Those coins will be a part of the funding to get animals from other areas. As you enter the building a front desk will be straight ahead. As you look down you will see paw prints of dogs go to one side of it and cats to the other. That is because each will dominate a side of the building. Dogs to the left cats to the right.. Dr. Bill Bernet on parental alienation: Why children of divorce reject a parent

    in Family

In some cases of high-conflict divorce, a child allies himself strongly with one parent (the preferred parent or alienating parent) and rejects a relationship with the other parent (the target parent) without legitimate justification.

Children are the most vulnerable members of a family and it is only to be expected that a parent will find them a useful tool against the other parent. In its more subtle forms, it is near impossible to detect.

Why does this happen? What can be done about it? Why has there been opposition to recognizing parental alienation as a serious problem?

Join us as psychiatrist Bill Bernet discusses his work regarding this troubling situation.

William Bernet, M.D., is a graduate of Holy Cross College (summa cum laude) and Harvard Medical School.  He is currently a professor emeritus at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.  He is board certified in general psychiatry, child psychiatry, and forensic psychiatry.  As an expert in forensic psychiatry, Dr. Bernet has testified about 300 times in 20 states.

Dr. Bernet has written professional articles and chapters on a variety of subjects, including: group and individual therapy with children and adolescents; humor in psychotherapy; forensic child psychiatry; child maltreatment; true and false allegations of abuse; satanic ritual abuse; reincarnation; child custody and visitation; parental alienation; testimony regarding behavioral genomics; and risk management.

In 2007, Dr. Bernet and Judge Don R. Ash published Children of Divorce: A Practical Guide for Parents, Therapists, Attorneys, and Judges.  Dr. Bernet edited Parental Alienation, DSM-5, and ICD-11, which was published in 2010.  Dr. Bernet and his colleagues edited Parental Alienation: The Handbook for Mental Health and Legal Professionals, which was published in 2013.

Can Mommy/Daddy Issues Hinder You From Finding ‘The One’?

    in Romance

Some of the first ways we learn about relationship dynamics are observing the relationships we grew up seeing, like the ones of our parents or guardians. Many times, we tend to believe our parent’s relationships or the relationship we had with them should be the outline of what a relationship should be and often times we end up mirroring similar qualities in our own romantic relationships. After all, learning starts at home, right? While it’s the norm to hear that women have daddy issues and men have mommy issues that is not always the case. Both men and women can have issues with both parents instead of one over the other. Negative relationships with a man and his father can impact him greatly as do a woman and her mother. For example, if a man didn’t have his father around to teach him how to be a man or if he grew up in a household watching his father abuse his mom, he may think physical abuse is a way to show ‘love’. So the issue remains, if a woman or man has mommy or daddy issues---can that delay them from finding ‘the one’? Men, if you found out your lady or woman of interest showed signs of having mommy-daddy issues will you continue to pursue her? But, if you truly found ‘the one’ and they had mommy-daddy issues wouldn’t you overlook it? Realistically, we all come with baggage; it’s finding ‘the one’ who is worth being with and how serious their baggage can impact your relationship. Find out what After Hourz have to say about parental issues and relationships! We want to hear from you! Listen! Call in! Share!
