State of the Young Black Man 2016

    in Motivation

It's our second annual State of the Young Black Man address with Entrepreneur Marquis Coates and Young Activist Caleb Jackson.

If your not a young man, this will be a most enlivening, informational, and engaging address for your little brother, nephew, and any parents of young men.

How do we show them that school is not a right now job, but the foundation of your future? How do we keep them in school?

Despite making up just 13% of the population, blacks commit around half of homicides in the United States. Where do we start? Turning criminals into students and upstanding citizens sounds like an impossible charge.. but it's possible; we have to believe it is, but how? How is it possible?

Also, how do we become better young black fathers, realistically and perceptionally?

Entrepreneur Marquis Coates and Young Activist Caleb Jackson will be rejoining us for a compelling panel discussion!

St. Marguerite Bourgeoys - Without Walls

    in Religion

Rebroadcast of the long running radio program, "The Ave Maria Hour", a presentation of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement. www.AtonementFriars.org

“God closes a door and then opens a window,” people sometimes say when dealing with their own disappointment or someone else’s. That was certainly true in Marguerite’s case. Children from European as well as Native American backgrounds in seventeenth-century Canada benefited from her great zeal and unshakable trust in God’s providence.

Marguerite at the age of 20 believed that she was called to religious life. Her applications to the Carmelites and Poor Clares were unsuccessful.

In 1654, the governor of the French settlement in Canada invited her to come to Canada and start a school in Ville-Marie.

Soon after starting a school, she realized her need for coworkers. Returning to Troyes, she recruited a friend, Catherine Crolo, and two other young women. In 1667 they added classes at their school for Indian children. A second trip to France three years later resulted in six more young women and a letter from King Louis XIV, authorizing the school.

Marguerite established a school for Indian girls in Montreal. At the age of 69, she walked from Montreal to Quebec in response to the bishop’s request to establish a community of her sisters in that city. By the time she died, she was referred to as the “Mother of the Colony.” Marguerite was canonized in 1982.

7 QUALITIES OF AN EAGLE BY DR. MYLES MONROE

    1. Eagles fly alone and at high altitudes. They don't fly with sparrows or other small birds. Keep good company.
    2. Eagles have a strong vision. They are able to see far. Have the ability to visualize and make prompt decisions.
    3. Eagles do not eat dead things. They always feed on fresh prey. Do not rely on your past success; keep looking for new frontiers to conquer.
    4. Eagles love the storm. The storm assures that the eagle will soar high. Face your challenges, knowing that these will make you emerge stronger and better than you were.
    5. Eagles test before they trust. Test the loyalty and commitment of your friends and leaders in your team.
    6. Eagles prepare for training. They remove the feathers and soft grass in the nest so that the young get uncomfortable in preparation for flying. Leave your comfort zone – there is no growth there.
    7. Eagles find a place of renewal. As they grow old, they go through a painful process of transformation. The eagle knocks its old beak on a rock to remove it. Once a new one grows it plucks its old feathers from its chests and wings and lives for another 30 years. Read books that will transform you. Watch things that will challenge and build you.
