    Health Reform Monday

    in Christianity

Life is a gift of God. Our bodies have been given us to use in God’s service, and He desires that we shall care for and appreciate them. Our bodies must be kept in the best possible condition physically, and under the most spiritual influences.... ML 125.2

A pure, healthy life is most favorable for the perfection of Christian character and for the development of the powers of mind and body. ML 125.3

The law of temperance must control the life of every Christian. God is to be in all our thoughts; His glory is ever to be kept in view. We must break away from every influence that would captivate our thoughts and lead us from God. We are under sacred obligations to God so to govern our bodies and rule our appetites and passions that they will not lead us away from purity and holiness, or take our minds from the work God requires us to do. ML 125.4

Those who serve God in sincerity and truth will be a peculiar people, unlike the world, separate from the world. Their food will be prepared, not to encourage gluttony or gratify a perverted taste, but to secure to themselves the greatest physical strength, and consequently the best mental conditions.... ML 125.5

Our heavenly Father has bestowed upon us the great blessing of health reform, that we may glorify Him by obeying the claims He has upon us.... The harmonious, healthy action of all the powers of body and mind results in happiness; the more elevated and refined the powers, the more pure and unalloyed the happiness.

Pharmacy Podcast Episode 120 One Step Closer to PBM Reform

    in Business

We talk with the president of Pharmacists United for Truth and Transparency - Jason Wallace about the efforts to ensure PBM reform and to preserve choice for our patients and fair-trade for Independent Pharmacy owners.

     About – P.U.T.T.

Pharmacists United for Truth and Transparency is a growing coalition of independent pharmacists and pharmacy owners dedicated to exposing widespread abuse and manipulation by pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs). We are a not for profit organization funded by individual members, not corporations or other special interest groups.

PBMs are remarkably effective at increasing their profits and market shares. The  $29.1 billion merger of Express Scripts and Medco Health Solutions created the largest PBM in the nation – increasing the potential for widespread PBM abuse to an alarming new height.

We created Pharmacists United for Truth and Transparency to expose the PBM myth by illustrating the ways they inflate prescription drug costs. Their greed hurts all Americans by draining the economy and obstructing access to medicine.

    Our coalition is comprised of

“Every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things.”

Every student needs to understand the relation between plain living and high thinking. It rests with us individually to decide whether our lives shall be controlled by the mind or by the body. The youth must, each for himself, make the choice that shapes his life; and no pains should be spared that he may understand the forces with which he has to deal, and the influences which mold character and destiny.

Intemperance is a foe against which all need to be guarded. The rapid increase of this terrible evil should arouse every lover of his race to warfare against it. The practice of giving instruction on temperance topics in the schools is a move in the right direction. Instruction in this line should be given in every school and in every home. The youth and children should understand the effect of alcohol, tobacco, and other like poisons in breaking down the body, beclouding the mind, and sensualizing the soul. It should be made plain that no one who uses these things can long possess the full strength of his physical, mental, or moral faculties.

But in order to reach the root of intemperance we must go deeper than the use of alcohol or tobacco. Idleness, lack of aim, or evil associations, may be the predisposing cause. Often it is found at the home table, in families that account themselves strictly temperate. Anything that disorders digestion, that creates undue mental excitement, or in any way enfeebles the system, disturbing the balance of the mental and the physical powers, weakens the control of the mind over the body, and thus tends toward intemperance. The downfall of many a promising youth might be traced to unnatural appetites created by an unwholesome diet. (Education page 203)

    "HEALTH REFORM MONDAY'S"

    in Christianity

    Oh, how few feel the worth of souls! How few are willing to sacrifice to bring souls to the knowledge of Christ! THERE IS MUCH TALKING, much professed love for perishing souls; BUT TALK IS CHEAP STUFF. It is earnest Christian zeal that is wanted—a zeal that will be manifested by doing something. All must now work for themselves, and when they have Jesus in their hearts they will confess Him to others. No more could a soul who possesses Christ be hindered from confessing Him than could the waters of Niagara be stopped from flowing over the falls. – { Ellen G. White; Maranatha; Pg. 126.4}

Extended Foster Care - Terry Harrak

    in Lifestyle

Terry starts the podcast asking everyone to step back from extended foster care for a moment and to look back at the reason youth came into care to begin with.  She expands on children enter into foster care because they don't have a family or "home," and then relates it to the concept of extended foster care by suggesting that an unlimited number of resources is no good, unless a person isconnected to a family structure or "home."
