Music by DJ Ben Castaneda
Singer/Songwriter Offiong Bassey
Singer/songwriter and poet, Offiong Bassey, is an exciting artist who draws upon the numerous influences that have touched her life. As the first generation from her Nigerian family born in the U.S., the soul, jazz, and gospel music of America reside within her just as comfortably as the musical traditions of West Africa. She brings to them her unique ear for harmonies and phrasing, her ground-shaking, power vocals, and her unmatched versatility to create music that is fresh, inspiring, and just plain fun.
Her debut album, "Offiong Bassey" (released on her label Moonlit Media Group), is a nuanced, mosaic of songs that truly represent who she is as an artist – a genre-bending mix that includes Afro-Peruvian rhythms, funk, R&B and Nigerian Ekombi. The album debuted at #2 on the CMJ New World Music adds chart its first week in radio promotions and reached #4 on the Soultracks music chart.

Born in Barcelona, our guest on 11/19/2014 has made QUITE a splash in his adopted country. Besides the fact that he just voted for the first time - as an American citizen :) Oscar Penas (I can't wait to say his last name: PEA Nyas!) is a gifted guitarist, composer and bandleader with a new CD that is, indeed, bragworthy. "Music of Departures and Returns" is full of inspirations that captivate Oscar - who has discussed the reasons why he was so drawn to Jazz after his childhood studies in Classical Music. He relished the idea of creating melodies and interacting with other musicians. Pat Metheny and Wayne Shorter were sparks that goaded him early on. Then, the music of Pixinguinha - the flamenco music of Spain that was so infused inside of him - all the ingredients that would define the intoxicating stew of Oscar's music - were taking shape. This is a gentleman who has won the "ASCAP Plus Award" - so SOMETHING's working :)
Oscar is visiting us for two reasons. One, he's performing at the prestigious Strathmore in Bethesda, Maryland, in the next few days. We certainly wanted to call attention to that. Secondly, this new album, Oscar's fourth, is full of music that enriches the soul. Esperanza Spalding and Paquito D'Rivera are featured - as is producer, arranger and pianist, Gil Goldstein. He also focuses on quartet: six-string electric bassist Moto Fukushima, drummer Richie Barshay, and the world-class violinist, Sara Caswell.
Besides being an alluring guitarist - both intelligent and earthy - Oscar is a wise man. He knew that, after his education at Berklee and the New England Conservatory, he would have to stand out in the sea of sublime artistry that populates New York City. So, he dug deeply, honoring his roots and his passion for Jazz. The results will make your ears thank you :)

Oscar Leonard Carl Pistorius (/p?s't?ri?s/; born 22 November 1986) is a South African sprint runner. Although both of Pistorius' legs were amputated below the knee when he was 11 months old, he competes in events for single below-knee amputees and for able-bodied athletes. At the 2011 World Championships in Athletics, Pistorius became the first amputee to win an able-bodied world track medal. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, Pistorius became the first double leg amputee to participate in the Olympics when he entered the men's 400 metres and 4 × 400 metres relay races. At the 2012 Summer Paralympics, Pistorius won gold medals in the men's 400 metre race and in the 4 × 100 metres relay, setting world records in both events. He also took a silver in the 200 metres race, having set a world record in the semifinal.
In the early morning of Thursday, 14 February 2013, Pistorius' girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp was shot and killed at Pistorius' Pretoria home.
Richard Anderson was there for television's bionic beginning playing the role of "Oscar Goldman" in the "Six Million Dollar Man" and shortly thereafter "The Bionic Woman" And he was responsible for bringing back bionics in the form of three very highly rated tv features. Anderson joined Lee Majors for five years in "the Six Milion Dollar Man" as Oscar Goldman the Washington honcho. He became the first actor to play the same character in two series on different networks at the same time when he joined Lindsay Wagner as her co-star in "The Bionic Woman." He received an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Dramatic Series for that role.
Anderson sold the studio and the networks on the tv features, which he exec-produced. They are: "The Return of the Six-Million Dollar Man" and the Bionic Woman," "Bionic Showdown" and the CBS hit, "Bionic Ever After."
In the halcyon days of the major studios, Anderson was under contract to MGM where he appeared in over 26 films while in the process of fulfilling his six year contract. He was released from that contract to play starring role in Stanley Kubrick's "Paths of Glory," something different in movie-making. And again he decided on something different when he accepted a starring role as station commander in Miramax's recently re-issued, critically acclaimed Charles Burnett film "The Glass Shield." He is a Beverly Hills, California resident with three daughters, a sports buff, tennis player, a car enthusiast, and--an insatiable traveler. Join Richard & co-author of his memoirs Al Doshna for a look at his life & career.
Two hours was just not enough as Oscar, Sir Mo, and Dreami Mimi continue their christmas celebration. Who will show up, what will happen.....nothing is for sure as seen on last week's show, one thing is guaranteed and that is that everyone will have a great time so don't miss it.
