Mitch Hescox -Peak Oil And The Future of Clean Energy

    in Energy

In 1956, Geoscientist, Marion King Hubbert predicted that, for any given geographical area, from an individual oil field to the planet as a whole, the rate of petroleum production of the reserve over time would resemble a bell curve. Based on his theory, he presented a paper to the 1956 meeting of the American Petroleum Institute in San Antonio, Texas, which predicted that overall petroleum production would peak in the United States between the late 1960s and the early 1970s.
While Dr. Hubbert’s analysis may have missed the mark in terms of date, one only has to look at the price at the gas pump to see that the days of cheap petroleum are gone.   In the past, one gallon of oil produced 100 gallons. Now production efficiencies cost 1 gallon per 3 gallons in new sources like tar sands.  These costs do not include the public health impacts or environmental degradation further inflating fossil fuels actual costs to society. With American fossil fuel companies spending only 0.42% of sales in research and development (the pharmaceutical industry spends 20.5%), the time has now come to push forward and invest in a clean energy future.
Tune in to this segment of The Clean Energy View Radio Show, as host, June Stoyer talks to the Reverend Mitch Hescox about peak oil. The Rev. Mitchell Hescox serves as President/CEO of The Evangelical Environmental Network publisher, Creation Care Magazine. The Evangelical Environmental Network is a ministry dedicated to the care of God’s creation. He has testified before Congress, appeared on CNN, NPR, PRI and numerous radio programs both Christian and secular. He has also been named one of the ten Environmental Religious Saints by Huffington Post. Stay tuned!

Kathy McMahon: Sage Advice & Therapy for Peak Oil Blues

    in Psychology

A lot of people think you're weird or radical if you look at the world of climate events and economic shock around us and see imminent collapse.
Others think you're a negative buzz-kill, in need of some positive thinking, but not on their time.
Enter the Peak Oil Shrink. Kathy McMahon, a clinical psychologist, says that dealing with the anxiety that our civilization has hit a wall and will not recover, is is an essential experience to have. Bearing isolation and rejection from loved ones and family members over those anxieties can be depressing, but does not mean you're mentally ill.
She's not only been through those changes herself, she's turned her practice largely over to coaching and providing therapy for people who are experiencing the triple whammy of anxiety, panic, and rejection because of their view of the furure.
She's recently completed an e-book, “I Can’t Believe You Actually Think That!” - A Couple’s Guide to Finding Common Ground about Peak Oil, Climate Catastrophe, and Economic Hard Times.

She has also set up a web site, peakoilblues.org, which offers ideas and coaching around those issues and how to prepare emotionally for sudden shifts or even complete collapse.
In this 30-min. interview with co-host Daniel Kerbein, McMahon gives some basic advice fon preparing for the future:
Have enjoyable get-togethers with the neighbors, build trust & problem solve with them. Do the same with immediate family. Become "patch o' ground" people, going "radically local" and paying very close attention to the world within a 10-mile radius of our homes, which would be our whole world in a collapse of the global economy.
Kathy McMahon's words of solace and points to ponder, were first aired on KBBF-FM 89.1 Calistoga. KBBF bilingual public radio wlcomes your support. www.kbbf-fm.org

Pathocracy in the Post JFK Era.

    in Politics Progressive

America is number one! Problem is that it’s all in the in the wrong things. We are number one in drug addiction, depression, suicides, diabetes, people in prison, police shooting unarmed civilians, national debt, invading other countries, using weapons of mass-destruction, and the list goes on….  How did the richest country in the world come to be bankrupt and one third of its children growing up in poverty? We can’t afford health care and education but we can spend billions of dollars a day blowing up and occupying entire nations so we can free their people?? How has it come to this?

And both parties are doing it. They are more like a World Wrestling Federation tag team than oppositional parties, and they are on the same side and the American people are in the other corner!

How has this happened and what can we do about it??
