    Climate Action with Russell Greene

    in Politics Progressive

Climbing PoeTree is the combined force of Alixa Garcia and Naima Penniman. Over the last 11 years, Climbing PoeTree has been at the forefront of social and environmental justice movements by harnessing their art as a tool for popular education, community organizing, and personal transformation. Their award-winning performance is composed of dual-voice spoken word poetry, hip hop, and multimedia theatre that dissolves apathy with hope, exposes injustice, and helps heal our inner trauma so that we may begin to cope with the issues facing our communities.

Climbing PoeTree has independently organized 25 national and international tours bringing their performance to thousands of people across the U.S. and abroad from Mexico to the UK, South Africa to Cuba. Their soul-stirring performances have been featured alongside visionary leaders and artists such as Angela Davis, Cornel West, Alice Walker, Erykah Badu, Alicia Keys, Saul Williams, Sonia Sanchez, Naomi Klein, Danny Glover, and The Last Poets, among others.  In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina Alixa and Naima traveled over 11,000 miles across the U.S. on a bus converted to run on recycled vegetable oil, merging theater and activism by creating a national network that gave voice to local organizations addressing and healing the effects of unnatural disasters in their communities. Climbing PoeTree’s artistic and organizing work can be found on the walls of galleries and museums through projects such as S.T.I.T.C.H.E.D and Shadow Boxing (Created by Garcia), and in the streets of Haiti (Ayiti Resurrect, Co-Founded by Penniman).

    "WHAT YOU SAID HURT ME"

    in Religion

Today we will explore the wounds that we suffer as the result of what people have said about us or should I say what we believed about what someone said about us.

    Audience Question:

    1. I keep feeling the pain that my ex- husband said about me. He said that I was never a good wife and that I could not cook good and that sex with me was a horrible experience. He said that I was not a good mother and that he never even loved me and always wondered what he even seen in me. Although we are divorced now, I still hear his words echoing in my head. How do I handle this?

    2. My wife often mentions other guys from work and tells me what she like about how they dressed and look and how much money they make. She thinks it's good conversation but what she doesn't understand is that all I am hearing is that I am not measuring up to the others guys and that she may be attracted to them and not to me. I don't have a problem with changing if that is what she wants. So how should I address this with her?

    Just Jesus #63

    in Christianity

Thomas Brooks said, "Christ is a jewel worth more than a thousand worlds, as all know who have Him. Get Him, and get all; miss Him and miss all."

This is Daniel Whyte III with Just Jesus, a podcast designed to celebrate the birth, life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the impact He has on the world, and the salvation He offers for all people. This is episode #63. The aim of this podcast is to encourage you to begin a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and to begin to live your life according to His Word.

Our Just Jesus passage from the Word of God today is John 1:18 which reads: "No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him."

Our featured Just Jesus quote today is from John Pulsford. He said, "Christ is in all His redeemed, as the soul of their soul, the life of their life. He is the pitying heart and the helping hand of God with every needy, praying spirit in the world. He is the sweet light of the knowledge of God that breaks in upon every penitent heart. He is not only with those who believe in Him and love Him, but also with those who neither believe in Him nor love Him, that He may be to them also Jesus their Saviour. The Christ of God is in thy heart, waiting and aiming to get the consent of thy will, that He may save thee. Wherever man is, there also is Christ, endeavoring to free him from the law of sin and death, by becoming Himself the law of the spirit of his life."

    Sacred Sunday~Romans 4/God and Abraham

    in Religion

Welcome Church! We are here every Sunday to read the Bible, tell personal stories and pray together because when two or more are gathered.....In a non-judgemental down to earth format. God bless you every one! Today we are reading Romans Chapter 4!

How does Paul know all this? Because of Abraham. Remember him from way back in Genesis?Paul explains that the Bible tells us that Abraham believed in God, and because of this, God thought he was a swell guy. And it certainly wasn't because he was an awesome juggler (he wasn't). God liked Abraham because Abraham had faith in him. God is pretty big on people putting their faith in him.  Well, just remember that God was cool with Abraham before he was even circumcised. In fact, the main reason that Abraham got circumcised was to mark himself with a sign of his new relationship with God. So Abraham is basically a stand-in for everyone who has ever believed in God, but has not been circumcised. Gentile-Christians, we're looking at you. Like Abraham, no one has to work to get on God's good side. You just gotta have faith. Really, Paul says, if people could just go around doing nice things and win God's favor, then what would be the point of believing at all? When God promised Abraham that he would have lots of kids and that he would go on to be "the father of many nations," Abraham didn't doubt God. Sure, Abraham was over a hundred years old. And his wife, Sarah, was pretty much barren. But Abraham still believed it would happen. And you know what? It did. Now that's some strong believing. So there, Paul says. Faith! Abraham had faith in God's promises.  If someone believes in Jesus—that he died so that our sins could be crossed off God's ledger and that he came back to life so that we could be square with God again—then that person is a-okay by God.
