Why Can't I Meditate? How to Get Your Mindfulness Practice on Track

    in Spirituality

Why Can't I Meditate? How to get your mindfulness practice on track with Nigel Wellings

Meditation is supposed to be a practice that's relaxing and beneficial...so why is it so hard to commit to? While many people have taken workshops in meditation, a significant number don't maintain their practice for long after the class is finished.

Mindfulness can help us relax and is great for coming to grips with thoughts that make us depressed or anxious, but it can also bring us into a more intimate relationship with ourselves--a prospect that can make some feel uncomfortable. Yes, lots of good things come out of meditation practice, but keeping it up is challenging.

This is where Why Can't I Meditate? comes in. Full of practical ways to help our mindfulness practice flourish, this book also features guidance from a wide spectrum of secular and Buddhist mindfulness teachers, and personal accounts by new meditators on what they find difficult and what helps them overcome those blocks.

Nigel Wellings is a psychoanalytic psychotherapist who has been teaching and writing about the relationship between psychotherapy and Buddhism for the last sixteen years. He has served as a Director of Training at the Centre for Transpersonal Psychology, is a founding member of The Forum for Contemplative Studies and a facilitator on The Bath and Bristol Mindfulness Courses.

Co-Dependency and Addictions with Dr. Maurie Pressman

    in Self Help

Author, Medical Director and Founder of the Pressman Center for Mind/Body Wellness, Clinical Professor Emeritus at Temple Medical School in Psychiatry and Chairman Emeritus of the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Dr. Maurie Pressman will be speaking on this re-broadcast show. His statement on Co-Dependency is this:

"Co-dependency or addiction are outgrowths of the way we work as personalities, and the "cure" arises from knowing the self and calling upon the magnificent power of the soul-within. That is why it is so good and so important to know one’s Self. The next thing is that there are transactions between people under all circumstances, and a dynamic equilibrium is established and maintained, unless some crisis comes along. In the case of co-dependency we mean that there is a transaction between partners in which one personality is adjusted to the other – and maintains the pattern of the other for good or bad. In the case of addiction it is for the not-so-good as far as society is concerned, for it leads to a debilitation on the part of the addict both by the addicting drug and  the withering of personal strength by being overly supported by the sponsor."

Tearing down of Strongholds/Dr Pat Holliday/Dr Sabrina Sessions/Marshall Perot

    in Religion

    The tearing down of Strongholds

A stronghold is deception that's taken hold in a person's mind. It's an incorrect thinking pattern based on a believed lie. People can get incorrect perceptions of God by listening to Satan as he tells them how God doesn't love them, etc. People can feel like dirty old sinners when they believe Satan's accusations as he continually reminds them of their past (which has been washed away!). Strongholds are based on lies from the devil. They can come in the form of deception or accusations. Accusations always lead to guilt and the feeling of unworthiness, which weighs you down and tears you apart spiritually.

If the enemy has been feeding us a lie, we need to stop eating the lie and start feeding ourselves the truth. The weapon we use to tear down strongholds is found in Ephesians 6:17, "...the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." A sword is an offensive weapon and is meant to tear down and kill the enemy's troops. Strongholds are the devil's assets in war, and he uses them against us. Take up the sword of the Spirit (God's Word) today, and start slaughtering the enemy's assets that he's been using against you!

The teaching on Strongholds will give you a much better understanding of how strongholds work and how to tear them down.

Satan the god of this World

The Devil doesn’t need to attack those who are lost because they are headed for destruction and they are already on the broad path that leads there and many, not a few, are going down that path (Matt 7:13-14).

    Animals Characterize Empowerment Teachings

    in Education

Storytelling is the practice of leadership

One of the most powerful tools an organizer can choose to use is the art of storytelling. It is the context of public speaking to all sorts of audiences. Stories that tend to be more compelling answer the “why” of our values in our belief systems. Elements of the story help us gain practice in hearing and coaching others to share their stories. It is here leaders employ the head to heart method. In other words they motivate people to change.

Should you wish to contact us through email: bderrick@nativestudioart.net

We are looking to host people on the show. Do you empower others in your line of work? If so, how so? Love to hear from you my friend. Drop an email our way and share with us how you empower others.
