Many yearn for the prestige and sense of accomplishment of having a published book. The world of publishing has changed, however. We no longer have to send out dozens of query letters and wait anxiously for a response that often never comes. Well-known books such as A Time to Kill by John Grisham and What Color Is Your Parachute? by Richard Nelson Bolles started as self published books before they became national bestsellers. There is also the story of Amanda Hocking who set out to make an extra few hundred dollars self publishing, but made $2.5 million instead. The number of self-published books in the United States annually has grown 287 percent since 2006, according to statistics. We now have the power in our own hands, but what do we do with it? Bestselling author Michelle Stimpson has penned several works, including national bestseller, Divas of Damascus Road, the highly acclaimed Falling Into Grace, and Amazon #1 bestseller, Stepping Down. She has also published more than 50 short stories through her educational publishing company. Michelle holds an English degree from Jarvis Christian College and master’s degree in education from the University of Texas at Arlington. She joins the show to share her trade secrets on how to sucessfully self publish your book! (www.MichelleStimpson.com)

American Heroes Radio features a conversation with former United States Marine Corps Major Dan Sheehan, the author of After Action: The True Story of a Cobra Pilot’s Journey.
Major Dan Sheehan, USMC, “served as a Marine Officer from 1996 to 2007. He is an AH-1W pilot by trade and deployed aboard the 13th MEU (SOC) in 2000 and the 11th MEU (SOC) in 2002. During those deployments he participated in operations in East Timor, Yemen, and in various countries in the Middle East. In 2003, he flew close air support missions during the invasion of Iraq & in 2004 served in Baghdad as a Forward Air Controller with USMC Special Operations Command. When he left active duty as a Major in 2007, he had accrued more than 2000 flight hours and over 30 free-fall and static line parachute jumps.” Major Sheehan is the author of After Action: The True Story of a Cobra Pilot's Journey. According to the book description of After Action: The True Story of a Cobra Pilot's Journey, “as a 3rd generation military flyer, he was eager to test his skills as a Cobra gunship pilot in the theatre of combat & then he got his chance, first, in East Timor, then during 2 tours of duty in Iraq.
The scenes in this, Dan’s military memoir, crackle with angst and excitement as we follow his path into battle. Bullets pierce the unarmoured Cobras as Dan and his buddies struggle to separate enemy fighters from civilians. Through the smoke of battle and chaos of firefights at night, Dan puts us in right in the front seat of the Cobra - where we white-knuckle our way through barrages of enemy fire - and into his head as he makes split-second decisions that determine life or death."
We've finally made it to my absolute favorite decade of all...The 80's! This was the time of my heyday, so it was full of many firsts, many new experiences and many great times, all rolled up in the coolest decade ever! The 80's was an era filled with individuality, neon brights and wildly radical fashions, complete with things like spandex, parachute pants & big hair, many new breakouts in music and dance, movies that we will never forget, extremely awesome video games, countless modern inventions and so much more. It was such a fun time to be a teen-ager and truly formed a big part of who I am inside and a lot of what I enjoy in many areas.
Please join us this month, as we revisit the decades of "The 60's," "The 70's," "The 80's" and "The 90's!" We will celebrate the good and talk about the bad of one decade per week. Call in and share your memories of each decade or the things you miss from that era and even the things you don't miss and could do without during that time.
Join Garrett for tons of fun when he welcomes George Tannehill, Music Expert, for his take on 80's Icons: The Bangles, Billy Joel and Michael McDonald - that's all in Hour 1! Hour 2 is NON-STOP & Commercial Free 80's hits for you to break out your parachute pants for! SHARE and ENJOY!
