Talk about Washington/Baltimore vocal groups from the late '60s and '70s, and the name Skip Mahoney invariably pops up. Mahoney's surname, similar to Leo Gorcey's character in the Bowery Boys, is actually spelled Mahoaney; he dropped the "a" when the group signed with Nashboro Records. They were known as the Casuals until their debut recording on D.C. International Records appeared with the name Skip Mahoaney & the Casuals on the label, causing a rift between Mahoney and the other guys.

Now a days, if you wave a a police officer they may look for a way to pull you over and ask what you're up to. How did we become soooo suspicious about our police force today? How did they become so suspicious of us? Splash has some definite feelings about this and he'd like to hear yours.

A Staten Island grand jury voted on Wednesday not to bring criminal charges in the death of Eric Garner, a black man who died after being placed in a chokehold by a white police officer, a decision that triggered outrage by many public officials, spurred protesters to take to the streets and led President Obama to once again vow to help heal the rift that exists between the police and those they serve.
Mayor Bill de Blasio, speaking at a news conference in Staten Island, said that he had been assured by Attorney General Eric Holder that a federal investigation would continue to probe the death and determine whether Mr. Garner’s civil rights were violaion.
The grand jury decision was reached after months of testimony, including that provided by the officer who used the chokehold, Daniel Pantaleo. The grand jury reached its decision less than two weeks after a grand jury in Ferguson, Mo., declined to bring charges against a white officer who fatally shot an unarmed black teenager, Michael Brown.
NOW WE SEE THE REAL DEAL WITH THE POLICE AND THE GRAND JURY. IS IT RIGED ?
Did you know... North American governments
Spend over 51 BILLION dollars a year on the War on Drugs?
Yet these same governments do very little to treat addiction and the "poverty of the spirit" that engenders this addiction.
Dr. Bruce K. Alexander is a Canadian psychologist who believes that society is drowning in addictions, to alchohol, drug use and a thousand other habits. He maintains the reason for this is a growing disconnect as people around are torn from the close ties to family, culture, and traditional spirituality. Alexendar says this rift and lack of social integration has destroyed what used to constitute the normal fabric of societal life.
For many, addiction serves as a substitute for the connectedness for which they long and which provides context and meaning for their lives.
Alexander believes because societal determinants are so much more powerful that individual ones, that addiction is much more a social problem than an individual disorder. This is why he feels that the War on Drugs is so wrong-headed.
Alexander's book, The Globalization of Addiction: A Study in Poverty of the Spirit presents a new look at the nature of addiction, how society should view addicts, and more effective treatments for addiction.
Bruce Alexander is a psychologist and Professor Emeritus at Simon Fraser University, where he has worked since 1970. His primary research interest has been the psychology of addiction. He is best known in the UK for the "Rat Park" experiments, which helped to demonstrate the falsity of the outworn belief that simple exposure to narcotic drugs can cause addiction.

This Sunday's Topic
A study published in 2012 found that conspiracy theorists frequently believe in multiple conspiracies, even when one conspiracy contradicts the other.
For some individuals, an obsessive compulsion to believe, prove, or re-tell a conspiracy theory may indicate one or a combination of well-understood psychological conditions, and other hypothetical ones: paranoia, denial, schizophrenia, mean world syndrome.
What say you? Do you believe any conspiracy theories out there? Why or why not?
Among other questions, the question we'll answer is: DO ANY OF THESE CONSPIRACY THEORIES HOLD UP? Share your thoughts and opinions live on-air or leave us an anonymous question via text or voice mail via our hotline at 404-590-4788.
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS? Call and tell us your thoughts this Sunday. Call 646-200-0246 on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at 7:00 pm EST.
