi of the well known Orsini family was a knight of extraordinary piety and virtue. Once as St. Francis of Assisi was traveling through Rome, Matthew invited Francis to visit his palace in Rome and teach him how to save his soul. St. Francis’ preaching on the vanity of the world was so impressive that Mathew fell at his feet and humbly begged for admission to the Third Order to live out his life in penance. Many noble men and women soon followed his example.

During a later visit to Rome, St. Francis held Matthew’s young son, John Cajetan and declared: “This boy will at some future time be a religious not in garb but in sentiment; he will be a mighty ruler and great protector of our order.” The prophecy was fulfilled. John Cajetan became a priest, cardinal protector of the Franciscan Order and in the year of 1277 he ascended the papal throne as Nicholas III.

Deepertruth: John Carpenter's The Journey With Mary To The Philippines

    in Religion

1948 Our Blessed Mother appeared 19 times to a novice in the Carmelite order in Lipa City, Philippines. Our Lady first appeared to the novice, Teresita Castillo, in August, when she was in her cell.

While Teresita was praying in the convent garden on September 12, suddenly a vine began to shake. Our Lady appeared to the seer and requested that she kiss the earth and return to the same spot for fifteen consecutive days. When Our Lady appeared, She was on a cloud, dressed in white, hands clasped, and a golden Rosary hanging from Her right hand. Her dress was very white, very simple, and had a narrow belt tied around Her. She was radiant with beauty.

Our Lady requested the vine to be blessed, and also requested that a statue was to be placed at the site of the apparition. These were all accomplished.

During the apparitions in 1948, Our Lady stressed humility, penance, prayers for the clergy and the Pope, and to pray the Rosary. Teresita reported that there was one secret for herself, one for the Carmel convent in Lipa City, one for China, and also one for the entire world.

Our Lady requested that a Mass be held on the 12th day of every month. Before She departed for the last time, the Blessed Virgin identified Herself as:

    Father William Corby, Chaplain

    in Religion

Rebroadcast of the long running radio program, "The Ave Maria Hour", a presentation of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement. www.AtonementFriars.org

Father William Corby, Chaplain – On the hot afternoon of July 2, 1863, the Union Army's Irish Brigade, a unit composed predominantly of Catholic immigrants, waited for the order to go into action. It was the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg, a three-day conflagration that saw over 50,000 casualties between both sides. Just before the Irish Brigade went into the fight, its chaplain, Father William Corby, climbed up onto a boulder to give the men general absolution from their sins. Since there was no time for individual confession, he talked briefly about patriotism, bravery, and penance before pronouncing the formula. About 320 of the brigade's 530 men fell in the wheat field that day, but the tide was turning in favor of the Union.
