    The Pets of North Minneapolis

    in Pets

On May 23, 2011, at least three tornados touched down in the Minneapolis area, causing the most damage to Minneapolis' Jordan neighborhood. The area suffered so much damage with downed trees, power lines and destroyed homes it has been declared a disaster area.
With us tonight are people who have stepped forward to help the pets and their people through this devastating experience.  Guests include Katie Paulson, who, seeing a need to help the pets and their people of the area, started the North Minneapolis Facebook page, Kim Carrier who founded The Pet Project and is overseeing the deliveries of food and supplies to the area,  and Kris Sattler, foster coordinator of Pennies4Paws, who is working to reunite lost pets with their families and Jeanette Wiedemeier Bower, Program Development Coordinator for the Minneapolis Animal Care & Control, known as MACC.
Even though this occurred a couple of weeks ago, help is still needed, and they will be sharing ways that you can help.

Today we are talking with Chris Sturdevant who recently returned from a trip in North Korea

Has you know North Korea is probably the most Secretive Country on the face of the planet and Chris had the chance to participate in an international Track meet, Visit the USS Pueblo and see other sights while there.  I heard about Chris via Armando F. Sanchez’s series on Cold War Spying and could not pass up the chance to have this show.

Below is a Channel 4 Milwaukee news interview and provides context on Chris’s visit to North Korea.

MILWAUKEE - It's one of the few places Americans supposedly cannot go, but Chris Sturdevant ran through the streets of North Korea earlier this month as a welcome tourist.

"The people of North Korea are very warm, they're very genuine, they are very welcoming," Sturdevant said of his brief trip to the capital city of Pyongyang.

The librarian and competitive runner ventured into the communist nation as part of a running tour group. Some ran in the Pyongyang marathon, Sturdevant raced the 10K, finishing second in his group.

North Florida Writer Live "Short Take": Imagine...........(5)

    in Lifestyle

IMAGINE THAT YOU BUY YOUR BEAUTIFUL HOUSE, YOU NEED TO MAKE SOME ADJUSTMENTS ON YOUR PROPERTY AND REFINEMENTS AND YOU TAKE CARE OF IT AND THINGS ARE NOW PERFECT.  BUT WAIT, DID YOU GET APPROVAL FOR YOUR ACTIONS? DOES IT MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN YOUR PROPERTY TAX ASSESSMENTS AND DID YOU PAY ANY PENALTIES AND FINES ASSESSED FOR NOT FOLLOWING LOCAL, STATE OR FEDERAL REGULATIONS?

SERIOUSLY, FOLKS, IF YOU THINK THAT A HOME IS A MAN'S (OR WOMAN'S) CASTLE, YOU MIGHT FIND YOURSELF IN FOR A HUGE SHOCK.  AND TODAY MORE AND MORE DIFFERENT AGENCIES AND OFFICES AT ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT ARE GETTING IN ON THE GRAVY TRAIN OF TAKING YOUR MONEY FOR HAVING THE PRIVILEGE TO OWN LAND IN THEIR JURISDICTION AND IT IS LIKELY TO ONLY GET WORSE IN THE DAYS AHEAD.

AND IF AND WHEN YOU PAY OFF YOUR MORTGAGE, JUST TRY NOT PAYING PROPERTY TAXES OR OTHER LOCAL ASSESSMENTS AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS?  YOU COULD VERY WELL FIND YOURSELF OUT ON THE STREET AND YOU REMAIN AT THE MERCY OF HUNGRY GOVERNMENT AGENCIES THAT ALWAYS WANT TO TAX MORE SO THEY CAN SPEND MORE.

JUST BE AWARE AND MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THE RULES BEFORE YOU GET YOURSELF IN A "PICKLE".

NORTH FLORIDA WRITER SHORT TAKE: IMAGINE......(4)

    in Lifestyle

IMAGINE A WORLD OF UNLIMITED RESOURCES AND MONEY WHERE WE COULD ALL DO AS MUCH AS WE WANT AND USE AS MUCH AS WE WANT WITHOUT EVERY HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT RUNNING OUT OF WHAT WE WANT.  I THINK WE'D PROBABLY HAVE TO BE IN HEAVEN TO HAVE SUCH AN OPPORTUNITY BUT, THEN AGAIN, WE OFTEN LIVE TODAY AS IF THINGS ARE UNLIMITED.

FOOD, SUPPLIES, GOVERNMENT SERVICES, CARS, HOMES, LAND AND EVERYTHING ELSE THAT MONEY CAN BUY TODAY IS A SUPPLY AND DEMAND SITUATION.  WHEN SUPPLY OUTPACES DEMAND, IT IS EASIER FOR ALL OF US TO GET WHAT WE WANT. WHEN DEMAND IS GREATER, THE OPPOSITE APPLIES, YET WE OFTEN LIVE AS IF THERE ARE NO LIMITS UNTIL WE HIT THE BRICK WALL: WE CAN'T AFFORD IT OR WE CAN'T GET IT.  AND THE WORST OF IT IS THAT BY THAT POINT WE ARE OUT OF THE ONE ITEM, MONEY, THAT IS NEEDED. THIS APPLIES TO INDIVIDUALS, BUSINESS AND GOVERNMENT.

TONIGHT WE'LL TALK A LITTLE ABOUT FACING REALITY: IN OUR HOMES, SCHOOLS, WORK, GOVERNMENT, CHURCH AND EVEN LEISURE.  LET'S TRY TO TAKE CARE OF OUR REAL NEEDS BEFORE WE GO AFTER THE WANTS.  IT WILL SAVE US A LOT OF GRIEF AND A LOT OF AGGRAVATION.  SEE YOU TONIGHT AT 9 (ET)
