On the show, we set up the Purdue game vs. Notre Dame in Lucas Oil Stadium, analyzing what it would take for the Boilermakers to pull off an upset in the last game between the rivals until 2020. We talk to ND beat writer LaMond Pope about the Fighting Irish 2-0 start, and feature Purdue safety Landon Feichter, who had to give away all his Notre Dame gear when he became a Boilermaker. This is the kickoff of my 2014 college football previews. I will start with previewing the Atlantic Coast Conference with fellow sports blogger extraodinaire Jake Anderson. Among the topics to be covered: 1) how will Louisville fare in its first season in the ACC; 2) will Notre Dame's partial football membership enhance the ACC's profile; 3) who could challenge Florida State; 4) should Florida State be a favorite to repeat as national champs; 5) where does the ACC rank among other power conferences?
As Purdue prepares to host Notre Dame, we take a look at the game, examining the matchups and talking to Gary Post-Tribune beat writer Lamond Pope. Plus we have a feature on Mr. Confident Cody Webster and an interview with new assistant basketball coach Brandon Brantley.
Also, we take a look around the league, give you "Our Boys" and predictions for Saturday's outcome.
As usual, it’s once again Sunday morning, which on CLNS Radio can only mean it’s time for another edition of the “Pushing the Envelope” podcast. On today’s show we will touch many subjects, starting from the Little League World Series. While for those few teams it’s great, the reality is that LSWW is bad for the majority of the youngsters involved. After that I will give you my thoughts on what is going on with Notre Dame and their small scandal.
Then I will dive on the subject that has affected car racing of late, with Tony Stewart killing Kevin Ward Jr. I will give you my take on all of it. I will also give you what I think about NASCAR’s new rule coming out of this tragedy. And finally, with less than two weeks from the beginning of college football, I will begin to look at the ACC and what I think will happen in its two Divisions. Including who will win the ACC championship game.
Like every other Sunday from 10 til 11 am EST this episode of “Pushing the Envelope” will once again be packed and once again I will not sit on the fence on any subject, since this is the podcast that never stands on the sidelines!
Zack Martin was a three year starter for Notre Dame and is one of the nation's top offensive linemen in this year's draft class.
Martin set a school record with 52 career starts and has the ability to switch inside at guard as well as play either tackle position.
The Indianapolis native is taking part in the Senior Bowl in Mobile and took time out to talk with Joe Everett of Rookie Draft about his career in South Bend and his NFL Draft experience.
Notre Dame de Paris was among the first buildings in the world to use the flying buttress (arched exterior supports). The building was not originally designed to include the flying buttresses around the choir and nave. After the construction began and the thinner walls (popularized in the Gothic style) grew ever higher, stress fractures began to occur as the walls pushed outward. In response, the cathedral's architects built supports around the outside walls, and later additions continued the pattern. Many small statues were placed around the outside. These were crafted individually and served as supports for columns and water spouts. Among these are the famous gargoyles. These were originally colored, as was most of the exterior. The paint has worn off, but the grey stone was once covered with vivid colors. The cathedral was essentially complete by 1345.
