In BATES MOTEL, the PSYCHO prequel series on A&E (Mondays at 10pE/P), the astonishingly flexible NESTOR CARBONELL plays Sheriff Alex Romero, riding herd over White Pine Bay, the unhinged drama's fictional setting.
Romero is the "moral" center of the town, although morality is relative in this upscale human sewer. Imposing and discerning, Romero got involved in Norma Bates' life after an unfortunate incident at the motel early in season 1. "I am the last person who you want on your bad side, Mrs. Bates," he intoned with stoney seriousness.
This season he has become - perhaps against his better judgment - even more involved with the Bates, residing at the motel after his house was torched by a reckless local drug kingpin, and he has become friendly and uneasily familiar with Norma.
Nestor Carbonell was born in New York City and variously raised in Mexico, Venezuela, Florida, Connecticut, the Bahamas, and London. He graduated from Harvard University with a degree in English, where a first-year drama course led to his interest in performing.
Nestor is most often recognized for his integral role in the acclaimed series LOST as the iconic Richard Alpert. This role, as well as his turn as Mayor Anthony Garcia in Christopher Nolan's THE DARK KNIGHT series has shown Nestor's versatility, range, and complexity as an actor.
His additional TV credits include RINGER, CANE, HOUSE, SCRUBS, MONK, and SUDDENLY SUSAN, for which he earned two ALMA Awards for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series. Nestor currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife, actress Shannon Kenny, and their two sons.
Aubrey Logan is an award-winning artist whose vocals range from deep and electric, to delicate and vulnerable. She breaks genre barriers by combining jazz vocals with R&B, neo-soul, pop and a touch of rock. Winner of the 2009 Audience’s Choice and Jury’s First Place Awards at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland she rocks audiences in two continents. A native of Seattle, Washington, Aubrey remains close to her Pacific Northwestern roots although she currently lives and records in Los Angele and will join us Friday.
We talk to Alex Nester, fresh off of her concert Thursday night in Santa Monica's storied The Basement on Main. Nester brings back the art of music-making in original songs chronicling her trials and letdowns with the state of music business today and her bout with cancer as a teenager. A life of trial and triumph has shaped her unique sound filled with messages of love, faith, positivity, and healing while channeling the retro soul artists of the 60’s and 70’s. Her resume includes 12 albums, countless jingles, and over 25 theatrical productions, as well as working with established musicians such as Carlos Santana, Stevie Wonder, The Four Tops, The Fifth Dimension, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. (This is a classic conversation, pre-recorded in August).

In an effort to build consensus across the Global African Diaspora around strategies for cooperating and coordinating, CFA collaborates with African Views to facilitate a conference call of Diaspora leaders in the Western Hemisphere, as part of the 2014 Ronald H. Brown African Affairs Series. While time, distance and travel resources have proven to be significant obstacles in the coordination of Diaspora in support of Africa, this effort can bridge the gap, by holding the first of several conference calls of Diaspora leaders around the globe to open and strengthen dialogue.
Synopsis of intent:
To formalize the platform where experts and professionals in Africa and Diaspora can collaborate with their immense intellect, expertise, skills, ideas and other resources necessary to develop and design the optimal solutions for bridging and amplifying the economic and scientific gaps between Africa and the rest of the world.
To form alliance of strength and interest between the Diaspora and Africa, as well as to cultivate a collaborative global communication platform for reliable and well guided intelligence committees that will liaise directly with institutional partners, essential state holders and sovereign authorities on African development issues.
