Trump & Carson down in polls, Cruz & Rubio gaining. Why people run for office.

    in Politics Conservative

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. After a week's time off air, it is time to get back to the mean, rotten, scandalous, cut-throat, wonderful game of politics! Where better to begin than looking at the current leaders in the POTUS race. Donald Trump, Ben Carson, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio are the four quarters making up the dollar bill. Two are showing signs of loosing value; two see their stock rising. Is this the beginning of a major shift?

Join me "In the Pickle Barrel" as we discuss these topics and more. The chat room and telephone lines are always open and I want to hear your thoughts and opinions.

Dr. Stanton Peele on overcoming an addiction with values and self-determination

    in Psychology

Amy Alkon's Advice Goddess Radio: "Nerd Your Way To A Better Life!" with the best brains in science.

*"Best Of" replay for Thanksgiving weekend.

Stanton Peele points out that most people recover from addictions on their own -- without AA or rehab, and what makes the difference is values, not biology.

On tonight’s show, he’ll debunk many of the myths in addiction treatment -- especially the notion that addiction is a “disease” people are powerless to overcome. That defeatest message is especially counterproductive to overcoming addiction, and it’s been supported with bad science and hearsay. Join us tonight to hear what solid science says about how addiction or bad habits can be overcome -- to the point where people are not just going cold-turkey off some substance or behavior till their next relapse, but where they develop meaningful ways of coping that no longer have them turning to their old crutch.

Peele’s book we’ll be discussing is Recover! Stop Thinking Like an Addict and Reclaim Your Life with The PERFECT Program.

Join me and all my fascinating guests every Sunday, 7-8 p.m. PT, 10-11 p.m. ET, at blogtalkradio.com/amyalkon or subscribe on iTunes or Stitcher.

Please order my new book, the science-based and funny "Good Manners For Nice People Who Sometimes Say F*ck," -- only about $11 at Amazon.

Holiday Stress Is It Friend or Foe?

    in Spirituality

Hostess Lisa Winton and Swami Jayananda will be talking about stress and the importance of pressure in creating a balanced life. Pressure is what changes coal into diamonds; pressure is what enables you to lift your car with a hydraulic jack; pressure is what is needed to lift ourselves out of the regressive cycle. Stress is getting a bad rap these days because we don't develop the ability to contain it; and then we become controlled by it. They will explain how to use the obligations and responsibilities of the holidays to foster cheer, joy and good will for everyone.  Join the Kriya Yoga Spiritual Advance to get the light in your soul and gain more understanding of your potential.

    in Prayer

You may have a right to your opinion but is your opinion right? All opinions are not equal. I notice sometimes when two people are arguing strongly that one of them will finally retort: "Well, I have a right to my opinion." Their statement seems to imply that simply asserting their right gives validity to their view.

My dictionary gives one definition of the word opinion as: "a belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge." We should all be willing to give up a strong impression we have in favor of positive knowledge. So my suggestion is that we submit all our opinions - no matter how strong, to the sure truth of God's Word.

Luke 21:33 says; "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away." God doesn't just offer "opinions"; his Word is the standard for truth with a capital T - absolute TRUTH.

Often, our opinions are formed from our background or life experiences. Sometimes they are even formed on misinformation or false assumptions. I saw this in my own life when I was newly saved. After reading the Bible, I was left with no choice but to fill an extra large garbage bag with junk opinions and throw them on the trash heap. I may have had a right to them but they were dead wrong.

To this day, I have to be willing to give up my "right" to my opinion in favor of God's. His opinion is the only one that equals truth every single time. So - let me ask you: what is God's opinion of your opinions? His are the only ones always right. Right?

    The Society Show

This show is all about how we see ourselves as individuals in a society as well as society at large. We will dive into the topics of free will and how we as individuals create our own lives.
