Never Give Up! Special Edition Recovery Now with Kim Justus

    in Health

My guest is author & survivor Steve Gregory. Life is different now- we have a second chance – make use of it. This is what he tried to do at first by writing his book www.thejourneytipsandtales.com. Remember no matter how tough the going gets – never give up.

When all odds were against him, he started his own business, and this gave him some sanity amidst all the confusion that was going on in his life at the time. Set your own goals and go after them. This will make all the difference. The business is a hobby now as I have not made any sales in years. It's not about that…it is about living well and making the most you can out of life.

There is also a website he has for ongoing therapy … www.afterabirehab.com  which talks about using the activities of daily living to improve slowly.

Host is standing Wednesday night host Kim Justus, and for now, the 2nd & 4th Saturday! My show Recovery Now is a gathering place for anyone seeking recovery from the challenges of life on life's terms. I introduce topics, and guests share their experience, strength and hope. We discuss useful tools that have helped us lighten the load, of our journey through recovery.

More will be revealed! This is a "we" recovery program, because it is in the "we," that we discover the new "me."

We focus on the four A's of Recovery...Awareness, Acceptance, Action and Adaptation. This is a place for survivor's striving to become thrivers.  :)

Most nights we have a featured guest in the front half, where callers are invited to comment. The second part of the show is Open Mic and some great Indy Music, sure to inspire.

  • Film NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER GIVE IN with Sudanese Survivor, Emmanuel Jal

    in Education

The full-length documentary, NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER GIVE is based on the life of Emmanuel Jal. In the early 1980s, at the age of seven, Jal was swept into Sudan’s civil war, becoming one of 10,000 child soldiers conscripted on both sides of the two decades’ long conflict. The film has been touring the film festival circuit. It premiered at the Berlinale festival  and won the Cadillac audience choice award at the Tribeca film festival.

Join The Gist of Freedom with host Roy Paul and Guest host, Dr. Sidney Davis www.BlackHistoryblog.com

Emmanuel was adopted by the now legendary British aid worker Emma McCune;  Shortly after she adopted Jal, McCune died in a suspicious car crash, leaving Emmanuel “orphaned” once again. Jal rises from ruthless child soldier to refugee to rap star. He finds his own redemption and life mission through a message of peace that represents one of the 21st centuries’ most inspiring and hopeful journeys, and a metaphor for the broader African predicament.

Emmanuel’s journey is, in many ways, just beginning. His dream of Gua, peace, in Sudan, and prosperity in Africa, is threatened by corrupt leaders, genocidal warlords, and Western indifference. Hopefully, Emmanuel’s peace – his quest to make the world a better place through his music, activism and youth education – will prove to be far more significant than Emmanuel’s former war.

SwCA Episode 140: How do I know when to Never Give Up! versus when to Let it Go?

    in Business

    SITE: http://www.courtneyanderson.com/swca-episode-140-help-situation-spotlight-series-how-do-i-know-when-to-never-give-up-versus-when-to-let-it-go.html

SHOW NOTES:  In our HELP! SITUATION SPOTLIGHT™ series, we shine the light on challenges that community members have shared. This episode is, "How do I know when to 'Never Give Up!' versus when to 'Let it Go.'?"

The “answer” to this question is to “Never Give Up” when positive outcomes are occurring the majority of the time (i.e., “it is working”) and to “Let It Go” when negative outcomes are occurring the majority of the time (i.e., “it is not working”).

How do you figure this formula (if positive outcomes are occurring the majority of the time or negative ones are instead) out? You must make a written inventory. Do not trust a mental list as you are going to be heavily influenced by what you have as a predetermined result. For example, if you are trying to determine if you should never give up your current job, if you are frightened of change you will potentially skew your inventory to favor a majority of positive of outcomes. Committing the inventory of outcomes to writing will help (but not 100% prevent) “wishful thinking.”

Making decisions is difficult. If it was easy there would be no need for help or advice and everyone would be content and happy in their lives. I do want to remind you to include how you feel (whether it is happy, sad, excited, anxious, etc.) in your written inventory as that individual emotional ROI is extremely important.

You have to make a new inventory on a schedule (e.g., every six months) to ensure that you are continuing to make the choices that will result in the best outcomes. So, let’s get started today on answering what you should do in your life with this episode! Join me as we discuss when to “Never Give Up” and when to &ldquo
