Amazing Facts re: Nutrition
Nutrition belongs to E.S.P.M., as it has a huge impact on our mental and physical health.
Many years ago: no transportation, stores, gyms,
worked with hand-made tools, physical labor, during day light, sleeping during the night.
They ate what they found, grew, hunted, lived long and healthy lives.
At their time: no grains, rice, potatoes, sugar infused foods, something we eat now almost daily. They ate saturated fats. Article written by George Dvorsky 6/11/12: whole grains are extremely unhealthy, sugar is far worse than we previously thought.
Many years ago, no processed foods, hybride foods, milk products, etc., ate fresh vegetables, fruits, meat and nuts.
Change in eating habits:
Paleo Diet, advocates on eating unprocessed foods like lean meat, seafood, roots, tubers, fruits, and vegetables. Our body is used to those foods, digests them better and gets more nutrition per calorie than the typical Neolithic and processed foods.
Paleo advocates believe that gluten is a nasty weapon in our body. All humans react poorly to gluten. Robb Wolf compares this effect to having poison oak lining our intestinal walls.
I am eating mostly vegetables, fruits, and cashews. I am staying away from sweets, milk- and high gluten products.

Often times, we get caught in a web of negative and limiting beliefs about nutrition, health, fitness and body composition change. Like any thoughts or beliefs, they start to become a reality, whether they are positive or negative. And we tend to fuel these negative and limiting thoughts and beliefs and like a bad weed, they continue to grow.
Let's take a humorous spin on some of these thoughts and beliefs. This is the "lighter side of nutrition, health and fitness" and once we start to see the lighter side and the humor in some of these thoughts and beliefs, we can start to make big breakthroughs.

Follow me on my journey: meeting, yesterday at 11 AM; on time, doors closed, checked invite, 11:30 AM. Now what? First, I felt frustrated, waisted 30 min, two deep breaths, sat on the bench, used time wisely.
What would you do in this situation?
How would you react?
How would it affect you Emotionally, Spiritually, Physically and Mentally?
Just thinking about it, do you feel a shift in your body and your mind?
Now what are your options:
frett over it, get angry, frustrated, walk away, wait patiently and use the time efficiently, get some work done, take notes..
This is how this BTR came about, as this exact episode happened to me yesterday. I was at the destination on time only to find out that the Restaurant did not open for another 30 min.
Used time efficiently, writing my BTR and lovely conversation with guests. I felt that big shift within me from frustration to peace, serenity.
We can quite often change the outcome just by accepting it, taking a deep breath, and thinking positive, doing sth that soothes us and we feel good about getting it done. It's like getting twice as much accomplished than first intended. What a great feeling.

How can we stimulate our brain, so we won't get Alzheimer's or Dementia early in our lives?
Speaking from personal experience with F-I-L who lived with us until he passed away:
Be active daily
Be around people daily, forces you to communicate, to listen, to think, to talk, all brain stimulated activities.
Sufficient hydration, mostly water:
Read or be read to, watch TV, interaction, go outside, protect your skin,

May 8: Mother's Day. How can we honor our Mother? Who is our Mother? Own blood, person who raised us,
Being respectful, loving her, helping her when and even before she asks for help, appreciate all the sacrifices she made for us,
Look back at when you were a child - what did your mother do for you?
Look back now at what you are doing for your child(ren). Do you see a resemblance?
Do you want to be loved, cherrieshed, respected for what you do?
So, on this Mother's Day, May 8, 2016, I encourage you to love your Mother, who ever and wherever she is. There are plenty of wonderful gestures we can do: send a card, make a phone call saying "I love you", taking her out to lunch, or just spending some special quality time with her. I am sure you can think of many more things you can do to maybe even rekindle some of the fun times you had. The presents we give do not have to be expensive at all. What my Dad always said: "I love something that you made, whatever it is"! Just spending the time together was so much fun. (Poem)
For this Sunday, I encourage each one of you/us to reach out to someone who is/was special to us. As AT&T used to say: Reach out and touch someone!

Mental Balance: pertaining to the mind; pertaining to the totality of an individual's intellectual and emotional or physical being...
This is wk 4 of the full circle: E. S. P. and M health and balance.
Everthing we do belongs to one of the 4 quarters of the pie. The challenge we have is to make sure that the pie is evenly divided into four, so all slices are the same to be balanced. This means that we need to pay attention to where we have some short comings and balance those to even out. Some areas are easier to balance than others, which is amazing, as it allows us to learn to balance ourselves to the fullest. Sometimes we can use the same method to balance more than one slice of the pie.
ex. music is great for soothing, math, language/communication, energy, healing
exercise: benefits are strong, healthy, happy, balanced
nutrition: improves mental health
As you can see, the four slices always belong together and form a complete circle.
A balanced mind helps you make better decisions, faster and smarter decisions...
Medication is not always the solution. Sometimes it's better without!
Until next week, stay happy, healthy, blessed and empowered!

Why is Physical Balance so important?
ex.: Jr.'s story from when we took him in (November 11, 2009, prior 2 years convalescent home after amputation of left leg) to when he passed away (September 21, 2015 at 92 years and exactly 8 months) 6 years of learning, challenges, solutions, (vegetable, reduced meds with Dr.'s knowledge, interacted with him, healthier nutrition, better hydration, started swimming after 5 months living with us, increased swimming to 1 mile a day, sometimes 2 miles!)
ex.: my story November 5, 2015
What does Physical Balance prevent? What are the benefits? How can we achieve them?
No marathon needed! Consistent, daily exercise makes a big difference, not just physically, also emotionally, spiritually and what we'll see next week, mentally. Even passive exercising is better than no exercising.
Until next week! Stay happy, healthy, balanced and empowered!

Sleep Apnea - Overview & Facts
Never in my life did I think I had Sleep Apnea. However, my dentist asked me to take a Sleep Apnea test to find out why I have dry mouth? Honestly, I did not see a relation between the two, but..
What is Sleep Apnea?
How does Sleep Apnea fit into E.S.P.M.?
How can it be detected and diagnosed?
Why do so many people have this sleep disorder?
How does it manifest itself?
anatomy of breathing pattern
Symptoms of possible sleep apnea:
High blood pressure
Pre-diabetes and diabetes
Why do people with sleep apnea have longer and stronger Jet Lag when crossing over 2 time zones?
Jet lag is a circadian rhythm sleep disorder...
Jet lag can be worsened by:
- sleep loss due to travel
- spending a long time sitting, uncomfortable
- caffeine and alcohol use
- Air pressure or poor air quality
Do you see how it has to do with mental, physical and emotional health?
When in doubt, get tested.
ex.: class, small appliance, returned it today, test with a bigger aparatus, wear overnight & return tomorrow. The Dept is recording. Dr. knew things I never shared re: my sleep pattern.
Any of the above symptoms, get tested.

How does Mindfulness relate to E.S.P.M.?
What is Mindfulness?
Maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment. Jon Kabat-Zinn created a MBSR program (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, 1979).
Why Practice Mindfulness?
Good for our body. Boosts immune system. Good for our Minds. Reduces stress, depression, changes our brain...
How to Cultivate Mindfulness?
Jon Kabat-Zinn emphasizes that althought mindfulness can be cultivated through formal meditation, that's not the only way. Watch the "this Greater Good video".
Pay close attention to your breathing, especially when you are feeling intense emotions.
