I'm keeping the NFL SuperFan series party going, breaking down the 2014 New York Giants season with my college bud/old Spades partner/undercover Mack daddy/Civilization master Jason Hairston. Topics to be cover include:
What is going on with Eli Manning? Why is dude struggling?
Should the Giants look to draft Manning's replacement?
Is head coach Tom Coughlin on the hot seat?
Will the Giants compete in the NFC East?
What could help the Giants be competitive this season?
Turner Scott Motorsports has closed its number 30 truck team with Ron Hornaday, Jr will shut down effective immediately. Hornaday sits 4th overall in points this season, and now doesn't have a ride for Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. What this all means, the guys give their opinions on that.
Also, NASCAR has released the schedule for all three national touring series on Tuesday. Some interesting changes including the Southern 500 being moved back to Labor Day Weekend, and also, one of the most shocking moves we've seen, the July Daytona race being moved to Sunday. Why they made these moves, and what we think is going to happen in the future.
Also, we bring in this week in NASCAR History which we go back to the 2003 Southern 500, the last day, Texas Terry Shined. A big win for Terry Labonte, his final one. We'll discuss this race, and Terry's legacy on the sport.
Also, finally we'll talk about our Atlanta preview as the chase inches closer for 2014.
1990 Town Hall Meeting with Nelson Mandela of South Africa.
This meeting, held in New York and chaired by Ted Koppel of ABC Networks, formed part Nelson Mandela's first visit to the USA immediately following his release after 27 years in prison.
Much of the meeting focused on Nelson Mandela's advocating of sanctions against Apartheid South Africa, his support for the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) as well as his close friendship with Yasser Arafat (of Palestine) and Fidel Castro (of Cuba).
It is important to note that this meeting took place in 1990, long before the world embraced Nelson Mandela or the ANC, yet, even then, Mandela stood firm and resolute on his and the ANC's policies even though it could have "hurt" his and the ANC's "image", for example his support for the Palestinian and Cuban people.
People in Ferguson have contined to organize peaceful demonstrations, even after the funeral of slain unarmed teen Michael Brown, demanding justice. But what is justice? Even if officer Darren Wilson, who shot Michael Brown at least six times, is charged with murder, will that really change conditions of brutality and racial profiling that pervades so many American cities? What new laws should be introduced that could be enforced, and would make citizens feel safe from police abuse? How do we make a racially biased criminal justice system just and fair for all?
Did you know there are approximately 9 billion devices, assets, and ‘things’currently connected to a network? Over the next decade that number is expected to increase significantly with estimates ranging from 50 billion to nearly 1 trillion! It's about engine control units on industrial vehicles, track signaling equipment on railways, water pumps in power generation stations, and the list goes on and on. It's all about Enterprise Asset and Facility management (EAM, IWMS) solutions which will enable organizations to reduce operational and capital expenses, manage risk and compliance, and improve the performance of their infrastructure to meet business requirements.
Why does this matter? Opportunity and Risk. In a recent study by the McKinsey Global Institute, smarter infrastructure (a.k.a. the internet of things) has the potential to create an economic impact of $2.7 trillion to $6.2 trillion ANNUALLY by 2025. Conversely, the increasing complexity of assets and things raises operational risk, requires new skills across life cycle, and is impacting existing business processes and cultural norms.
The potential for innovation and optimization is nothing short of spectacular. That's what this podcast is all about. Pete Karns, a thought leader on Asset Management, will, explore the shifts in the market for asset and facility management, share best practices learned from 1,000's of companies from around the world and dive into the innovation potential of Cloud, Analytics, and Mobility.
