It’s the conversation that many families put off. It’s the talk between husband and wife; the talk between partners; the talk between parents and kids, and the talk between elderly parents and their adult children about family finances. It’s a conversation that we don’t necessarily want to have, but one that every family should have.
On today’s episode of Your Money, Your Matters, we will discuss why it’s important to have the financial “talk.” We will dialogue on how honest and open communication about family finances can help you avoid financial mishaps. We’ll explore how unrealistic expectations can lead to making poor financial choices. We’ll examine how not knowing the difference between wants and needs can lead to out of control spending, and we’ll look at what it means to live within your means.

Join us as we talk to former Montgomery County School Board member Dr. Alan Cheung. Dr. Cheung was initially a pharmacist, taught medical school students in this subject, and then moved into the political arena with his position on the Board. It was in large part due to Dr. Cheung that Potomac Elementary School became the first public school in the country to offer Chinese Immersion. My own son graduated from this program, fluent in Chinese!! Dr. Cheung has recently turned to community work. He has written for a grant to fund a Chinese Immersion Summer Camp featuring a STEM curriculum. How ingenious! The program was first funded last summer, and was successful in its funding request this time as well. Through careful budgeting (and Dr Cheung giving up his own salary) the program will be able to be funded through the school year, in an after-school program! I met the teachers and students from the summer camp, and they were all most impressive. Only 3 wks of summer camp and already the kids were spouting Chinese.
Listen as we interview Dr. Cheung and find out some of the fascinating details to his programs.
On this episode of embracing my journey, morning inspiration Shawntel Green will be discussing Still Water Blessings. Giving a personal testimonial about her most recent Still Water Blessing and how the power of manifistation is real.
When life is unconventional, with the mere choice to have eight children, as a solo parent. It comes with its set of challenges along with the fact that I have been living in pain for the last 2 years following a car accident., which has been the cause of my recent diagnoses of Sacroilitis arthritis, a very painful form of rheumatoid arthritis. Sacroilitis arthritis is inflammation of the Sacroilitis joint that connects the pelvic and the spine. I have been enduring the pain of this arthritis for at least a year now, paralyzing me and limiting my mobility. At times it has been difficult to even make it from the bed to the bathroom. Thus, I have had to rely heavily on my mental capacity, and creative budgeting to make sure my family runs "smoothly.
Still waters is a time to regroup, give God the opportunity to take care of you, clear your head and focus on the important things based on his will for you. As a parent of eight children there are so many times I have been unsure of my direction, my confidence jolted and despair has tried to creep in. I live a lifestyle that is a moment to moment assessment of my ability. The constant challenge of achieving success based my goals, legacy, physical limitations, morals and standards are all consistent reminders when I look at my children and attempt to reduplicate my vision of a perfect life in them. This takes manifestation not everything you see is a result of physical labor. Mind power is a very neglected ability, that everyone has but most fail to tap into when their body has become physically weary.

This show will bring together authors of Reading in a Participatory Culture (2012) and the complementary digital book Flows of Reading, to discuss what it means to be a reader and writer in an increasingly participatory culture. Both books exemplify an expanded concept of the term "text" and model a new type of reader -- one who reads across different media and understands reading as an act of sharing, deconstructing, and making meaning. We hope to open a conversation about what "counts" as reading and all the kinds of reading we perform in our everyday lives.
