Ricki Stevenson has served as creative thinker, lead guide and CEO of Black Paris Tours since its inception in 1998. Stevenson, a native of Oakland, California, is a former New York and Bay Area TV/Radio news anchor/reporter and talk show host.  Ricki holds the distinction of having worked as a United Nations radio correspondent and as one of the first Black international travel reporters. She holds a master's degree in education and history from Stanford University, with an emphasis on African and African American history. Stevenson says her dream of living in Paris began when her Mother, a former dancer, took her to see Josephine Baker perform when she was three years old.  Over the years, her dream was fueled by interviews with some of the famous who fled racism in the US to live or spend time in Paris: Ray Charles, Earth Kitt, artist Lois Mailou Jones and choreographer, Geoffrey Holder. The idea for Black Paris Tours grew out of that dream and her six years work as an international travel reporter.

Activist, Organizations and Non-Profits are Collaborating Efforts for Successes

    in Politics Progressive

A new and better America is within each American. Not everyone wants or feel there is a need for a new and better America. We have already everything needed for a new and better America. Usually what we seek has missing elements and we have to wait for money or opportunity. With the massive jobless people today we have people power. With soaring stock markets, thanks to consumers, businesses have funds to donate. With the education and skill level of Americans today, we can tackle any series of ideas with success. With all that we have, our only need is within each of us. Desire. With a desire for a new and better America, we can see it become reality. Call on Politicians, Activist, Organizations, Non-profits and individuals to collaborate efforts for America's successes. Together and only together can all America will  bask in full employment, raised wages and keep ACA.

Working with Seneca Family of Agencies, a large non-profit providing a variety of mental health services to youth and their families, in various treatment settings in Northern California, he was able to observe repeatedly the overuse of medications with traumatized youth who had behavior problems.  He spent much more time tapering youth off of medications than he did prescribing them.

He is extremely pleased that the Mercury News' Series on "Medicating Our Youth" is attracting a lot of attention to a long-neglected population.

Choctaw Tribal Council: election reform action

    in Culture

Much has been done and said about Batton's election reform ask force and their recommendations. Last month Batton took the reforms to the council, and word is that the people will be disappointed once again. However, let's see what happens Saturday at the councl house in Tushkahoma, and we'll have guests to share with you their own thoughts and opinions.

It is an election year for Chief and six council members, and they will be expecting the people to vote for them once again. In the years past, voter turnout has been dismal, and with good reason! The general attitude is one of disempowerment, one feels it is useless to try and change anything even by voting. So my question is when are you going to stand up and exercise your power, your voice and put committed actions to those words. It does appear that Batton will be the next Chief simply because there is not enough time to change the election procedures and rules, unless we begin to become involved the various grassroot groups that have emerged, such as, Choctaws Rising and Chahta Veterans for Chahta Civil Rights: McAlester Reunion and Potluck. By the time the elections are over, there may be a few more, but the true test will be those who have learned from this process and begin planning for the next election two years away when another six council seats are up.

Join us as we discuss the recent happenings and what is next. Future meetings have been planned for McAlester and Talihina so let us know if you would like for us to come! Share this post with other Chahta's and listen in on Sunday!
