Andre Berto Lands The Perfect Uppercut Ultimately Stopping Victor Ortiz

    in Sports

On today’s show, the panel discusses all of the fights from this past weekend, led by the back-and-forth action in Carson, California (StubHub Center) where Andre Berto and Victor Ortiz traded punches and knockdowns in their four round classic.

Berto was able to pull off the win, and in grand fashion, but what does this mean for the state of the young and talented welterweight division? Is Berto a major player? Is Ortiz’s career as a welterweight prizefighter over? We will answer all of these questions as we speak of the Ortiz-Berto undercard which showcased a number of terrific fights.

We will also discuss the ShowTime card with Badou Jack taking on Lucian Bute and James DeGale squaring off against Rogelio Medina. After breaking down the card’s action, we will present some scenarios for the remainder of the tournament.

Friday night’s action went as planned as the Dirrell brothers both won, but the panel will breakdown the meaning of the card and what is likely to come of it.

Overseas action led by Hughie Fury and Fred Kassi.

With the time remaining, we will bring you some news and notes from the world of boxing and perhaps give a small taste of what is to come with next week’s Canelo-Khan PPV.

And, of course, we will be taking live calls on air from you the voice of the people. From Alumni to first-time callers, we encourage everyone to call 646-478-3068 to voice your opinion. And remember you can express your opinion in writing by becoming part of the team and writing for the site- contact Mario Mungia or Nestor Gibbs at Theboxingvoice@yahoo.com. • Gennady Golovkin Destroys Wade By Vicious 2nd Rd KO Tells Canelo Give Me My Belt

    in Sports

Unified middleweight titleholder Gennady Golovkin was the overwhelming favorite against virtual unknown mandatory challenger Dominic Wade, and Golovkin nullified any chance of an upset, overpowering his opponent in an absolutely devastating performance.

Golovkin, 34, knocked down Wade three times in a crushing, second-round knockout victory before a raucous, pro-GGG, sellout crowd of 16,353 on Saturday night at The Forum. And then GGG called once again for the fight the world wants to see: a showdown with middleweight world champion Canelo Alvarez.

"I feel great. I'm here now, and I'm here to stay. I'm not going anywhere. Give me my belt, give me my belt! Let's fight," said Golovkin, directing his comments toward Alvarez.

Errol "The Truth" Spence Jr. Does What Not Even Manny Pacquiao Could Do

    in Sports

Undefeated rising welterweight star Errol "The Truth" Spence Jr. (20-0, 17 KOs) went emphatically from prospect to contender with a fifth-round stoppage of former world champion Chris Algieri (21-3, 8 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on NBC Saturday night from Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

"It meant a lot to get the stoppage," said Spence Jr. "I did something Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan couldn't do. That shows where I'm at in the welterweight division."

Spence Jr. was superior in every regard as he took control of the fight from the beginning with world-class bodywork and blazing speed. Algieri was expected to be a major step-up for the 2012 U.S. Olympian, but was unable to bother his opponent despite landing 31 percent of his punches to Spence Jr.'s 30 percent per CompuBox stats.

Pacquiao vs Bradley Manny's Back!, Martin vs Joshua Hype Is Real? Reviews

    in Sports

Manny Pacquiao finished his rivalry with Timothy Bradley with the most convincing win of the three bouts. This time, Pacquiao was able to put Bradley on the canvas multiple times throughout the fight and severely hurt the California-born fighter, which is in contrast to his effort in the first two fights.

Anthony Joshua gave fans at the O2 Arena in Greenwich, London, United Kingdom a big time show when he tore through American champion Charles Martin. Joshua picked up the IBF title in the process of stopping Martin in just two rounds of their 12 round championship fight.

This was a big time performance after Joshua built up hype around the fight, selling out the arena in less than a day.

Adrien Broner Calls Out Floyd Mayweather...Review

    in Sports

Tonight, in a special addition “on demand” show, Thaboxingvoice panel of hosts focus on the ongoing Mayweather-Broner saga. Following Adrien Broner’s 9th round TKO over Ashley Theophane on SPIKE TV last night, the Ohio native and former junior welterweight champion called out Floyd Mayweather Jr.

It was a bit expected after weeks of buildup, but it wasn’t any less surprising to hear Broner actually call for a fight with the man he once referred to as “big bro.”

You will hear the hosts discuss Broner’s actual call out of Mayweather in the post-fight interview and whether or not it was legitimate enough to be taken serious. Also, we will discuss Mayweather’s quick and expected response given in the form of yet another FightHype interview released earlier today.

Today’s special show is brought to you by Joey Cuevas @JCuevas2333

Floyd Mayweather Jr., vs. Adrien Broner vs. Ashley Theophane Preview

    in Sports

On today’s show, Thaboxingvoice panel of hosts discuss this weekend’s fights which features the always controversial Adrien Broner defending his WBA junior welterweight title against Ashley Theophane on Spike TV this Friday. Broner will defend his title amidst heavy legal issues in his hometown and with word coming in that Broner will turn himself into authorities following the fight, the question is will it affect his performance? Broner has already come in overweight at today’s weigh in, so the evidence is stacking up.

Nestor Gibbs, TBV’s resident instigator, will undoubtedly focus on Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s recent interview with Fighthype.com and all the inflammatory comments made as the fight draws near and “Money May” makes his allegiances to his fighter, Theophane.

Will Joe Habeeb have any last minute advice for betters? Stay tuned.

Andre Ward Dismantles Barrera...Is He Ready for Kovalev?

    in Sports

Andre Ward outpointed Sullivan Barrera over the course of twelve rounds and flashed a little power along the way at the Oracle Arena on Saturday night.

Ward started slowly but picked up the pace near the end of the second round when he landed a solid left hand that got Barrera’s attention. He carried that momentum with him into the third round when he floored Barrera with a huge left hook.

Barrera beat the count and quickly recuperated, but a pattern soon developed that saw Ward comfortably controlling the distance while frustrating Barrera with head movement and efficient defense. Barrera threw an impressive volume of punches but didn’t land much of anything except an occasional shot here and there.
