    in Health

Health Guru, Beverly Nadler talks about The Healing Power of Yoga.  The show is hosted by yoga enthusiast, Genece Miller.
The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word that means to “yoke” or “unite.”  You are uniting your attention and awareness with a higher Consciousness. Today, many people practice Hatha Yoga as their choice of exercise, or simply because they enjoy it. Other forms of yoga include Bhakti, Karma, Jnana, Raja and Kriya.  In today’s fascinating show, Beverly Nadler will briefly describe these forms, and primarily focus on the physical, emotional and spiritual benefits of Hatha and Kriya Yoga.
Some of the research may amaze and inspire you – such as a study of more than 15,000 overweight adults in their 50s who were not dieting, and did Hatha Yoga only once a week for 4 years and lost an average of 5lbs, while a similar group of overweight adults gained over of 13.5 lbs. during the same time period.  People with severe disabilities can do yoga, thanks to a paralyzed man who created a system that allows anyone to experience the benefits.

Curtis Harwell Discusses How To Improve Your Relationships With Fitness

    in Fitness

Some people think and actually feel that working out is ONLY about getting a hot body and looking good. Sorry my friend, getting your fitness game up can solve other problems too. Fitness is linked to improving all sorts of things like health (obviously) career and body image. Living a healthy lifestyle can also help improve your relationships.

This past week while catching up on the news, a story came up about a woman who lost 130 lbs after her divorce. Not sure if her weight was one of factors as to why the divorce happened. Or if the relationship was the cause of her being overweight. But how you look, and feel most definitely factors into relationship dynamics.

    Be Happy

Studies time, after time have proven that frequent exercise makes people happy. When you start and finish a work project it makes you happy. The same goes for working out. It’s hard to get started, but when you do and finish your routine you feel accomplished. It makes you feel good about yourself, on top of the endorphins that are released because of your sweat session. And happy people want to be around happy people.

    Feel Good

There are a lot of people out there who would rather not work out because they don’t like to sweat. Lets give those people the blank stare, and forget about their ridiculous excuse as to why they opt out of working out. You know how good you feel after a workout. When you feel good about yourself, other people notice this.

Obesity - An Epidemic Affecting Children and Adults

    in Health

Quoting the American Psychological Association; Excess weight and obesity in childhood and adolescence has become a serious public health concern in the United States. The “obesity epidemic” has particularly exploded in the last 25 years. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the prevalence of obesity has more than doubled among children ages two to five (5 percent to 12.4 percent) and ages six to 11 (6.5 percent to 17 percent). In teens ages 12 to 19, prevalence rates have tripled (5 percent to 17.6 percent).

This has significant implications for the life expectancy of obese youth who are likely to experience higher rates of hypertension, elevated cholesterol, and Type 2 diabetes than their parents. This may be the first generation to have a shorter life expectancy than the one immediately before them. There is some encouraging news that growth in childhood obesity prevalence has slowed in recent years, however serious efforts are still required to fully reverse the trend.

From a study in West Virginia - According to the National Institutes of Health, obesity and overweight together are the second leading cause of preventable death in the United States, close behind tobacco use. An estimated 300,000 deaths per year are due to the obesity epidemic.

So what can be done? Listen in and find out...
