She has taught educational psychology, philosophy, ethics, bioethics and theology in higher education. As a cleric, Rev. Dr. Barnes serves as an Associate Minister at Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church (Hamden, CT) and previously served as their Youth Minister. She also served as Dean of Faculty at Berean Bible Center (Michigan).

I’ve lived in San Diego most my life and love it here! I have a Business Degree from Cal Poly, Pomona and started to work in marketing at Hewlett-Packard Co. after graduation. I was able to use my creativity and writing skills in my job as a trade show specialist at H.P. I’m married and have two daughters that are in college who have inspired me to write Young Fiction/Middle Grade chapter books. As I would volunteer in their classes, I would notice that many students would struggle as they read chapter books. I also noticed that the books they liked to read the most were books that had action, adventure, and many were mysteries. I observed from raising my kids that the better they could read, the easier it was to keep up in their classes in middle school, high school and college. Therefore, I began to create my characters and eventually write a series of chapter books called The Adventures of Sophie and Scottie. The feedback I’ve been getting from students in grades 3 and up has been amazing! The readers can relate to the main characters, Sophie and Scottie, as well as the support characters that can be almost anything! I’m inspired from the feedback and the awards I’ve received to continue with this series. I have two books published: Sophie and Scottie’s Adventures of the Monarch Mystery, and Sophie and Scottie’s Adventures of Something’s Fishy. My third book, Sophie and Scottie’s Adventures of Sweet Tooth Rock is now in editing.
