The media has brought to the forefront cases that have caused public outrage and concern. From the curious case of Trayvon Martin killed by George Zimmerman, Michael Brown gunned down as an unarmed felon, to the disturbing incidents surrounding the death of Sandra Bland, there is a definite rise in racial tensions across the United States as the media blares a giant searchlight on situations of African Americans in some sort of confrontation with a Caucasian.
When these incidents come into the public eye, they lead to an overarching question: "Why?" One black man made a very famous statement while being beaten by a group of police officers: "Can't we all just get along?" The statement has been taken seriously and at the same time, been made a parody. But the question, however one puts it remains. "Can't we all just get along?"
Is racism simply part of America's DNA -- what makes up this country? Is this just a thing we have to live with and accept? Will those who try to work to bring harmony on either side be ridiculed? Why can't we as a nation get past this? Why does it keep rearing its head?
Join in on the conversation with my returning guest Melissa Pellew as we try to tackle this issue and others surround the rise of racial tensions in our country. “Earl Javorsky's bold and unusual DOWN SOLO blends the mysterious and the supernatural boldly and successfully. The novel is strong and haunting, a wonderful debut.” – T. Jefferson Parker, New York Times bestselling author of FULL MEASURE and THE FAMOUS AND THE DEAD.
Authors on the Air host Pam Stack welcomes suspense and crime fiction writer Earl Javorsky (also known as Dan Howard). I have to agree with Jeff Parker and say that Dan's books are powerfully intense and immeasurably enjoyable. Here is a little more about "Earl" (and he promises to explain the pen name). " I was born in Berlin and emigrated to the US when I was two. My father had been an aerial photographer under Rommel in North Africa and worked as a cinematographer in NYC. My mother remarried when I was five and we were off to Hollywood, where my step-father had a contract with Paramount. Oddly, he had been a lieutenant in the US Navy off the coast of Italy. I was a weird kid and made the appropriate adjustments. After a long stint trying to make it as a musician in LA and clawing my way up to mid-level management in the chemical entertainment industry (just about killed me), I went back to my first love: writing. I had the good fortune to run into Lou Aronica, my editor at The Story Plant. I work as a proofreader/edito"r (www.theproofreader.org).

On today's show, I'll do a sixty-minute-blitz on the latest shooting in America, this one taking place in Virginia, where Alison Parker and Adam Ward were gunned down by Vester Lee Flanagan II aka Bryce Williams. What's going on here? What's really taking place? How do Americans truly feel about the latest shooting/event and what could be the actual cause behind it? We'll get into some of thse dynamics on today's show, as we approach the Full Moon in Pisces, where illusion and redemption bask in the glow of Neptune's lunar influence.
