2/9/2016 EMT License Renewals, Dr. Martens on Federal DEA Legilslation

    in Caregiving

This webcast of EMS Live in Wisconsin was recorded on Tuesday, February 9, 2016.

Our first guest at 5:00 minutes into the program was EMS Office Licensing Coordinator Helen Pullen with the State of Wisconsin.  We discussed what is required to renew your EMT, paramedic, or emergency medicala responder liccense as all state licenses expire as of June 30, 2016.  The license renewal website is https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/ems/licensing/renewal.htm.

At 20 minutes into the program State of Wisconsin EMS and Trauma Medical Director Dr. Suzanne Martens joined us to explain House of Representatives bill 4365, Protecting Patient Access to Emergency Medication Act.  It has been recognized that EMS technically operates outside of the current DEA rules for controlled substances for pain and seizures.  The DEA has allowed this to continue, but has stated it cannot do so without a change in the actual regulations.  A draft bill to change these regulations has been written and proposed.  The House of Representatives is processing it, and will vote in the near future.  Without this bill change, all administration of controlled substances will require radio/phone contact for an order with medical control; and the ordering and stocking of these medications will be complex and costly, with potentially every ambulance being considered an "office".  Since the majority of requests for paramedic intercepts involves controlled substances, this impacts all levels of care.  >> Click for HR4365 Toolkit and how to contact your local elected federal representative.

Co-hosts included Joe Covelli and Patrick Ryan, and the program lasted 30 minutes.

WHAT SUCCESSFUL URBAN SCHOOLS DO! EXPERTS SHARE BEST PRACTICES

    in Education

    Show overview:

A discussion with Ms. Linda Harris, Mr. Patrick Jones and Mr. James Taylor. Show title "What Successful Urban Schools Do! Experts Share Best Practices.

NCEBC wants to welcome the full village to question, understand, and ask questions, about governance, educational policy, finances,  resources, and  the basic democratic principles of equity, fairness, and justice. It is important (if not, vital) that we have this conversation to continue to dispel the myth that black children are incapable of achieving high test scores,  therefore public schools are incapable of providing quality education.

"We believe in accountability. We believe that data drives decision-making. We believe in research-based practices. These principles have been used for generations by high performing schools, principals and Superintendents; especially those working and succeeding in urban communities were poverty and race are the dominant elements. This conversation is about the politics, power, economics, and restructuring of a public school system into a charter school system."

Diana Daniels, Executive Director, National Council on Educating Black Children

SB50 Preview, Toews To The Rescue, Bulls Play "Hoiball" Without Butler

    in Sports

The Blackhawks got their 2nd straight win last night, 5-4 over the Arizona Coyotes thanks to an OT game-winner from Jonathan Toews. The captain's stats are down this year, but he's still finding ways to be the best in crunch time. The Bulls beat the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday, playing their first game of the season without Jimmy Butler. And it was one of the best examples of Fred Hoiberg's offense we've seen all season. Is that a coincidence? Plus my preview and prediction for Super Bowl 50! Call in at 347.327.9183! BECAUSE CHICAGO LOVES SPORTS.

Miss Junie Ranks! Still going STRONG!

    in Motivation

Junie Ranks made her mark in the dance hall years ago. After recording her first single “Counteraction” for Techniques on the stalag riddim, she gained many hit singles like “Gimmie Di Buddy”, “ Cry Fe Me Boops”, “Big and Ready” and “Dibby Dibby Man”. During the days of real dancehall music she was one of the top female dee-jays and received the Father Bins award for Female Dee Jay of the Year in 1989.

Junie has recorded for some of the top producers in the business such as King Jammys, Steelie, Bunny Lee, Patrick Roberts, Black Scorpio and the late King Tubbys. She also collaborated with Penthouse records on several occasions at the end of the 80s.

Recently she went back into the studio with Brooklyn based reggae singer, songwriter and producer Ed Robinson at E2 Recordings, Inc., a/k/a E2 Studios to record her new song titled "Bring Back The Love". This song allows one to reminsce of the days gone by when dance was nice.  Ranks pays tribute to recording artists and the music of that era.
