Rev. Terri Daniel - "A Mystical Understanding of Grief"

    in Spirituality

This month, Suzane welcomes back special guest, Rev. Terri Daniel.

Terri Daniel is an ordained interfaith minister, clinical chaplain and intuitive counselor who assists dying and grieving individuals to discover a more spiritually spacious understanding of death and beyond.

Her unique perspective on birth, death and the journey of the soul helps the dying and the living find meaning and healing through meditative and ritual practices that open a conduit to other dimensions. Her unique form of "radical mysticism" incorporates elements of Buddhism, Shamanism, ancient pagan practices, gnostic Christianity and other spiritual traditions to break down limiting beliefs about forgiveness, divine judgment and negative experience. Terri replaces these beliefs with an empowering vision of a co-created universe where there are no victims or perpetrators, only souls seeking expansion and awareness.

Terri is the author of three books on death and the afterlife: A Swan in Heaven: Conversations Between Two Worlds; Embracing Death: A New Look at Grief, Gratitude and God; and Turning the Corner on Grief Street: How Trauma and Loss Can Transform Us.

She is also the founder and president of the Afterlife Education Foundation and producer of the annual Afterlife Awareness Conference.

Elizabeth and Neil Carman - "Cosmic Cradle"

    in Spirituality

This month, Suzane welcomes special guests, Elizabeth and Neil Carman

Elizabeth Carman is a philosopher/psychologist, pre-birth researcher, author, and former social worker. After graduation from Michigan State University with a degree in psychology, Elizabeth did social service work with low income, minority families, and was a caseworker in adoption and foster care.

Elizabeth learned first-hand that traditional methods were ineffective for dealing with the deeper problems of life. Problems are like a room filled with darkness – and the solution is not looking for the source of the darkness, but bringing in the light. Then the darkness is no longer found. Ultimately, the answers lie inside of each of us.

Consequently, Elizabeth shifted gears from the field of social service to spiritual service. At this point today, she has spent more than forty-five years studying spiritual disciplines and researching consciousness, including participating in long-term meditation retreats in North America, Europe, and Asia. Elizabeth has taught meditation workshops and served on university faculty helping people work on the core of their existence and expand their consciousness as a way to leading a happier life.

Elizabeth’s journey into researching pre-birth experiences began in 1989 with a focus on how women can prepare for a more elevated experience on the way to motherhood, and, at the same time, give birth to happy, smiling babies right from the first breath. Through interviews with mothers, Elizabeth explored the link between higher consciousness and motherhood/childbirth.

In their newest book, Cosmic Cradle: Spiritual Dimensions of Life before Birth, Elizabeth Carman, PhD, together with her husband, Neil Carman, PhD, have synthesized forty-five years’ worth of research, historical accounts, and firsthand natural experiences of the pre-birth realm.

Linda Bender, DVM - "Animal Wisdom"

    in Spirituality

This month, Suzane welcomes special guest, Linda Bender, DVM.

A passionate, animal advocate and educator, Dr. Linda Bender's love of the natural world began in her childhood backyard. From orphaned deer to blue jays prematurely bumped from their nests, animals in distress somehow found a way to her loving arms. Her innate rapport with animals inspired her to earn a doctorate in veterinary medicine.

During the fourteen years she spent living in England, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, Linda’s veterinary work included the rescue, rehabilitation, and protection of wildlife, often in remote areas. Working with zoos in Southeast Asia, she treated animals rescued from the wildlife trafficking trade and helped reintroduce them back into their natural habitats. Among those given a second chance at life were clouded leopards, tigers, orangutans, and numerous species of rare psittacine and passerine birds.  Working in the field with rarely encountered wildlife, she helped to develop treatment protocols.

For over twenty-five years, Linda has practiced meditation and studied many of the world’s wisdom traditions, including shamanism. Learning the traditions and ancient wisdom of indigenous people enriched her understanding of the sacred connection between humans, animals, and nature. These experiences helped shape her environmental consciousness and deepened her commitment to spirituality, conservation and animal advocacy.

A dedicated animal advocate and pro-active, grass-roots champion of animals both domestic and wild, Linda recently completed her first book, Animal Wisdom: Learning from the Spiritual Lives of Animals released in June of 2014. Her new book illuminates the undeniable ability for animals to restore our ecological, emotional and spiritual balance. Linda currently lectures and facilitates Animal Wisdom workshops worldwide.
