Following up on our remarkable special episode last Tuesday, Hip Hop & Race: A Talk Show Town Hall, this will be the last episode of 2014. We'll take a look at the year in hip hop, particularly as it relates to our New York rap ecosystem.
We'll also be speaking with Soul Inscribed, to talk about their Blue Note Jazz Club show coming up on January 2, and exactly what they have in mind by fusing hip hop, soul and funk.
Oh, we'll have ticket giveaway info also!
We don't really do end-of-the-year lists, since they're usually only done to incite chatter and clicks, rather than give the audience credit for being able to decide on their own what they thought was their favorites, we prefer to let you tell us what YOU thought was the best.
Of course, we'll give our opinions, but as alawys, we'll look to you and your calls to give us your thoughts.
Check it out, and as always, thanks for the support

Remember, the NSA said they were spying on us but that was to keep us safe? Were those two dead NY cops kept safe by NSA spying?
Remember that the killer of the NY cops posted what he was planning to do hours before he did it? Yet somehow the NSA collected that data but never warned the New York City Police Department. Why?
Call 929-477-4171 after Week 17 between the New York Giants vs Philadelphia Eagles. We will be discussing the win or loss of Week 17 of the NFL season. With Week 17 out of the books, is there any joy to be had from Big Blue Nation. Any concerns the fans should have? What did you like from the game? What did you dislike from the game? Where does the team go from here? The good..... the bad.... the ugly? All your opinions and thoughts are welcomed to the Giants Round Table. It is again our honor to have as our distinguished guest tonight, Mr. Stanley Cohen. It is with dismay that this will be our last time speaking with Mr Cohen before he has to surrender himself to authorities on January 6th to serve out a sentence for, in our opinion, what amounts to BS tax code violations that should not require jail time. Even Rep. Grimm of NY pled guilty to actual tax evasion and still gets to stay in congress.
All that aside, something tells us, he is secretly looking forward to his time behind bars. He said that he intends to use his time to help those incarcerated due to miscarriages of justice. I'm sure there are more than enough of those to keep him occupied.
We learned last week, thanks to a Guardian exposé, that Stanley had played a major role in negotiations for the life of US hostage Peter Kassig from his ISIS captors. The effort was seemingly thwarted by, at the very least, inaction by US officials. Kassig was later beheaded.
We shall find out what comes next for this defender of the defenders. "Up The Rebels"

This show is a reunion show of sorts that took a year to happen and even then happened by sheer chance.
Whoever would have thought a 15 minute experimental radio show in Kent Texas would lead to meeting for the first Robert Tolan Jr., his wife Vanessa and Roque Robles in the meeting room at the Round Texas Best Western Executive hotel?
About a year ago I sent 2 flags and a care package to FOB Fenty in Afghanistan to support Operation Crazy Horse which is turn was sponsored by “Welcome Home Military Hero’s “which is jointly operated by the Tolan Family in Arroyo Grande Ca. Their son Robert was serving in the Army out of FOB Fenty at the time. I had arraigned to send two flags to FOB Fenty in Afghanistan with one of them to be returned to me and the other to be donated to a returning service man.
I also had the two flags flown over the Northwood memorial in Irvine California, which is the only memorial dedicated to the Iraqi and Afghanistan fallen. When Mr. Tolan returned state-side I did a show with to thank him for his efforts and to hear his stories
Fast Forward December 24 2014 we stopped in Kent Texas to do a brief show about ghost towns not knowing that Robert was going to hear the show and because he is stationed at Fort Hood Texas, he emailed me while we were here in Round Rock and so we set up the show.
Today 12/28/12 we met in the lobby of the Hotel and prerecorded the show which I am now going to play
Because this was prerecorded live and without rehearsal I apologize in advance for some sound issues but it is my belief that live radio is live radio and that includes the occasional OOPS. MY real surprise I will save for the end of the show
I would like to thank
Cheryl and Robert Tolan

The Pagan Variety show welcomes author, Peter Bebergal to speak about his new book, The Season of the Witch : How the Occult Saved Rock and Roll
Do you believe in rock and roll? Can music save your mortal soul or will you burn in the presence of the God of Hell Fire?
From the fateful meeting at the crossroads to the Super Bowl half time show. From Nazi's to the Illuminati, to Crowley and Maharishi Mahesh Yogi the history of Rock and Roll is woven with threads of sex, drugs, and magick. Is the force that drives the magick in Rock purely fiction, a well-meaning attempt to lift our consciousness, a conspiracy laden attempt to control us, or just plain charlatanism? Peter Bebergal unravels the threads to investigate as someone versed in Magick. His treatment of the subject of the occult and Rock and Roll shows his knowledge and respect of both. If you love Rock and the myth and mysteries of our modern day bards and magicians, you need to read this book.

James, aka@wcsteelerfan, has watched boxing since the days of 'Gillette Friday Night Fights', even before Howard Cossell. Coming from a town that has produced 5 World Champions, in 4 different weight classes, he brings an 'old-school' flavor, dellivered with his somewhat unique, humourous style.
Rod Green(jgeerod) is a life long boxing aficionado. In 2012 Rod traveled to Vegas and made a connection with HUSTLEBOSS Owner & Founder Chris Robinson. Immediately after that timely meeting Rod began doing scribe work for Hustleboss. In a short time he proved his knack and gift for delivering rock solid interviews for Hustleboss. In the Spring of 2014 Rod happened to meet our former host, Joseph Herron. Mr. Herron immediately saw the gifted radio qualities Rodney possessed , which ultimately led to Rod making guest appearances on Tha PUGILIST K0RNER as a host & cohost. Rodney's professional background consist of on air radio personality with KROV.
Elite trainer Ronnie Shields, joins our show, each with his own style and personality. "Straight Talk" with Mr Shields; is a no-holds barred session. Hip hop music and culture were born due to an incredibly unique real-world atmosphere, and since its inception, has always documented real life issues, often serving as a raw, unfiltered look at urban America through the eyes of those with a perspective like few others. Once dubbed the "CNN of the streets," hip hop has suffered something of an imposed identity crisis in recent years, being forced into a formulaic box by profit-seeking media conglomerates, seemingly more eager to produce cookie cutter music and prop up a certain sub-genre of rap superstar, at the expense of the huge range that exists in the overall music and culture.
As always, New York plays a huge part of this issue, but while NYC is still the Mecca, the issues facing hip hop that deal with race, have become a national -- even international -- issue worth discussing on its own. Add to this, the current turbulent relations between many Americans and the institutions supposedly designed "to serve and protect" them, based largely on the unequal treatment served to certain segments of the population.
In this special episode of The NY Hip Hop Report, we'll discuss both of these intriguing landscapes, both individually and how they coincide. Well discuss instances of real and perceived "cultural misappropriation" in the hip hop music business, how the industry muscled out pro-Black and "conscious" hip hop music over the years, as well as how current hip hop artists and organizations are at the forefront of the new civil rights movement, yet, rarely receive recognition or assistance, even from hip hop's most powerful figures.
If there is any episode that we need your input, it's this one. We'll be taking calls all night from listeners and a couple of special call-in guests. Join us, and join the conversation!
