Susanna Calkins & Maria Alexander on Next Steps with Jenny Milchman & ITW

    in Books

Next Steps host Jenny Milchman welcomes novelists Susanna Calkins & Maria Alexander to the studio.

Susanna Calkins has been intrigued by murder ever since she first stumbled across 17th century “murder ballads” when working on her PhD in history. The idea that people used to sing about murder and other strange tales became the premise of her historical mysteries featuring Lucy Campion. Set in 17th century plague-ridden England, her books have been finalists for the Sue Feder Historical Mystery Award (Macavity) and the Bruce Alexander Historical Mystery Award.

Maria Alexander's short stories have appeared in acclaimed publications and anthologies since 1999 alongside living legends such as David Morrell and Heather Graham. Her debut novel, Mr. Wicker, was released by Raw Dog Screaming Press in September 2014, and has been nominated for the 2014 Bram Stoker Award for Superior Achievement in a First Novel.

Hard Starboard Radio: The Gaslighting Of America

    in Politics Conservative

Bill Clinton is the greatest gaslighter in modern American politics.  Hillary Clinton is the worst, but she's relying on the old adage, "“A [republic] becomes the image of the virtues it rewards"; LGBT extremists plan to blanket the country with laws that, behind the fig leaf of ‘anti-discrimination,’ will give the state the power to police speech and behaviors; The growing danger of defining hate speech; The Boy Scouts prepare to surrender to the Gay Lobby; and anti-Christian persecution's next steps.
