Living Master Artist Virgil Elliott on Art from the Renaissance to the Present

    in Art

What does it take to make art now at the level of Renaissance Art? Why is it important to do so? Join us as artist Virgil Elliott talks about painting, drawing, music, technique, and teaching.

Painter/writer Virgil Elliott (born 1944) is best known as the author of the book, Traditional Oil Painting: advanced techniques and concepts from the Renaissance to the present, published in 2007 by Watson-Guptill Publications. Acknowledged as a Living Master by the Art Renewal Center, among the many honors and awards he has received over the years, Virgil is widely recognized as an expert on historic oil painting techniques and oil painting materials of the past and present.  He has written and published articles on the working methods and/or lives of Rembrandt, Titian, Frans Hals, Artemisia Gentileschi, and the 19th Century French artist William Bouguereau, among other things. He taught oil painting at the College of Marin, in Marin County, California for a few years, and has taught privately since 1982.

He has been an active participant/member of ASTM International’s Subcommittee on Artists’ Paints and Materials since 1997, which experience has broadened his knowledge of artists’ materials considerably and has made him the acquaintance of many experts in the field, including top-level conservation scientists from major museums, from whom he says he has learned a great deal over the years.

Virgil Elliott keeps a studio in California’s Wine Country, where he paints, teaches and writes, and lives with his wife, singer/actress Annie Lore.  From time to time he has “moonlighted” as a musician, playing guitar and Renaissance lute, both as a solo instrumentalist and occasionally as accompanist to various vocalists. He feels that music and visual art complement one another.

  • NABWIC Supports Industry Day in South Florida

    in Women

Industry Day provides a platform for Transportation Industry professionals to share with students the opportunities available in various career fields of transportation, aviation, construction, and engineering. Industry Day differs from a traditional career fair by offering information through small seminars with dialogue exchange, rather than by exhibits or booths. The event is hosted by the National Association of Black Women in Construction (NABWIC)– South Florida Chapter local sponsors in collaboration with the Booker T. Washington High School Partners.

The specific objectives of Industry Day are:

To give students exposure to role models and possible careers they can consider as well as offering new career choices.
To show the connection between school and real life; how presenters used their education to achieve their goals.
To emphasize careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and other areas of transportation, aviation, construction and engineering.
To provide students an opportunity to interact with professionals.

Tune in and listen to sponsors, attendees and presenters as they provide their feedback and perspective on one of the most impactful sessions of the year.

    in Spirituality

William von Holst holds a Masters of Arts in Art History and Philosophy from the University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign and was granted a scholarship from the University of Chicago, Doctor of Philosophy Divinity School, but turned it down. Instead, William chose to seek wisdom from alternative sources. He has attended workshops from many teachers including Elisabeth Claire Prophet and Ram Das. William met Imre Vallyon in 1986 who has been his exclusive teacher ever since. Over the last 24 years, William has been on over forty month long retreats with Imre all over the world including New Zealand, Switzerland, Germany, Holland, Canada and America. William has conducted many sessions on these retreats as well as teaching classes in Chicago, San Diego and the Bay Area. He has helped in the publishing of Imre Vallyon's material as well. The true spiritual path is participating in an energy field, this is what Imre speaks about in his books and what he radiates on retreats. William has had the good fortune to experience this energy field.
